We all know that the franchise supposedly ended at fnaf 4. But because of popularity, Scott had to continue it, with books and new games. I believe that everything proven is actually true. Fnaf 1-4 actually did exist and there were crying child, cassidy, etc. Everything actually happened. However, due to Scott's selling the franchise, the new owners wanted to reboot the franchise by adding their own. This means that if they continue with the fnaf 1-4 lore, it would be a problem. Heck, the locked box hasn't even been confirmed. It was only presumed that the lock box contains a child's body but scott threw the idea because it's too dark. TLDR: The lore changed. Everything was canon and true for fnaf 1-4. But with the new owners wanted to stamp their own identity to the franchise, they wanted to stop using the original lore and games making it not canon. It depends on your perspective. Are you going to be the old fnaf theorist using the old lores but the evidences stops at fnaf VR or are you going to be the new theorist throwing up all the canons until fnaf 4?
This feels like my parents sitting me down and telling me the Easter bunny doesn’t exist. Just as confusing and devastating. Really enjoyed the theory!
"What if I told you everything I thought we knew about fnaf was a lie?" You know what, that's the most coherent thing to come out of this series in a while.
I'm listening to these videos while at work, currently there's 70 in the playlist I'm using. The lore is wild and it's fun to see what changes from theory to theory 😂
I think the story of Steve, apart from the illusion disks, is actually more of story about Scott Cawthon and how he felt when he made the games as it got more successful, rather than anything that has merit over the story of the first 4 games. Him having nightmares can be traced back to Scott having a nightmare about Bonnie when making the first game, as well as the success of the franchise coming to haunt him because he never expected it to be so successful. Steve recalling rumors of murders and paranormal activity can be a description of Scott Cawthon coming up with ideas and doing research into his inspirations for the games.

New theory: Steve, the developer whose brain is turning to mush, is an analogy for Matpat, who over the years has been gradually losing his mind over the fnaf lore
"I refuse to live in a world where shamrock freddie and chocolate bonnie are canon" must've been a top tier regrettable line. I love to see this story unravel.
I have something to add that probably means nothing but remember the interview with Scott himself on Dawko’s channel? Well in the interview near the start Dawko says “with.. Fred bear and..” then Scott replies “yea, they thought Golden Freddy, yea.” If Golden Freddy never existed than what actually happened at Fazbear’s Family Diner? What about Fredbear and the bite of 83? I’m sorry. I just had an idea about it. 😅
New theory: the story from the book described in the video is actually about MatPat, being gaslit by Scott into crazier and crazier theories until he himself starts questioning what is real anymore and then is presented with a choice between moving on into the real world or diving back into the FNaF illusion that will stab him in the back
My sister once told me that FNAFs story was so increasingly well written and convoluted. Honestly, I think it’s just been re written so many times without changes to the story in previous games that every single on is just its own standalone story at this point.
I like to think Scott wakes up every morning and goes to sit down at the kitchen table coffee in one hand, tablet in the other and he just watches Matpat try and explain the newest FNAF lore as he chuckles to himself and takes notes about what not to do to or what to retcon just to continue f**king with Mat and every other theorist.
At this point i don't know who is more insane, MatPat for litteraly doing this whole series, or me for watching every single episode for almost a decade
This is the most bonkers lore because the core idea has changed at least 3 times now and I applaud Matt for not just turning the mic on and screaming into it for 20 minutes
yes, i still KNOW that the first four games are the intended lore, the dream theory is the real lore, and matpat was right, but scott received backlash and from there was just holes in the lore, aliens, spirits that can hack computers and so on
This series' lore is so tangled and convoluted with so many different plotlines and ideas thrown across nearly every available medium it's a miracle you've gotten this far with it.
legit the opposite of one piece: One pretty linear story in 1 or 2 mediums with consistent and planned out lore vs multiple non linear stories in 50 mediums with random and on the spot lore.
@@ProjektTaku not sure if you read manga but the latest one piece chapter was a mind blower. Some big lore revealed that really makes you question the OP world
Matpat's career covering Fnaf is just one man's descent into insanity. It's like the textbook lovecraftian horror story trope, a curios man looking into something that he shouldn't have looked into.
When you trust in God and cast your cares (worries, anxiety, depression, suicidal thoughts) upon him, they will be NO MORE! Know that there is power in the name Jesus Christ! His name casts out demons and heals! The world is wicked, evil, and of the devil. I too, was a wicked sinner of the world before I opened my heart to God. I am living proof of God's work and fruitfulness! He is an active God who hears the prayers of his! God's children are set apart (holy) and righteous. The devil is a liar that comes to steal, to kill, and to destroy; that includes your relationship with God! Open your heart to God, repent of your sins (he will forgive you), and let him direct your path. Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands and purify your heart, lest you walk with the devil and follow him to hell.
I'm curious to know if Matt actually enjoyed all the books or not, it sounds like his frustration comes from the fact that it's FNAF and that reading them all was work for him. Having read some fazbear frights I really liked a lot of them, I wonder which ones are his favorites.
no this is completey disproven… fnaf 4 is very real and it says that. kinda a big slip up on matpats part here (Or i misread something and am in denial :P)
I remember playing fnaf and watching these videos throughout the franchise, through middle and highschool, and now into college. If matpat is crazy for making them this long, we're all crazy for watching all of them this long
Buddy I hear you I've had the exact same trajectory from secondary school to junior college to university and if MatPat's insane we're going down with him
You see, i understood everything MatPat said, but the more i listened the more i realized hearing this without prior knowledge of literally everything in FNAF really does make him sound like a crazy person.
@@celestemasis8532 fr, it feels like I'm going crazy and will see golden Freddy in my room in next few days. It happens to me once when I was a child, so circle of life
14:12 I love how Scott himself is so confused about all the lore that his solution is to literally make it canon that he is a rogue developer who made all the first games stuff up so it can be thrown out the window.
Okay, here's a thought: "Golden" Freddy, is Fredbear, but with faded fur. It could have started brown, then faded to that golden-ish color. It's why (or perhaps part of the reason why) his hat and bow tie are sometimes purple: the dye they used for his props is fading. Funnily enough, this would explain why they don't wash the Gen 2 animatronics: if whatever cleaner they used faded the fur enough to turn it a whole separate color, they might want to clean them as little as possible. Plus William might learn from his mistakes trying to clean up evidence...
I'm convinced that Scott since day one only sprinkles tidbits of lore into FNAF and everytime Matpat makes a theory about it, he uses a Coinflip to determine whether he should take Matpat's Word into canon or completely rewrite the story just to spite him. From the looks of things, it seems that Scott landed on heads a little too much during the course of those 60 FNAF Videos.
WAIT YOU JUST GAVE ME AN IDEA WHAT IS WHAT'S IN THE BOX IS ACTUALLY SOME SORT OF CALL TO REALITY STEVE SET FOR HIMSELF WHILE MAKING THE GAME AND HIS BRAIN WAS TURNING TO MUSH?
At this point i don't know who is more insane, MatPat for litteraly doing this whole series, or me for watching every single episode for almost a decade ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ZIOH4t2LfIc.html
lmao... thinking of mats old theory that made fnaf look like a dream. it seems like the perfect revenge! because he unintentionally forced scott to continue the game.
FNAF has such a strong chokehold on me since the first game that and bendy and the ink machine has a stronger chokehold I'm like the lore I need it all
Something to consider is the first fnaf Golden Freddy was just called “Yellow Bear” in the game files. We only call him Golden Freddy because of Markiplier.
@@romancat-holic7640 I’m just saying that Golden Freddy is his official name now. I also don’t see how GFs name originally being Yellow Bear is relevant
Am i the only one who thinks that matpat probably even DREAMS about fnaf theorys and then after he wakes he goes ,,BUT HEY THATS JUST A THEORY , A GAME THEORY,,
I can just imagine MatPat getting a therapist and the therapist literally has to get their own therapist because Mat keeps spending hours coming up with FNAF theories that turn people's brains into mush.
And then that therapist getting their own therapist, and that therapist getting their own therapist, and then it just becomes a never ending cycle of insanity. Perhaps it's not the Glitchtrap virus but the MatPat virus. :)
Honestly, I don‘t even care if he‘s right or wrong on these FNAF-theories anymore. I just love how much effort he always puts into them, and never stop coming back.
I have to say I actually really appreciate MatPat putting out a theory that he doesn’t necessarily believe or even like just because he wants to add to the conversation.
@@Moonvive I think it's more about the fact that MatPat is acknowledging that he doesn't know how to feel about this one because of what it means for his past videos on the series, but still presents it so that all of the facts and possibilities can be laid out. MatPat could easily just write the book off, but establishing the lore is more important to him than being right about it all.
As much as I love FNAF lore, part of me is like "maybe we're giving Scott too much credit" while the other part is like "man, i am impressed". I love this challenge, so much fun.
This doesn't make sense though. We know it's cannon that William Afton ends up in the Springtrap suit, but how does that happen if FNAF 3 never happened?
when fnaf is fr actually completely done , you should do like a 2-3 hour long video of explaining the timeline in its entirety. you could make it a charity stream!
When FNAF first came out I never expected the lore to run this deep and this insane, when I saw the first Game Theory on it I was like "Damn you gotta dig REAL deep to find lore in this game, cant be that deep, right? boi was I wrong
Who else just wants to give MatPat a blanket, a cup of coffee, some cookies (maybe some made from exotic butters), have him sit down and just say “calm down, you’ve done enough.”
There are so many different layers of sound, but it's too bad that we don't hear most of them. I often think something is happening outside of the video but it's just one of the many sound layers, because when I rewind, I hear the sound again. Very dedicated way of building atmosphere, Mat!
MatPat managed to make the lore so complex that he made it cease to exist, a perfect cycle. Thank you, EDIT: Me remembering that the books are separate canon:
@@flashstar2975 yeah I feel like the books, while they aren’t canon to the main story, they shed light on elements that actually happened in the main story so we can put the pieces together from the books.
FNAF is how I found MatPats channel, I had to find someone who could explain what on earth this Five Nights at Freddy’s thing is all about and he did it best. Came for FNAF and stayed addicted to MatPats many channels ever since 😅
Pretty sure Scott just threw random stuff on a wall, waited for MatPat to make a theory to see how he would connect it and just said most of it was right.
the heart matpat puts into trying to figure out this never ending lore is honestly so inspiring and i can just picture Scott sitting back and watching as he (tbh, all of us) gradually loses his mind over it
@@EL-uj1pl reminds of a meme I saw that was like "matpat explaining undertale lore" meanwhile tobyfox sitting there: "hmm interesting" (he doesn't know the lore)
you know it is very easy to just throw vague confusing clues with zero coherence and hype it up as "deep" lore I am not sure if Scott even thought much about the lore. He is probably just rolling the snowball at this point

FNAF is almost 10 years old at this point. Wow. It’s crazy. I remember when I was a kid and would watch MatPat, Jack, and Mark play the first game back when it was new.
Without any interest in the lore this series would had been done a while ago. There are other channels and blogs that are into the lore. But non that have a following like MatPat’s … and no channel pieces things together like he does. I think even Scott doesn’t knows wtheck is going on anymore let alone steel wool.
I hope one day Scott comes out and explains the story. I only say this because Scott's vision for the storyline of this franchise has changed so often that nobody can tell what's canon and what's old ideas that no longer exist
You know, Scott should at the bare minimum be appreciative of MatPat cuz he's been carrying this franchise's community on his back with his theories just as much as the developer himself, if not greater.
Mattpat is such an authority on the FNAF lore at this point that whatever he says is fact. He could tell me that William Afton is an alien from a planet that specializes in remnant and went to Earth to harvest it and I would believe him.
i like how the pre order for the quest jacket is sold out like.... thats the point of a pre order so that you can get numbers before selling em so you dont sell out
At this point, the franchise requires a sort of reboot to clarify some of the stuff. It would be nice to see a remake of the core games to at least clarify and retcon some of the things that got a bit confusing in the way since the story was made up as each game launched. Although I have to admit, that's the special charm of FNAF, there's always something unanswered.
I definitely agree, the lore is so messy for anyone to keep up since SB and I feel we needs some clarity or at least some help or hints on whats true and whats not.
That's what I'm hoping the fnaf movie is, having the games story in a clear way that doesn't make it too confusing to understand, but just enough confusion to make it more interesting.
@@KingMytch I literally just want Scott to keep the story with the Afton's and just release a book explaining the story he had in mind. I'm so over FNAF now, I tolerated ample "soft reboots" in hope that we would get an actual story and now I've finally realized we're never getting it
I think patient 46 is Monty cause he looks like he wears disguises and the therapist said in a different video "I can see your eyes know" monty wears glasses and you can't see his eyes
The sentence "This revelation about the first 4 games being GAMES demands a whole new look on the series" Is the best. It reminds me of when Scott teased you for looking too deeply into these things.
I always took it that (most) of the games were real in-universe, but not like...the glitches and secrets that reveal the hidden lore. So the OG is just a game about a security guard surviving 5 days checking security cameras, but our version is haunted. Stuff like the game crashing doesn't translate into the universe, it only translates as spooky things happening to us.
Remember : in the lore the guard survives 5 nights, in OUR gameplay the guard gets jumpscared, Meets Golden freddy in the office, dies ecc... Heck, maybe the guard even met golden freddy, but as a poster, not an actual enecounter, WE met golden freddy in an actual enecounter ecc..
