Mostly accurate. The event was mostly just a public video, some basic rewards, and a stigmata (equip item) of Yae Sakura in a bunny outfit. The event was for the global server's anniversary. Some CN players that were angry because 1. One of the characters that was put in the center, Fu hua is supposedly the one that represents China the most. Bunny girl suits are synonymous with prostitution from the eyes of those players, and they didn't want their patriotic character being "whored out" to the global audience (NTR). 2. They didn't like any other server getting preferential treatment in any way (even though CN gets tons of exclusive events). 3. They didn't like that GLB got any sort of compensation (even though it was 5x less than what the complainers got). Mihoyo saw a 67% reduction of revenue from their HI3 CN server during the month of the controversy. While some of that could be chalked up to the patch prior having a very strong character (so that people's wallet need a rest), they were feeling the pressure to address the situation. Most of the GLB players I've talked to are mostly upset about the inequality of the compensation given out, but also the precedent that this sets. The CN trolls have been rewarded for their complaining and will inevitable continue to do so, which may impact future events in other servers. It's a really crazy situation, and I don't think that Mihoyo handled it very well. And the fact that someone went so far as to attempt murder is.. just baffling. They must be under a lot of stress, I pray for their safety.
