I always loved how Nintendo really took the effort to make their handhelds and their consoles feel like a perfect ecosystem. The GBA felt like a nice extension of the GameCube the way the Nintendo DS felt like a Wii extension, and the Gameboy felt like an NES extension, etc. Overall great video highlighting some titles of the GBA. I also love the episode graphic 🙌🏽

Quite a few games here that I didn't know existed, and only remained GameCube/console exclusives. What blew me away the msot from seeing all these is that a good portion of the GBA games had decent sound - probably because I usually played on my little GBA without headphones or other sound output.

@@GameCubeGalaxy I think it was most of them, hehe. I think 007 Nightfire was prob among the most surprising, because I had no idea that such a FPS was made on the handheld, outside of Doom and [I may have heard of] Medal of Honor.

Lol, when you said "Stiffy" for SSX Tricky I just kept playing the "It's Tricky" song in my head but changed to say "It's Stiffy". Seriously tons of awesome games here & love the comparison to console versions. As someone who never owned a GBA I've heard it's essentially a portable SNES, which has always made me interested. Unfortunately I'm just not much of a portable gamer, looks like I might need to get a Gcube just for the adapter.

Good lord, I forgot just how many GC games actually had GBA versions at the time since pretty much all of these I didn't even know about. Happy to see they're all pretty good in terms of quality and I loved how the devs tried to get 3D working on the GBA. At the time some might have said they looked bad but I always thought it was charming and damn near impressive what the GBA can actually do. Going to have to pick some of these up next time I get around to my retro game shop since most of these tend to be pretty cheap. Looking forward to seeing more episodes like this!

I didn't grow up with any handheld console. I bought a Pearl Blue Game Boy Advance SP (AGS-101) when I was 19 years old. I bought Namco Museum and Mario Kart Super Circuit with it. TMNT and Ultimate Spider-Man were also on GameCube and Game Boy Advance. Ghost Rider wasn't on the GameCube but on Advance and PlayStation 2. Great game on the Advance in my opinion.

Dude such an awesome and unique take that incorporate both the GC and the GB. What an crazy for really unique idea that Nintendo at the time went forward with. I still need the Gameboy Player myself. I see it at a few retro gaming stores but it's too expensive for my taste. Never thought FPS games would do well on the GBA, I'm not crazy about 007 on it but it sounds like you came away with some moderate fun from it. I almost picked up Drome Racers but put it back a few weeks ago, just didn't seem like it was a "must-have" game, the GBA version looks much better. Gauntlet looks pretty legit, but that's a bummer to hear that it's missing multiplayer. I hate saying this but I'm just not a fan of all of the GBA graphics. I don't know what style you'd call it but for instance, the Spyhunter game just looks so ugly. Some games can turn out beautiful but for the most part, I see that graphical style for Spyhunter a lot for other GBA games. Dead to Rights is a series I have on the PlayStation but I still need to play them, bummer it's not too hot on the GBA. Super Monkey Ball Jr looks great, good to hear it's a very faithful port. Wonderful video, GCG! I learned a lot and discovered many games on the GBA that I wasn't aware were ports or existed at all. Thanks for a phenomenal video!
@GameCubeGalaxy
@GameCubeGalaxy Год назад
The Game Boy Player is definitely an essential for the GameCube! Expensive now due to the Game Boy Player Startup Disc, but worth it if you can nab it. 007 Nightfire is okay for the GBA, not great, but still fun. 007 Everything or Nothing on the GBA is definitely a better fit. Drome Racers on the GBA is definitely worth getting! Gauntlet is fun, but man the lack of co-op is a huge “what were they thinking” moment lol. I can respect if you weren’t a fan of all the graphical styles on the GBA. I will say, it’s the one platform I felt had the most varied graphical styles of any platform. Dead to Rights I’d definitely stick to the home console versions lol. Super Monkey Ball Jr is such an awesome port of the GC original! Thanks for checking out the video man! Glad you learned about some titles, and really enjoyed it!

This was awesome! It made me add 2 games on my wishlist: 007 Everything or Nothing (the graphics looks insane for a GBA port) and Gauntlet! Plus you mentioned the RE2 Demo and I've found the rom of it (since it doesn't exist in physical format)! My friend is one of the biggest RE fan that I know (his collection is very impressive) and I'm sending him the file so that he can try it out! You definitely need to make more port vids like this one as it's not something that we see on YT and it's super interesting! Great video and keep up the good work!

The GBA is such a neat little handheld. I am playing THPS4, Tekken Advance, Batman Begins, SpongeBob BFBB, Fairly Odd Parents Breakin' Da Rules, Simpsons Road Rage, Finding Nemo, Incredibles, Tomb Raider Legends and GT Advance on my DS Lite as I watch this video. I prefer GBA games over DS games these days, but the DS ain't no slouch either. Some of the DS ports are neat like some of the Tony Hawks play like the PS1 games, the Naruto 3D fighters plays like the CON/GNT series on GameCube and Wii and there's Burnout Legends which plays like Burnout 3, but scaled down due to the DS' limitations unlike the PSP which is like a portable PS2 thus' being more capable, but it's still awesome. I am considering getting an EZ-Flash. Funny that I play GameCube games more on Wii and GBA games more on DS than the actual games both machines were designed for. Funny thing to think about.
@GameCubeGalaxy
@GameCubeGalaxy Год назад
The GBA really was an awesome handheld! You're playing through some solid games currently! Funny, I used to prefer playing my GBA games on the DS Lite for years too. The DS was a banger handheld! So many amazing games on there, and a handheld I've been diving back into collecting for and gaming on lately. Tony Hawk American Sk8land is an AMAZING THPS portable experience, that like you said, plays like the PS1 games. Burnout Legends is okay, although after playing something like Asphalt 2 on the DS, that's a much closer "Burnout" experience. I don't know much about the EZ-Flash's quality, but I snagged the EverDrive GBA and was worth every penny! Thanks for checking out the video!
@SonicandRatchetCo
@SonicandRatchetCo Год назад
Also I'm considering getting a Free McBoot memory card, Gamestar hard drive and expansion and a decently-sized HDD for my Phat PS2. Honestly softmodding systems and getting flash carts are the only way I can play a lot of games without spending a kidney. I played through stuff like Go Go Hypergrind, Cubivore and Capcom vs. SNK 2. Willing to do it again if it mean playing games like Marvel vs. Capcom 2, Space Channel 5, Naruto Ultimate Ninja series and WWE Smackdown Here Comes The Pain.
