www.figureitoutproductions.com / figureitoutproductions In this video I clean and restore a Mattel Intellivision that was given to me for free by a dude named Ivan. Wooooooooo!
Regarding cleaning the cartridge port, I would recommend using 99 percent rubbing alcohol instead of the cleaner you are using...even coat it with electronic contact cleaner that also protects against future oxidation. Also, I would desolder the radiation shield, so the board can be properly cleaned as well.
I don't know why, but whenever I'm bored, your videos are actually pretty nice to have to watch. I'm not at all into retro games (think I've said this about 5 times now), but it's a real pleasure to watch this for some reason.
I'm not sure if anyone has said this yet or not, but that INTV System III was not actually put out by Mattel. It was a separate company that started selling those things after Mattel discontinued the Intellivision line after the video game crash. Interestingly enough, Mattel did plan on releasing an actual Intellivision III, which would have been roughly as powerful as the NES and Sega Master System, but it never came to fruition except for a prototype build and like a single demo screenshot of Castle Grayskull or something. Awesome cleanuip though! It's really nice to see some love for the Intellivision every now and then. :)
Hay Adam great video thanks for sharing the details of the system, just a little tip for you and the other viewers as a watch repair man I take pictures of things if I'm not sure I'll remember how things go back together then if I forget I just look at my photos and bingo
Thank you for all of the detailed instructions . I recently introduced my son to retro gaming with my family's original Atari and my original NES and we started collecting again . We cleaned up those systems and games . A few weeks back I won an auction and received 2 intellivision systems for $25 . I have never owned an intellivision before , but I can still remember the commercials for it when I was a kid . I am very excited to be back into retro gaming now . So much so that my ps4 is now gathering dust . I plan to follow this video as I clean both intellivision tomorrow . I also have a friend selling me an Odyessey 2 . Another system I have never owned . Any tips on cleaning it ?
Great video. I have a few consoles that need this kind of cleaning. Probably extra work for you, but would love to see maybe still images of before and after side by side comparison. Like they do with those cleaning product commercials :)
Thanks for making this! One suggestion...when cleaning the top/face plate of the console, try to minimize how much water you get on the gold top. Same with using Pledge for the shine. The gold is a sticker and you can get water under the edges, which can make it bubble. Use a damp cloth and wipe dry immediately.
Adam you really are an inspiration I'm 13 and I'm really into this stuff I've started a collection of consoles and games and now my intelivision is working thank you so much!!!😀
i know im asking randomly but does any of you know a way to get back into an Instagram account..? I was stupid lost the account password. I would appreciate any help you can offer me!
@Bowen Owen I really appreciate your reply. I got to the site on google and Im in the hacking process atm. I see it takes a while so I will reply here later with my results.
So I just opened my Intellivision to clean it using your video and I noticed on the silver part that surrounds all the chips there is a dark smudges on it like carbon scoring. What can I use to clean it off?
Just won one of these for super cheap on the Goodwill auction site. It looks to be in good shape physically but absolutely filthy, so this will be great when it arrives :)
Hey Adam, what are some good methods for drying plastic parts? I know you always say to just wait, but I'm always getting droplets of water inside screw holes and they never seem to go away after letting it sit overnight. Should I keep it in a certain environment like a cooler room or something?
Any ideas where I can get a gold colored sticker for the disc of one of the controllers? My intellivision is perfect except one of the controllers is missing the gold disc - this drives my OCD crazy. Any thoughts? Thanks!
LAGGY MOO Honestly, I don't like videos like that because they become so out of date so quickly. So, if I do one it'll either be because I'm done collecting or quitting RU-vid.
how long do you leave the console to dry? I find areas around screw posts usually have "support" pieces of plastic that create little spaces that are hard to get to and take longer to dry. btw thanks for doing these! I was cleaning my SNES-es and totally got confused about what screws go where, these videos (well just the SNES one in that case) are really helpful
The problem with my intellivision is that I can put any cartridge in and the green screen appears displaying the game I put in, but I can't get into the game. Once, I got into the game and it worked normally. When I lost, I couldn't get back in no mater how long I tried re-setting or turning on and off, tapping, bumping etc. Hitting it did not cause the screen to flicker. So it doesn't seem like something is loose. Any ideas?
My intelevision works but my controllers react differently for each game even after cleaning inside the system and inside the controllers any idea on how to fix this?
AdamKoralik Your Intellivision III wasn't made my Mattel. It was made by INTV who just re-branded the Intellivision I after their stock of Intellivision II ran out.
Hi gamerade Adam koralik figure it out I just did research on the mattel intellevision system there's white connectors on the motherboard where the controllers are plugged in they can be removed
AdamKoralik i like them as well, but i honestly cannot see it going past $4m now, while the interest rest in the game early was immense, it was from its longtime fans, those that don't know the game are unlikely to back it without having played 1+2 so im hoping sony help with the funding as i'd love the game we fans deserve after waiting 14 years.
Much confusion came for this video game console. It requires a video game cartridge and a keypad game card. It would be more complicated when it, also requires a typewriters keyboard. The video games for Mattel Electronics Intellevision in the future; they would've been a little more graphic.
***** I actually got my dreamcast for like 40 dollars at a movie trading company store that came with a controller, vmu, and a couple crappy sports games. Its in pretty good shape its almost like new not a single scratch. Its just kinda hard playing sonic adventure 2 with the controller like getting on those rails is really frustrating lol
I always wanted to know this console name and I was searching for it's name since like forever. I can't believe that you own one. I had one of those when I was 7 years old but my dad sold it when I was 11. I had one game for it but I can't remember the name of the game. It was like Mario the character looked like Mario and I remember he was chasing foods like Sausage and sandwiches and throw salt and pepper on them to kill them lol. Man I wish I knew that game name. Thank you for uploading this :D
A Little history. The Intellivision 2 was redesigned because Mattel licensed the manufacturing and design to the Tandy Corporation ( Radio Shack) for a short time to save money. The result was the Tandyvision ( available at Radio shack, which was everywhere at the time). So when the exclusive deal was up, Mattel, launched the redesign for mass market to separate it from the Tandyvision. Later, Mattel regained the the rights from Tandy, they launched the INTV.
jeff andi It wasn't Mattel that released the INTV. I think it was someone who worked in Mattel's gaming department that bought the rights to the Intellivision line, after Mattel pulled out of the market, who released the INTV.
Michael Wolfe Yes, the real Intellivision 3 was to be an add on for the Intellivision 2. Mattel, before pulling out of the business was developing a 32X years before Sega did it lol. Be all that as it may, it was the same hardware and idea. Just labeled INTV Corp. In place of the Mattel name. In the end it's just hardware. The developers, Blue Sky Rangers owned the first party library. Intellivision Lives!
Adam, can you please, please, please make a video showing me how to put the Intellivision controllers back the right way? They will never do that for me, and it makes me kinda angry.
ya that is also how i got my dreamcast it was on there as broken and all i did was clean it with the help of your video thanks btw. also i fixed a model 2 genesis and a gamecube that were "broken
Hey Adam can you do one of your next shows about tech specs on current consoles especially Wii-u as it has great graphics Nintendo should get behind it I love my wii-u. Nobody has really done a RU-vid show of your quality on what's in side these boxs e.g. ram and processing power. I know you can buy a faster HDD for ps4 but you could compare them to last gen or something failing this you could get Samantha fox on the show singing touch me lol.
What you consider filthy: small ammounts of dust gathered in the corners. What I consider filthy: cobwebs, dead bugs, rust, etc. I opened a friends N64 once and found all that inside of it. It was horrifying. Also, that damn bottle of windex is so aged. I bet you've never bought a new bottle, just kept refilling that one. You really should be sponsored by them.
I don't think the intelevision was released in the uk that or it was the fact that consoles weren't very popular and computers dominated the market like the zx spectrum and comadore ect
I never knew the system was hard wired. I have the Sears Super Video Arcade, have had it since the 80's. The power cord is hard wired, but the controllers are free. They use the same connection as the Sega Genesis. Astrosmash is one of my favorite games. Im also a fan of Mission X and Triple Play. Adam, do you have a favorite game on the Intellivision?
AdamKoralik Well, Triple Action is fun, but its a 2 player game. I used to play the bi-plane dog fighting with my brother all the time, even when we had our NES. Game was a lot of fun. There is also a tank battle game in there along with a race car game. All pretty simple but really fun. Frog Bog is a good one, it was played in the movie Grandmas Boy. There is one called, I think, Night Stalker. If thats the title of what I am thinking about, its pretty intense for its era. There is also Astrosmash, which is one of my favs, plus what I said up top there, Mission X. Mission X is a top down vertical shooter. Its pretty awesome. Another great game is River Raid. Heck, if you have the Intellivision Lives game for Xbox, pretty much all the classics are on that, but they are so much better playing them on the real system. As long as you have the game cards.
AdamKoralik Astrosmash, Burgertime, Night Stalker, Snafu, Shark Shark, Tron Deadly Discs, MLB, Skiing, Demon Attack, Atlantis, Mission X, Bump n Jump. Definitely the Activision games (Worm Whomper, River Raid, Beamrider, Dreadnaught Factor, etc). For a bit more money...Diner, Thin Ice, Thunder Castle, Tower of Doom, Body Slam Super Pro Wrestling. Keep in mind most of the early sports games are 2 player only.
Cringed when you said “Astromash” 😂😂😂 Otherwise, cool video! Also, I know you made this video quite a while back, but Mattel made the first and 2nd Intellivision, but the INTV System 3 was a separate company from Mattel. They got the rights from Mattel to produce and distribute the Intellivision after the Video game crash of 83.
It was done by the former Matell Electronics division who worked on the Intellivison. After Mattel shut it down, they formed INTV Corp and bought all the rights to the system, games and such and sold all the old stock and eventually produced the System 3 as well as finished a few canceled titles and sold them. Of course years later after Keith Robinson's passing, Tommy Tallirico at Keith's funeral conned Keith's widow into selling his shares of INTV corp and well that's a whole other mess.
+John Stahlman Yes it did there was games like Carnival and a few others that will not work on an Intelivision 2 system. Clearly says it on cartridge box as well on what games wont play on Intelivision 2 systems. There were few others as well.
We're just gonna go ahead and go ahead and go ahead just gonna go ahead and go ahead and go ahead just gonna go ahead and go ahead and go ahead just gonna go ahead and go ahead and go ahead
Hi gamerade Adam koralik figure it out I think the mattel intellevision system a great videogame system used a voice module only 7 games used the voice b-17 bomber bomb squad space Spartans tron solar sailer intellevision world series baseball Las Vegas poker and blackjack and shark shark
