The Bunny Graveyard was a game that came out of nowhere and was maybe one of my favorite games of the year. A game with a great art style, unique gameplay, and intriguing story, sign me up! We all know I'm a sucker for a good puzzle to solve and Bunny Graveyard gave me exactly that, it left me with questions but also gave me enough to try and figure out what's really going on in this game. I was actually noticing how the rotating bunny icon (from blue with the heart eye to orange with the circle) kinda just looks like a single head rotating around. And the bad eye just flips because of the perspective. I think it might be a split personality issue as a result of the accident or possibly the cause of it.

I love this theory, so happy to see this game get more attention. My one criticism would be about C being a rabbit person. In his notes, he says he sees "tall rabbit-like creatures". If C was a rabbit person too, why would he describe them like that? Wouldn't he just say he sees other rabbits? That wording implies that C is from a world where rabbits are not anthropomorphic. I think C is somehow another human trapped in the game.

l'm not fully convinced C describing creatures as "rabbit-like" is really a problem,, if a human were to go to some other world/dimension/whatever and try to describe what the creatures there look like, couldnt "humanoid" or "human-like" be a valid descriptor? Especially if they have non-human traits as well,, "They're humanoid creatures but they have 6 arms." Or in C's case, "They're rabbit-like but taller than you'd think",, whether C is a bunny or not wouldnt change that description l dont think :]

Maybe not! Earlier in this theory, MatPat mentioned other worlds. Maybe in those other worlds, the species are different. So saying they're rabbit-like may not imply he is something else, but just a standalone observation through the lens of someone who's seen more than one species through the void. He could also not be sure they're entirely like him, as a human might be on an alien planet!

Yes, it is an identifier that is technically given to the main character, most noticeably by Skye, but the fact that Skye recognizes the main character as a cursor means that she is at least aware of the existence of cursors in general, which opens the possibility of there being multiple cursors.

Color theory for games. Red is often used for indicating danger or injury because its the color of red. Yellow and white is used for navigation because its the color of stars and torch light which travellers used to find their way to towns. Green is an indicator of health because its the color of plants. Blue is often used for magic because its the color of the sky and ocean which are vast and unknowable. Purple is often used for corruption because it stand out against black but is still a dark color (which is used to stand for death and decay) but also because there really isn't a lot of naturally purple anything in nature and it occurs very rarely in nature.

Also how being on blue team makes you slightly better at strategy games 'cuz it's a calming colour while being on the red team makes you better in action games cuz it stimulates aggression. Fire emblem makes a nice use of this with your units always being blue and enemy units being red with even character designs implementing these two colours for significant characters (eg giving your lord unit blue outfit)

It's not a hard science though. Red is also sometimes used to indicate HP, green is often used to indicate the path forward, and purple is sometimes used to indicate power

Hearing the phrase "trapped in the game" so often makes me think of Pony Island and how the players that failed became trapped in the game (which was also purgatory). Wondering if Bunny Graveyard took any inspiration from Pony Island, the name of the game makes more sense if there is some connection between these two.

If you saw something that was like you, but tall & creepy, you'd be able to tell if it wasn't human. To describe it, wouldn't you say "this tall, creepy, human-like thing"?

well, if sylvie IS just a defense program for the system it dosent make a lot of sense for her to have a visible in-game form. thus she couldve "absorbed" one of the existing game characters to easily gain a form with wich to decieve players. the form that was absorbed was programed as the mother of Boxers and was protective and attatched, and combining the two similar behavior programs caused the extreme behavior we see in game. meanwhile Boxers knows something happened to his mom and that what Sylvie is now isnt who she was. So he does his best to hide from her out of fear, just like a child in the real world would be suspicious and frightened of a stranger who claims to be one of their parents. alternately, the defence program was given a rabbit character to inhabit because some peculiarity of the game we havent uncovered yet means giving the defense system an actual character makes it more effective, and boxers is part of the program that acts as a backup. the two were programed as mother and son because Boxers is partially a learning program and this is an in-game explanation for why he starts behaving more like her as the program develops (so we dont get suspicious of them). but Sylvie got corrupted by whatever the black goo is and Boxers recognises shes a different, more dangerous program now. hence why he wants to avoid her, why he wants to escape to the void (so he can find and protect the real skye like he was programed to), and why his program now protects you and the handies.

Boxers did want to leave the world through the labyrinth, and he might want to do that because he was programed to protect Skye and is using the most accessible route to get to her. Even if whatever sentience he has (as a program) doesn’t actively know that.

@@Dr_zevia i rewatched this and had another thought. maybe boxers is claudio? we dont know what he looks like, we dont know if his real name is Boxers, and it would explain sylvie's connection to the black goo and her extreme overprotectiveness. claudio was taken by the goo, sylvie (or the mother character she used to be) followed and got corrupted, and now claudio is trying to get back without letting sylvie follow and possibly hurt skye. it does cause a couple of problems with the idea that boxers and sylvie are security programs. but if the first theory is true then its an explanation for why he wants to find the void. it could also be that "C" is another person who entered the program that absorbed the claudio character like sylvie absorbed the mom, and the goo is real people's minds/souls looking for characters to inhabit, but C wants to get Skye out instead of protecting her existence in the program? or vice versa, and claudio absorbed whoever boxers used to be.

Add-on to this! So if C is Claudio, and he is also Silvia’s little brother, he would recognize Skye. That means when C describes the “tall, rabbit-like creatures” in the notes, he’s not talking about Skye. Firstly, notice the pluralizations of creatures. He’s talking about more than one person. Second, he saids “rabbit-like”. If C himself is an anthropomorphic rabbit, he would not describe other anthropomorphic rabbits as “rabbit-like”, he’d just say rabbit. This means they’re not regular bunnies. My persona theory is that C saw Silvia and Boxers. Silva calls herself Boxers’ mother, so it might have been a younger Silvia and Boxers gardening before Boxers left and created the fight club.

As a Puerto Rican, I'm so happy that this game is getting recognition, as it was a Puerto Rican Indie developer who made it. 8:23 Not Cuba, Puerto Rico, though we do use DD/MM/YYYY format too in Spanish, in English is the same as in the US.

If Sylvie is just a computer firewall program, then whats the deal with Boxer? It is metioned that Sylive is his mother. How does that fit in? Was Boxer programed in with Sylive and when rouge? Or did Sylive make Boxer to try to help her only for him to go rouge.

Matpat should definitely make a video about the game “grounded” it’s a really interesting game where you get shrunk down by a lab and are put in this scientist wendell’s backyard. through tapes you learn about wendell and near the end you find wendell and meet him, you find out he’s been shrunken down for years and he helps you grow again, lots of interesting lore that matpat should talk about.

8:22 Mat just did a Spideman 2 moment. The devs of TBG aren't Cuban 🇨🇺, they're actually from Puerto Rico 🇵🇷. Similar flag but not same country. Honestly, no clue how he thought that they were Cuban when the devs Twitter literally have the flag from Puerto Rico in their username.

8:53 Yes matpat, saying subscribe makes the subscribe button get outlined in a rainbow color and if you hit the button immediately after, it flashes gold. I guess it only works on a video if your unsubscribed and not on the youtubers channel.

Hey MatPat, awesome video! Just wanted to gently let you know the awesome developers are Puerto Rico. I'm Cuban-American, and the Cuban and Puerto Rican flags are really similar. (Also I don't think Cuba would let citizens sell games in the US yet bc of the embargo to my best knowledge?)
