Let me say thank you for getting the CC (Closed Captioning, AKA Subtitles) professionally done. I lost a little bit of my hearing in the Marine Corps. Sometimes when somebody whispers , says something to quickly or in an accent, i can't make out what they are saying, no matter how much i turn up the volume. And sometimes that algorithm that youtube uses comes out with some funky stuff, lol. Once again, thank you
MetalJesus thanks for going through the extra effort of adding Closed Captioning to your videos. For everyone with different hearing issues this is a huge deal. Also thanks for all the years of great videos.
Yes, but how good of a carpenter was he? Got all these stories about his life and accomplishments that have been told and published for hundreds of years, but where's the story about that amazing wall cabinet he installed in Mary's bedroom? No "Jesus makes the most beautiful end tables" paragraph hidden away in anything that I've read. I've always taken it as meaning that he was actually a pretty crappy carpenter that like, put up shelves at awkward angles so stuff fell off, or tables with crooked legs. He'd apply for jobs to help build houses and the foreman would say, "Nah, we're kinda fully staffed right now, sorry. Thanks for that trick with the water though, guys appreciated it."
I’d recommend some blackout blinds or curtains for the windows, I have blackout curtains in my game room and they let very little light into the room even on a bright sunny day
I have become a huge PS2 collector because of your videos. I have found so many hidden gems and now at 12:47 in the video I need to screenshot to find many more :)
Regarding your IKEA shelves, this is why I got the Billy bookcase for my games, because the shelving allows you to customize, and you can purchase extra shelves to fit them all in one place, rather than the giant holes seen in some set shelves like yours. But at the end of the day, it’s all up to you.
A random thing about your shelving, I have limited shelving space myself, so the shorter CD jewels and handheld games are best double stacked. a little trick I learned was to put a couple pieces of cardboard that span the entire shelf width but are an inch or so less deep than the games. This is helpful for easily being able to get a finger in and pull out games on the bottom and prevents the games on the top from dropping into the bottom when you pull out the game below it. Another trick I used for a while then abandoned was using cardboard spacers to hold up the cardboard separating the rows. this makes it even easier to slide out the bottom row of games because they aren't taking any of the weight from the row above it.
Was just about to comment on getting some static uv-filter film but then you mentioned it yourself. That will def help protecting cases/colors from fading out in the long run. Cheers!
I got my stands about a year ago after I saw your video about Rose colored gaming. I got the black stands. They look great in my collection. Thanks MJR!
Hey MetalJesusRocks - I used to store my games, DVDs, and Blur-rays in those Ikea shelves. As a suggestion, build a riser so that you can have two rows. The riser will elevate the second row of games and allow you to place another row in front of it. This also allows you to fit more games on 1 shelf than you currently have on it. Hope that helps. :)
You can buy rolls of that film to put on windows. They can also block people from seeing inside at a distance. It works like a mirror on the outside and a regular window on the inside. My dad bought a few rolls and they work great for keeping uv light out of the house and we live in AZ so it’s pretty good.
....that footage of Wave Race 64 running on the HDTV has ***REALLY*** got me wanting to break out my N64 for a nostalgia playthrough.... might have to make that happen
If you ever want to step up the shelving without spending a fortune, consider IKEA "Billy" bookcases. They are reasonably cheap and fully adjustable. In addition, you can get glass shelves and glass fronted doors. Adam Savage uses these for his own collection, and uses led strips on the inside of the doors for a great visual effect. It also really cuts down on the dust.
I'm so happy for your success metal jesus, I've seen your channel grow from when I started following your channel back in 2014. You deserve this epic gaming lounge after your last one got destroyed with the flooding and all that crap that happened which damaged alot of your stuff good to see you've recovered it. Curious to hear your band's music because I'm a huge hard rock/heavy metal fan as well as being a hardcore gamer haha. Anyway keep up the good work and content I love it man.
Biography Posted Oval is a Seattle, Washington band starring Jason Lindsey (Guitar, Vocals, Programming and Skin Flute), Rebecca Hartsook (Drums, Vocals, Attitude) and Beau Hitt (Bass, Vocals, Thunder). Three friends who original met at Sierra Online back in the mid 1990's, they decided to make widely varying styles of music and keep the songs fun and interesting. Influences range from Slayer, Ween, Neil Diamond, Stereolab, Dead Can Dance and your mom. found this online lol
An option to avoid sunlight damage would be to buy blackout curtains. I live in Alaska where in the summer it's light out still at 10pm. They are life savers for sleeping as well as gaming.
Stellar content as always, MJR. You inspire me to keep collecting despite burnout and finances. I would like to ask one question. In videos like these, where there's a huge variety of games shown across all eras, would you be willing to include a list of featured games/footage sources in the future? This would make questions like 'what game is at 16:07' appear less frequently. And yes I really do want to know the answer to that question. Keep up that amazing work. I could listen to you talk about your past work experience for hours since it's just so eclectic and cool.
Thanks for adding the link to get the stands for portables and consoles! I've often wondered where you could get stands for them and you answered my question. :)
Great video! Love the new setup. Another thing to consider regarding LED lights: lumens, and whether the lights will be your primary light source for the room. Hue is capable of that while the cheaper LED lights are not.
For your game collection these are what i've used go to The Video Shopper and look under FIXTURES & DISPLAYS > Wood and Other Slat Displays > "Hq" Custom Wall Unit (Starter) these are what blockbuster used on the walls of their stores, they are awesome and relatively affordably priced... they are great and will hold up to putting cases "end out" and being full... they also have solid backs and are great for covering windows and keeping UV out...
Dude! I am a metal head!! I gotta listen to your music!! I didn't know you made an album! Makes you even more awesome!!! ohhh your lights are hypnotic...I had to try not to space out and piss myself ! I could just chill with a beer let the colors make me lose control of my bodily functions. Very cool dude!!! Thanks for sharing!!
The NES cartridge is such a fun idea! It’s a great new game room (or should I say game floor 😉) you have in your new house. Looks like an awesome place to hang out!
Also with customized shelves you don't have to hire a carpenter, you would set up the shelves to the height you want and you can get them through Ikia as well.
When it comes to shelving for games I usually use IKEA's Billy shelves because the multiple notches pretty much line up to make the shelves roughly the game box height
I've had does shelves for a little over a year now. The cross section are particle board, but the sides are actually, honeycombed paper filling between slim fiberboard. (according to Ikea) aka cardboard. I have heavier books on mine and no warping or anything elf going on. Knock on wood or honeycomb paper filing. ;)
I'm so damn jealous lol. A year and a half until I'm out of the Army, and then moving to a much larger house in Texas! Can't wait to have my own gaming room. Yours is awesome!
You and your crew are my idols! Kelsey is my favorite because she did what im striving to do, open a vintage game store. Much love for all you guys teach me
Where I live (SE QLD Australia) my house was getting really hot from sun and heat getting through the Windows. Also the curtains were getting really damaged by the UV. We tinted the Windows and that made a HUGE difference in the temperature and it stopped pretty much all UV light getting in and damaging the curtains. Also getting the whole house done by a professional wasn't too expensive (by memory it was about AU $1500 and it's a 3br with rumpus house)
I might start collecting too by the time im 25 yo,im currently almost 18 nd i love every type of game. Lately i been trying older games and it surprised me how cool they are. I grew up to PS1,Nintendo (SNES and GB) and PS2,but mostly PS2
7:20 There is a cart from RetroUSB that has a similar LCD screen in it, except that it's a real NES cart with several of their 8-BIT XMAS homebrew games playable. When you select the game the label will change to the correct artwork. In addition to that it also has super bright LED Christmas lights inside the cart. It's really very cool!
Awesome game room!!! Such a tremendous improvement over the old room. So well organized and tastefully arranged. Really like it, especially the console in front of the fireplace that looks like it was made for the console. Fantastic overall, congrats! Care to share what city you're in now?
Hey MJR, I would get a darkening film that also reduces UV light as well, for the windows! Then while writing this you say that many have already said that. But, yeah, that’s the best thing to do for the sun damage issue to deal with, in my opinion.
Hey MJ I highly recommend using something to diffuse the led strings. You can use something like the thin foam sheets used for packaging. Not the styrofoam stuff, it's spongy.
That's a neat game room. I would probably forgo the rope lights but, hey, whatever floats your boat. So can you program the NES label viewer to only show the titles in your library? I am very much in favor of having custom shelving sized to each particular type of media. But I also wouldn't pay someone else to do it. One way of keeping your items safe from UV damage is to simply put doors with polycarbonate windows over your shelving. Polycarbonate is very good at blocking UV.
I do really love this room....I would just never come out lol. I've watched loads of game room tours but I like yours because it's just the right size and theres 3 rooms and a bar!!! 🤘😎
For the DVD cased games, I would have used more Billy bookcases since you can by extra shelves. Only downside is that they are pretty deep so at single height would make them hard to see.
A *LOT* of (UV) light comes in despite the blinds, so you should really get the UV films for all the windows...especially those where the back of the shelves is open and facing the windows.
the window "tint" also really helps with your electric bill...I live right outside New Orleans and we get 100 degree summer days with 100% humidity so the A/C is basically on full blast for 3 months straight...the first summer without the tint the electric bill was close to $250 a month....after the tint, running the A/C the same amount, the bill went down by as much as $20...now, that may not seem like much but over a ten year period I've saved over 2 grand....on a product that will cost you a $100 bucks for the whole house that is a great deal...fair warning though...it's not the easiest material to work with and is definitely a two person job, preferably two very patient people as it takes a few windows to really get it down...can find it at Home Depot, Lowe's or online I'm sure....I just recently re-did mine after ten years so I'm guessing that's about what you can expect as well if you decide to try it out...
If you are still using the CRT in your GameCube display I would recommend using s video cables. They are cheaper than RGB or component and are still and upgrade over normal composite cables.
If you buy smart LED strips/lights and they use the same protocol as Philips Hue (Zigbee) you should be able to reset the lights and add them to your Hue bridge. From there you can control them as well with the Hue app. I use the IKEA Tradfri lights for example. Not sure if they sell those in the US...
Hey Metal Jesus!!.... Can you do a 2020 guide to the best devices for hooking up ALL the old consoles to a hd tv please?.... It's so confusing trying to figure out the best option for each console....
So I’ve been watching your channel for a while now and I guess I’ve always wondered, with the amount of games you have, if you want to play something specific at any given time, do you have a process for finding that game? You are very organized with everything you do, so how does that “simple” task work?
