My fiancee and I get married Saturday we are into a lot of thing's. Like Anime, Video games, Movies, Music, etc... we're young and so happy that we have known each other for a while. It's people like Johny and fellow gamers, anime lover's, movie buffs who gave us younger people the pride to love our hobbies but still search for love and relationships.

Dude, I am almost 30 and single as hell.

Remember being quite isolated as a kid growing up till later collage. When I was able to partly introduce anime to a few friends who ended up liking it (to point of introducing Attack on Titan to a work colleague who's never watched anything and binged the first season) But youngers years I think where harder due to the lack of communication in your circle of interest eg lack of smart phones/ RU-vid etc. Meaning I wasn't able or sure where to find other like minded people. Thankfully gaming help bridge some of the gaps. It was when we had Cable and the ScFi channel. The first time I caught a glimpse of anime was Fist of the North Star (movie) and asked mum to record it via VHS. As she believed it to be just a cartoon 😂 shortly after that I came across Wicked City, Monster City, Talis Man of the World and Wind of Amnesia. Admittedly as much as i love the open source and availability to anime now eg Netflix etc. I do get annoyed at the individuals who portray an interest who actually don't have an interest because it's now deemed as cool to do so.

I've been married since I was 19. I met my wife in high school and I did hide for a little while that I liked video games and comics and nerdy stuff. I'm 26 now and my wife may not like the things I like but we both support the hobbies we are both into and we think both of each others hobbies and cool and interesting in their own ways

I think there has been a divide in pop culture now, so there is "acceptable nerdy" and "actual nerdy." Watching Marvel Movies and Star Wars seems pretty acceptable anymore, but certain hobbies like non-mainstream anime or playing RPGs still have much more of a stigma associated with them.

It amazing how much acceptable anime and gaming have become over the years. I'm an anime fan for only 10+ years, so I don't know the "nightmare" how it is to be an anime fan on the 80ths. But what I can say, that on recent years, every couple of months there is an article on the news in my country. Those articles nowadays are very positive. It is nothing like when I started to watch anime. But then again... I look like a hipster for the the new generation of anime fans, which likes My Hero Academia and Attack on Titan, which are good shows. But now I watch and like more things like Glass Mask, Harlock, Rose of Versaiiles, Black Jack, and Heidi.

Wife and I are 30, married, met grade 11, though I've had struggles honestly we are very happy with a 6 year old and a baby girl on the way. I grew up on games, wife was the same. We game to this day, mhw, ow, 3arc zombies, dedicated stuff. Both of us are tattoo'd with gaming stuff, my left arm and right calf are is covered and she has a huge foxhound on her back. Its amazing to the point our son is Brock Grayson, pkmn and batman. We are think about Misty as a girl's name atm. Just fits. He's also a dedicated gamer and my sidekick in any game we play, be it zombies or ow or Fortnite save Anyways, tldr. Its possible. The one thing I'd like to share, a word of advice. Don't force your wife to play even if she's a gamer. She will play, maybe not every day but she will. If you beg she won't enjoy it, but she will come to you and ask constantly if she gets into it when she does ask on her on. This also works for men, the topic though was wife

JOhnnie, you are super lucky though, and your wife isnt even an otaku or gamer in the truest sense, but she has come to appreciate things you like ,and formed her own likes over the course of your relationship with each other. Its still a bit taboo, but to a lesser extent to be into games,and especially anime, and comicbooks are hit or miss, but for most guys, andI mean worldwide most guys, trying to find a chick that is cool with all of that, let alone is into any of that stuff too, isstill fairly uncommon or rare. ITs like the lack of marriagable age women available in china for 50+ percent of men ages 20-50. And with the complications of life and relationship even worse than before, what with al lthe nonsense thats just involved in being alive in this day and age, things are just...less likely to be traditional. As a female that collects retro consoles & games, it can actually be an advantage. Yet when I met my husband, he had hardly ever played any video games & was intrigued by what I liked & I soon got hooked on the Playstation 3. So I was his game introduction. :) But I have always run by the theory of, if the person you are with isn't understanding to your interests, then they are not for you. They don't have to have all the same passions, but they need to at least accept them and visa versa, as it will mean for a much better relationship and also being open minded for any future new interests.

I think that Stigma still exists. There are a lot of people that look down on this hobby, and find it weird. Specially they think that it is for kids. If your an adult, then there must be something wrong with you.

It's nice when you get older and both you and people stop caring. As long as you are happy that's all that matters. I enjoy gaming as well as outdoor activities like skiing and camping, it's all good fun if you enjoy it. Stereotypes are for the birds.

I've been married 10 years, but every time I post a video showing my game room, I get lots of comments saying "virgin." On the most recent video, there were about 50 comments that said that. The stigma is very strong.

I'm 29 and I gave up on the idea of dating like three or four years ago. I always say it would take a truly remarkable girl to change my mind. I haven't met one. I'm perfectly content, maybe even better off, being single. Especially in the current climate of the dating world. I'm awkward enough as an introvert, talking to women is terrifying now, you have to be careful. You have to walk on eggshells not to offend and prevent miscommunication. I had a woman accuse me of staring at her chest while I was talking to her, while I was working., of course it was not true. It's rough now.

The stigma is still very much a thing here. My friend recently married and had to sell all of his gaming-related things due to the wife despising it. No one I know at work or in my family/groups of friends are into gaming, and they're generally the type to think of it as nerdy, geeky etc. My rents are constantly asking when I plan to quit gaming as well, since I'm too old for it at 36. I think it's easy to get really involved and caught up in gaming, or any hobby for that matter, and lose sight of what the average person off the street really thinks about it. There is definitely more acceptance now than back in the 80s, but the stigma is still generally pretty strong in a lot of circles.

Somehow I ended up dating my best friends sister. Both are gamers and so are their parents. Somehow, it seems to work out. As you said, it all depends on what/who makes you happy, and who you find. We play games pretty often together, we shout at each other when we do, but in a competatieve way. It never had effect on any other part of our relation, but gaming for sure was/is one of the things that brought us together in the first place.

Personally. I think you should marry people who are interested in the same things as you. Why compromise. You will just be bitter and regretful after a while.

I think there continues to be a stigma, depending on who you are talking about. A girl might not be into that stuff, but a lot of girls are. It's not even like a little bit. A lot of girls are into the video and anime scene, and it appears to be more and more.

Rushing into marriage is the worst thing you can do in your life. Take your time find the right person, don't jump the gun. Same with having kids, make sure you are mentally ready to have children as a couple and have resources to provide them a proper growing up. Show them life, enthusiasm explain everything to them how the world works. Don't spoil them teach them some discipline. Don't make kids just to make them. Instead have them and build them into a proper legacy.

Im married with a wife that dabbles in the the arts of video gaming and we most def watch anime together. Reading manga is how we really connected to begin with. We still discuss manga til this day.

This is the reason why those entertainment mediums no longer have an unattractive stigma attached to them.

So I can't talk about marriage, because I'm not married. But I liked that you touched on the change in stigma. When I was growing up it was very much playing video games or watching anime, reading manga, whatever, made you a nerd. And that was just the boys! I was a girl growing up in this time. I loved anime, I read manga and comic books, I've been playing video games as long as I can remember. I had one other girl friend who played games, and I'm so glad I at least had her. But we were very much the social outcasts because of it. Now, it just doesn't seem to be a big deal. I don't know if that's just because I'm no longer in school, or what. I left school many, many years ago now. Although, I do face some judgement over being an adult who's still into all these things. But nothing like when I was a kid.

Man, this is a tough one for me. Im 37. Ive had so many bad dating experiences. Girls like me, but they don't like that I play video games. It usually gets to a point where I get rid of them because they hold me back from what I want to do. The only one that liked video games was super religious, and after 1-8th grade catholic school, I am totally full atheist. My uncle is a huge jock. He was a bench warmer for the denver broncos in the 80s, and now is a sports psychologist for many players in the NFL. Growing up, he use to say things that would make me feel like the biggest looser. I was afraid to see him because I was afraid of how he was going to make fun of me. On top of not being the most popular kid in school, he made me feel like someone that barely deserved to be alive. While I am mostly over that at this point in my life, it has made it hard for me to want to date girls. I dont think ill ever get married. And he still makes fun of me for it, and his kids who are age 14 and below always ask me when I am going to get married. I just tell them I am getting married tomorrow to a trash can. They think its funny. Its whatever. I am mostly happy with my life. I really wish that people would get over social stigmas for certain people when those people arent hurting anyone. Oh well, such is life. I am jealous of younger people that grew up with less of a stigma towards video games. I mean, even young girls play video games now days. Before, they didnt do it because they would be even more of an outcast than a guy would be. Yuck. What a hassle.

Married, we now share our hobbies, she plays en enjoy videogames a lot and at the same time we watched a bunch of anime shows and i like it. Johnny, In general, I don't think it's unusual for "gamers" to married. Speaking from my own experience, my favorite hobby -- gaming -- was never an impediment with regards to getting married (or maintaining relationships that came before). In fact, my wife -- who has no interest in playing games -- found it to be a much healthier alternative to many of the more traditional pastimes (e.g., bar-hopping). That said, I have never let my love for gaming become an unhealthy and disruptive obsession. Although I can't say with absolute certainty, I suspect that an inability to balance and prioritize the time and energy necessary for a healthy relationship negatively affects one's pursuit of marriage.

Very important the message at the end. Being single is sometimes seen as a failure and it is not, in the least. Just have fun and be nice to everybody! ;)

I think it has to be said that the reason many people used to be into anime and video games was because they were anti-social. So the stigma of them never getting married was created as a response to their personalities.

Its sad that barely any anime air on Canadian television. Sure there are streaming services but its argueably still no where as close as good as when we had the Bionix block.

watching your videos for a while and tend to not leave comments yet I do enjoy your vids. That being said after watching, and reading a vast of the comments from others, there appears to be a missing concept. That is the concept of having a balance in life. I do not know where I stand age wise compared to most your viewers yet I am in my mid 30s, married, and have two children. Been with my wife for 11 years. Now I would say I'm not as old school with anime as Johnny is yet I started watching in the early 90s I would say and very little people watched, and played video games as well yet balance was the key when dating I think. To much of anything is a bad habit to have. Granted for Johnny and his friend on this video, its their jobs so I understand that concept. When I started dating my wife in college she was never into those things and still isn't to this day. I think she was fine with it when I played or watched, yet it wasn't 24/7. I had a job, was on the college rugby team, helped with her goals in life, etc. Its when something becomes so obsessive is when it creates an issue. It can be hard to get out of any rut that is being done for so long and so much time consumed. Find the balance that fits your lifestyle as Johnny says as marriage and dating just isn't for some people and that is fine too. If you feel you need a change in balance go and seek it out and ask people to help you with it. There is the concept that can be used as an analogy for any habit or timely habit and that is, "There are those who work to live, and those who live to work". One will have balance and peace, the other maybe successful or not in whatever they do yet will not be content with anything. Its a question we should all ask ourselves. Issue now is I am not into anime or RPGs but love retro games and platformers/arcade style games that are modern. finding a gal that fits in that in between is extremely difficult. I'm not saying I can't date a girl who likes anime but it definitely makes it harder to connect with them in my personal experience.

For me its simple: I am 31 now, i have been gaming and watching Anime for about 25 years now (yeah, started with the NES and Captain Tsubasa) and no fucking woman that i only now for a few months or even years should dare to put herself between me and my games/anime, possibly/basically giving me an ultimatum. Dont like it? Behind you is the door, fuck off now. Sure, i could meet a woman that has the same passion for Games and Anime as me as is as crazy about it as me but that woman is just 1 in a million. Could be some woman i will meet tomorrow on the street but why take the chance? Nah, if i die alone, so be it. As someones who's entering my senior year of HS next month, i'll say anime is incredibly popular at my school. Not everyone watches it though, but i'd say half of the guys (maybe less) watch anime (at least in my class). It's less popular among the girls, but almost everyone knows about it and I've never seen or heard of anyone recently getting bullied because of it like how it was in middle school and early high school. Things have changed dramatically since I started high school and it's honestly incredible! I used to be a bit embarrassed in middle school watching anime and so would never talk about it but now that so so so many people are talking about it, nobody has to feel embarrassed for liking it anymore! What a time!

If someone is a nerd and thinks ,, I ' m a shy ugly loser cause everyone has/Had a Girlfriend and I'm still a fucking Virgin only chasing nude patches online!" it can lead to depression or self hatred. I tought the same till my first real contact ( Birthday Party)with some girls at the age of 18. Its irrelevant what hobbys someone has,what matters is the character, the Inside and Outside appearrence. So with 19 i finally Had my First Girlfriend ( only 3 months but hey it was A real Girlfriend and my father stopped thinking that i could be gay...) and now im nearly 3 years in a very perfect relationship.

I am married with one son and another on the way in a few months. My wife likes games a little bit but not a gamer. She isnt into anime at all. But she accepts that I like games and anime. Not into them like I used too and so true about getting friends together to play games. Haven't played games in three months or so. It gets hard to as you get older and have a family. When our sons are older I want to show them and see if they like games. Anyway just wanted to give a perspective of a guy who loves games and anime and who is married with kids and have a wife who isnt totally into it. It is possible to have to enjoy what you love and if you are with the right person anything is possible.

Here where I live (Uruguay) things went like this: In 1997 I almost started my first relationship with a gal that lived next to my house just because we milked the living shit out of our respective NES systems from the afternoon to the midnight. We played videogames and watched anime like a pair of idiots yet as long as we didn't fuck up our grades in the school, our parents wouldlet us do whatever we wanted. But then her parents moved to another city and the last night we were togheter we finished our years of friendship and half romance playing non stop Contra and Super Contra. In the early 2000 I meeted a lot of people gals and guys who were just like me, they watched Anime and played a lot of games, even during our exams and test at the University we always talked about those topics. In 2004 I made strong firendship with random girls that eated videogames like no tomorrow, two of them ended up being like family, one loved Stronghold (PC) and the other Tomb Raider (PC) so almost every weekend we ended up drinking and playing videogames either in one of their houses or in my "cave". Finally in 2013 one of them ended up being my girlfriend and we ended up togheter since then. I never found anyone (even my own bosses at work) who thought it was strange that an adult watched anime or played videogames. Even people in their 50's had no problem at all with it, so either I been living in the twilight zone al this years or that "stigma" thing is not worldwide at all.

I've played games my whole life and I got married to my wife when I was 20. So, I would say follow your own path and everything will work out.
