I've been looking everywhere to try and find a solution for my problem with volume! I changed speakers, capacitors, potentiometer, and even the jack port. By watching your video I realized that I ripped the pad underneath the potentiometer, on the same pad you ripped. Thanks for the video! Where did you purchase those copper pads in that packet?

I apologize for getting back so late to this, I have been busy. However to answer your question, I got it from NorthRidgeFix. I will link the product below here: northridgefix.com/product/pad-strips-to-fix-ripped-pads-and-torn-wire-traces/

@@totalfix877 I came here to ask that too. What is it even soldered to? Is it just a pressure based contact that cold welds over time or something?

Thanks for sharing. I will have to do the same with my gbc. Where did you get volume control? And where can I get those small trace pads, that you used to fix the ripped pad? Cheers.
@totalfix877

Trace pads can be found at NorthRidgeFix website found here: northridgefix.com/product/pad-strips-to-fix-ripped-pads-and-torn-wire-traces/ The volume control can be purchased from a lot of places honestly, but I go with Console5 just because I get them in quickly: console5.com/store/replacement-game-boy-color-and-game-boy-advance-volume-potentiometer-volume-control-knob.html Just be mindful that on the volume wheel replacement, "If using this product in a GBA, you will need to solder pins 2 and 3 together and pins 4 and 5 together". I've replaced the speaker on one of my gameboys thinking the lack of sound was the speaker but still nothing. I checked to see if I was getting continuity in the headphone jack and it did so im thinking its the capacitor? Idk but its driving me crazy already.

Sorry for getting back so late on this, hopefully you have been able to fix it. To go into a bit more detail, most of the issues that I run into when fixing speaker related issues always have to do with the caps or the potentiometer on the wheel having a high resistance causing the volume to be low or absent. You would need a multimeter and inject voltage with some batteries to determine if the proper voltage is being received at the potentiometer.

I had a super funky problem with my GBC that this fixed as well! All I had to do was clean it with IPA, and I went in with a toothbrush to try and clean as much as I could. My volume would go up normally until the very last bit, where it would suddenly go down a little on speaker. With headphones, the volume would ramp normally but at max volume, the right channel would cut out entirely. I'm assuming the volume pot would just not be forwarding the right channel to the speaker/headphone downstream when at max volume. IPA and some elbow grease worked great tho!

Thanks for sharing this! I had a very low sound on my gameboy color so like you I changed the volume wheel and the speaker but after that the sound was out of order, the wheel at the minimum, the sound came out quite loud and at the maximum even louder but I can't mute now, any idea?
@totalfix877

On the volume wheel replacements, there is a common bridge you have to create for the GBA's with replacement potentiometers. As per most common replacements: If using this product in a GBA, you will need to solder pins 2 and 3 together and pins 4 and 5 together Reference: handheldlegend.com/products/game-boy-color-advance-volume-potentiometer Hopefully this helps

What's the best away to avoid ripping those 2 pads that are below the wheel? It seems like there is no way to properly desolder them.

My volume wheel is like tuning an old radio trying to find a spot with clear sound so I’m guessing it’s the volume wheel needs replacing. Wish I was better at soldering. Bit worried I’m gonna break it!
@totalfix877
@totalfix877 Год назад
The GBA volume wheels are a bit tricky, but not too bad after you have a bit of experience. There are alternative ways to make it easier to remove, but it would require cutting up the component.

I did it a couple of days ago. I’d just replaced the capacitors, so was feeling confident. The volume wheel was much harder. I managed to do it though and was surprised to find that it worked! I thought I’d broken it for sure! Sounds great now. Very happy. Thanks for replying and for the video.

Hey i recently got a GBC and it has no sound, any idea how i can tell if the issue's from the volume wheel or is it from the speaker?
@totalfix877
@totalfix877 2 года назад
You can plug in your headphones and test the volume wheel. Sometimes the speakers don’t work even when testing the resistance of the speaker with a multimeter. Hope that helps!

Yup! As long as you are able to create the connection to the existing trace, you can certainly repair a ripped pad that way even for a capacitor!

Have you tried inspecting the speaker to make sure that everything is fine? A lot of the ones I have worked on were defective from my experience and it may be the problem. I would suggest giving it a quick look first before going this route.

Do you know if Gameboy pocket Volume wheels are compatible with installing them on the Gameboy Advance?
@totalfix877
@totalfix877 2 года назад
I don’t know if you can to be honest I’ve never tried it myself, but in the case you do you’d have to solder pins 2 and 3 together as well as pins 4 and 5 together. I’d just be careful and get the proper parts, they’re fairly cheap.
