Games I played in 2023, Ranked 

i became a pikmin fan during the drought and pikmin 4 was EVERYTHING I HOPED IT WOULD BE, it felt amazing to be present for one of my favorite franchises to get a new game after so long :,-)

totk was my favorite this year. I didn't immediately connect with botw but the changes they made in the sequel sucked me in immediately. the new abilities alone are more fun than I could've ever imagined. I got Pikmin 4 for Christmas tho and I'm so excited to finally pick up where I left off in the demo!

My favorite game that I played in 2023 is by far the ace attorney trilogy(the ace attorney series is my favorite gaming series) and now, having played almost the whole series, I still think that the first trilogy is the most nostalgic, and the best series discovery I have ever made.

Believe it or not I also played Pokémon black for the first time this year. I actually loved but totally understand the feeling of it being slow and lacking the whole multiplayer aspect of the game. Anyway I wanted to say that I love your videos, please never stop making them. That's all, bye.

I think my favorite game has to be Baldur's Gate 3, just from sheer hours played. But Switch game? Tied between TotK and Pikmin 4. Solid list.

Octopath Traveler 2, Pikmin 4, and TotK were the best games that I played that came out this year. In terms of older games, Super Metroid, Metroid Fusion, and Metroid Dread we’re amazing

My favorite game of the year was cemented right near the start: Hi-Fi Rush. No other game enthralled me the way it did. It understands the medium of video games so well and uses it to tell the ideal, playable version of a Saturday morning cartoon. Throw in some inspired music and gorgeous visuals, stellar character designs and voice acting, and A GRAPPLING HOOK IN A RHYTHM ACTION GAME. 10/10 NO NOTES.

Loved the vid, Voyan! My favorite from last year would probably be Omori. So much love, thought, and emotion went into that game, and as a big Earthbound/JRPG lover, it scratched my favorite itch.

Even as a Pokémon Gen 5 dickrider I'll absolutely defend you that it's not an easy game to go back to. The constant progression stops for story/custcenes really started there and if the formula is stale to you it will not be alleviated there. Indigo Disk was really the most fresh experience in awhile imo since every battle in the terarium is doubles.

Tears of the Kingdom is something I'll probably be able to come back to indefinitely, and there's great value in that. Otherwise, it was kinda a low year in games I could really sink my time into and thoroughly enjoy. A distant second would be Bravely Default 2.

Great list! Personnaly, my favorite games were Octopath Traveler 2, Baldur's Gate 3, the DLC for Xenoblade 3 and Tears of the Kingdom!

My favorite game from 2023 is what I played at the very begging of that year, and got the most fun. It's Metroid Dread.

my favourite game I played was not TOTK, as much as i wanted it to be it just fell short on so many levels personally. instead, my favourite game was Xenoblade Chronicles DE. every second of it was simply incredible, and I plan on playing through XC2 and XC3 hopefully this year!

Justice for Wario World (I’m sure it doesn’t hold up but I have the power of nostalgia on my side) My favorite release was the Mega Man Battle Network remaster

Oh egads! 10:26 Voyan, please! I was one of the guys who thought you were being kooky before launch and them it came out and it was Total Dog Water. Tears of the Kingdom Sucks. It's not an expansion or continuation (because they retcon everything). Frankly it's a Reboot with many things copy pasted but a few things different, and they're frequently worse than the original. I'd take the divine beast over the new temples any day, at least those had real puzzles with multiple solutions, and the quests to get them weren't stupid. Oh yeah great new enemy variety they added celling moblins, big bokoblins, and phantoms that are mind numbingly easy to dodge and take 1 hit to kill. And how about that Story? Somehow they managed to pull the same stunt twice with everything important happening a trillion years ago and may God protect you if you get the tears before finishing the quests. I should have never have even bothered with those stupid dungeons. Speaking of wastes of time, how about Slipping? They didn't remove it and they added a super duper expensive sticky effect that doesn't even work including a suit of frog armor that's hidden behind 12 of the worst quests ever and guess what, even after going to every end of the earth to build this suit- IT DOESN'T EVEN WORK! YOU STILL SLIP WHILE WEARING IT! The effects somehow got even more convoluted and backwards with more outfits and a worse fairy fountain system locked behind an obnoxious quest. There are benefits that increase your damage in some weather conditions but don't make you immune to said conditions. Also, if it's hot or cold you'll likely need to also be wearing the sand or snow boots to get anywhere. And these make even less sense when you consider that there is literally suit that increases your damage in literally every situation, regardless of the weather. The clothes are also so expensive, I was broke throughout the game I had to turn to exploits. Link turned into a part time meat packer in Alaska in my game and it was literally the most lucrative business in the universe. And don't get me started on the fringe benefits like sky mobility, why on earth would I ever wear that except when sky diving? You can pause the game, change your outfit, use it's effect, get where you need to go, pause the game, change back, and there is literally only punishments for not doing it this way. Why don't they just give you permanent skill engagements, a baseline defense the fairy's improve that apply to all outfits, and just let the player wear whatever they want? You'd think they'd figure something like that out in a sequel. The Koroks were bad before but now they're worse and somehow less rewarding. And they are STILL total vibe killers just hovering loudly wherever you find them. Oh man. I haven't gotten to the worst part of this game yet. They shoe horned in Ultrahand (literally just for reddit clips), which is terrible by the way with weapons that don't work, building that's clunky, an battery system that punishes you for using the system, and parts that vanish because you had too much fun with them. Oh yeah, AND IT IS A TOTAL GRIND THROUGH THE MOST BORING AREA EVER TO GET THE MATERIAL FOR BUILDING. Speaking of which, in addition to making regular Hyrule worse they added copy pasted sky islands and a massively monolithic underground with literally nothing but rocks to grind. Why is everyone losing their minds over the Ultrahand stuff? Yeah the builds look cool but they're not fun to play, they hardly even move let alone do damage. They're all flash with no utility. The last game had a way better vehicle they stole from the player. That's how Tears of the Kingdom feels. It feels like a cheap knockoff of Breath of the Wild where they steal something good and replace it with something worse. They steal Link's powers, replace them with worse copies of the same thing. They steal the Champions make them faceless non characters who literally repeat the same story at you. They stole Link's house and gave it to Zelda even though she is literally a Princess (she should be Queen as her parents are dead) and could have one built easily (don't you dare give me that Zelda-Link live together nonsense, nobody recognizes Link, he doesn't live there, Bolson doesn't even recognize him, he literally built the house). And speaking of Zelda, the story is so bad. They squander the Zonite, the last game, Ganondorf, Zelda, and basically all of the lore. You don't hear anything ever from Raryu, not a pep, and his Sister is equally as uninteresting despite her literally being a Mech (slow as shit, does no damage by the way, just like every thing else the Zonai make). Oh man, the reveal of the light dragon was so good, getting the sword was awesome in a somber reflective way, and the fight with Ganon, but that's literally it. And they undercut the entire story and Zelda's sacrifice to have her return to being a human allowing the status quo to be restored and for nothing to ever happen. Fuck this game. I thought it was stupid to say at first but I see now it was DLC, I don't know why I ever invested a single thought into the story when it's so obvious Nintendo doesn't care. I feel like such a moron for even playing it, let alone paying 70$ for it. And it drives me crazy to see people singing its praises when it's a shallow, vapid, frustrating mess of a game. It's all flash, no substance, and it has completely killed my interest in Zelda. Easy 2/10, Dog Shit Video Game.

What game should I buy for my switch (I only have Totk, FC 24, and Fortnite)

I'm happy loads of people enjoy TOTK so much and see it as one of the best, but personally as someone who played BOTW, take away the building stuff and the game...isn't really that different or special from BOTW. I feel like there's always so much emphasis placed on the building whenever someone talks about the game, but I'm not good at it myself, only doing very basic stuff so it was never a draw for me. Seeing it take place in the same world and map as BOTW I gave it the benefit of the doubt hoping that it would change a lot of the world and yet for a direct sequel it frustratingly refuses to acknowledge much about the first game. Most NPCs don't even recognize you as Link, there's no explanation behind why all the Sheikah tech disappeared, the story feels weirdly fragmented and the whole secret stone thing got old really fast. On top of that, fuse is a great idea but it's a UI nightmare, you can't pre fuse anything... I like TOTK, ascend is amazing for exploration, recall and ultra hand allow for so much creativity even without complex building, but it doesn't feel "special" like BOTW did. TOTK has much improved shrine challenges and sidequests but it completely lacks the atmosphere that made BOTW so special to me. The story of BOTW with Link having to rediscover his memories and help the champion spirits obtain peace and have that rematch against calamity Ganon felt so much more personal seeing the progress you made. Little touches like guardian wreckage and weapons rusted from 100 years ago made the world feel alive despite being so empty. BOTW had a great sense of nature taking over after the apocalypse, and while I appreciate TOTK's much improved shrines, quests, and abilities, losing that atmosphere combined with underwhelming sky and depths make the game lower for me.

Yugioh stairway to the destined duel was def my GOTY for 2023.

My favorite game from this year was Final Fantasy XVI. This game is phenomenal, and I never got bored of it. I did two 100% runs of this game, and I loved it all the way through. The voice acting and story are (in my opinion) some of the best we have seen in modern gaming.

Your first Bethesda game? If you end up liking them, I envy you. I always wish I could erase Morrowind from my brain and play fresh.

You should definitely try the RE4 remake. It keeps a lot of the best elements of the original with amazing gameplay and beautiful graphics

Imo Pikmin 4 is just a slightly above average game, but nowhere near close the best game of the year or the best in the series

super mario rpg was never good and neither is the remake. Marvels spider Man 2 looks cool and would probably be my game of the year if i had a PS5. (I don't play much current games) (I haven't played the game, i just wanted to see how mad people get.)
