Imagine if they made this for switch with all the games, the originals, the remakes, and remake them again! Putting it into words sounds like a pipe dream lmao
When playing these games, I realize that each little game has its own sense of timing. Some of it strict, some of it fast and loose. Of course, one of the big problems with the G&W Galleries was always its "Git Gud" progression. I use save states without guilt because of it.
The Ds (at least here in spain) had a club nintendo game that had the original game and watch donkey kong, oil panic and the game where you killed bugs on 2 screens. It even had an alarm feature, but there were no remakes, extras or unlockables. Still, probably the best way to experience the original games.
In case you're curious to know what the blocks do in the Oil Panic game in "Game & Watch Gallery", the ones on the right produce coins whenever you give Yoshi the oil while he's standing on the edge of the right, whereas the ones on the left create platforms of blocks that you have to form multiple times for Yoshi to climb up and he attacks Bowser with a fireball before eventually coming back to drop more oil afterwards.
I keep seeing these at the local game store and have always wanted to learn bout them, definitely seems like a great batch. Awesome job on the video dude!
11:20 There's a lot of info here: Right side blocks give you extra points and sometimes an extra life heart and as for Left side blocks you have to get 4 blocks in order to hit bowser with a fireball
Being a child of the 80s I had a lot of the original Game & Watch Mario, Dk, Dk Jr, Snoopy, Mickey etc ( I so wish my mom never gave them away) so for me seeing Game & Watch make a comeback as far as nostalgia. I truly enjoyed them then and love them now. I’m glad Nintendo put my fave Game & Watch 3 on the Switch..I still have my cartridge. I think it will bring more attention to Game & Watch and some will grow to love it. I love Egg but the Yoshi’s Cookie in modern was my ultimate fave game to play.
Great video, dude. It's cool to see someone as young as you take such a huge interest in obscure retro games. I played a ton of Game & Watch Gallery 1 & 2 on my 3DS back in the day, and Parachute was always one of my go-to arcade-like experiences.
To be honest, I never found Urban Champion to be that bad compared to what many others say. Yes it's outdated for fighting game standards, but, eh, I like it.
I got Game & Watch Gallery 2 along with my Atomic Purple Gameboy Color and played it like crazy. I think the series speaks volumes to the idea of "simple fun". I could honestly play Helmet and Chef for hours and often did
In 2002, I was in first grade and got Game & Watch Gallery 4 on my Game Boy Advance. Later on in the 2010s, I got the first 3 via the 3DS Virtual Console and loved those too. This series went so hard and it's good to see someone giving it the attention it absolutely deserves. I also was fascinated by retro gaming when I was a kid. I guess it's because while the SNES was old when I was little in the early 2000s.. it wasn't retro yet and many of its games got GBA ports and the GBA was capable of playing original GB games. I also went to swapmeets that had Famiclones with games like Contra and Super Mario Bros. on them (I've seen that even 20+ years later the swapmeets still do and kids now still wanna play the oldies but goodies on NES). When I used to go to the Boys & Girls Club, kids still traded Gen. 1 and 2 Pokemon games on Game Boy Colors (even when the DS was out). Virtual Console on Wii made the world of retro super accessible before I knew how to tinker with emulators. I didn't even know Tose made these games until seeing this! Thanks for making this video and shining a light on a retro series that deserves recognition.
Game&Watch Gallery 3 + A Yellow Special Edition, Tommy Hilfiger Gameboy Color, was my first personal game and console, as a kid. Got it on christmas all those years ago. It was mind blowing for me. Played the hell out of it and loved unlocking stuff. For some reason, even with the internet later on in life, i had no clue about the earlier entries until the 3ds. Been super obsessed and im dying for a Switch collection of it all. And it’d be amazing if they made NEW games with modern graphics and concepts using all sorts of Nintendo characters. Almost like a Smash Bros. “Everyone is here,” mentality. Man these games are underrated.
For Modern Helmet, there is a high risk/high reward system of a sort. If you keep collecting coins without going through the door, your character will start moving to a crawl making it harder to avoid the “wrath of Home Depot.”
If you get far enough in Rain Shower, Peach and Dk Jr show up on the bottom right row. Waluigi will also occasionally show up and move one of your rows.
Fun Fact: Game And Watch Gallery 4 was the last Nintendo game to feature Cranky Kong as Donkey Kong and the last Nintendo game to feature Donkey Kong (The Same Donkey Kong That Saved His Banana Hoard From King K Rool) as Donkey Kong Jr.
I totally forgot 1-3 are on the 3ds virtual console as well as singular game and watch games more akin to the feel of the dual screen feeling so I'm certainly going to grab 1-3 and chef and manhole singularly as well. I'm a simple man and these are the perfect combination of zen, reflexes, score chasing and time killing.
Mario’s Cement Mixer was the second release of that game. Original was Game & Watch Table Top series and debuted on April 28, 1983. Added Mario to sell more units.
11:17 I think Yoshi does it because it’s just your usual Bowser boss fight but it’s a game and watch styled game. Just give Yoshi 2 full buckets of oil 4 times and he’ll barf out a fire ball at Bowser causing the koopa king himself to fall off the castle.
My Ranking: 1. Game And Watch Gallery 3: I Really Love The Games In This One With Classic Egg And Modern Turtle Bridge Being My Favorite. 2. Game And Watch Gallery 2: Again, Really Good Game Selection Bit Not As Good As Game And Watch Gallery 3. 3. Game And Watch Gallery 4: The Reason Why I Put This Game Here Is Because Of The Fact That Half Of The Selection Of The Games And From The Previous 3 Other Games But We Got Mr Game And Watch In It As A Reference So Thats Cool. 4. Game And Watch Gallery: The Game Selection Is Very Short And Basic And I Don’t Know How They Did Not Include Ball For It Being The First Game In The Series Without Game Boy Gallery. 5. Game Boy Gallery: Better Game Selection Then Game And Watch Gallery But They Could Of Replaced The Generic As Heck Kids With Mario Characters And Called It A Day.
I loved the G&W Gallery games as a kid, especially the GBA one. Also gave me appreciation for Mr. G&W in Smash Brothers. I also proudly bought the Mario and Zelda anniversary G&W handhelds they released a few years ago. Despite what some may say, they are the clearest and best handheld versions of the original Mario and Zelda games I ever played. I think the color and tint looks better then even the Virtual Console or Switch Online versions.
Yoshi makes those blocks to make his way up to bowser to either spit a fireball at him or shoot him with a gun (for real). You have to make several blocks before he does this though.
Now that Nintendo Switch Online includes Game Boy Advance games, well at least to those who have the "premium plan," here's hoping the fourth Game & Watch compilation arrives one day. Sure, it's far from the most popular GBA game unless you're a retro gamer, but it would be a nice addition.
Great review! I’ve decided to buy these games on the 3DS eshop. I always wanted to play and own these but never heard of these remakes. After the review I feel they are a must have.
@@Amiiben What are your thoughts on Game and Watch Gallery having one more installment that goes all out by having Every Game & Watch game (all with the Classic Mode, but most of them are given the "Modern" Mode, and it's made with 3D Graphics, featuring the return of the Classic design of Modern DK, and the long forgotten Donkey Kong Jr?)
Hello there fellow 2007 person also these videos are top quality! Like gosh how did you do all of this and (your in tidal zone Im one of the mods so your cool)
In xmas 2001 i got a teal gameboy color, along w/2 games. game & watch gallery 3 & xmen wolverine's rage. im biased towards 3,my fav part was the museum
Didn’t really get these games as a kid, despite owning some game and watch Minis, but I loved mario Bros! Juggling the two sides was challenging and making a close save exhilarating! Am i the only one who prefers the 8-bit art style? The gba game looks good but also very unusual for mario. It’s weird.
Great video that actually sheds some light on this series finally! But I am curious, does anyone know how to link together the games to unlock the full museums in Gallery 2 and 3? That's what you're supposed to do but I'm unsure how to do it.
I must not have played Galary 3 because I don't recognize it. Just 1, 2, & 4 There's no reason to remake Climber because obviously it's just ice climber dumbed down to LCD game. In safe buster if you pour the bombs into the left side. the flames will make the bombs explode and a key will start going up and if you can keep that key going up and up and up eventually it'll reach the top and the cops will be called because somehow the key can fly out of the chimney and hit the phone and dile 911. The key will fall back down making it very challenging but the points you rack up are worth trying. Reminds me of oil panic.
29:18 It's actually very easy, I got 5 stars just by staying in the middle, catching every drop and firing immediately. You seriously cannot lose that way. Pretty convenient that the flies are also in the middle 50% of the time
And that block in oil panic I think will give you coins when yoshi spits out fire and I think it protects the characters from getting hit by the oil? Not too sure
If the game was made into 3D, I'd like Classic Modern Donkey Kong to return. Movie DK looks similar to it, but he lacks the eyebrow hair and the brushed back hair.
I know the game and gallery will be on GBA Online but no fuck what about Game And Watch Online where you could play all except for the snoopy games and that one racist one.
Why do you like FFVIIR when the story is awful and ruins the story of the original? Now if it truly is a sequel it might have potential but as a remake it’s bad. Also it didn’t sell on ps4 it met the expectations when rereleased on ps5.
