That's why I'm sceptical that it's about reducing bloat like they said. I think it's more that the culled Sigmarines are juuust old enough that they aren't generating "oooh shiny" FOMO dollars anymore. When they culled some Firstborn in the same way recently, they pretty much admitted in the same breath that it's so they can be replaced with more Marine stuff, so yeah.

They'll 100% end up replacing all the stuff they removed in two or three years time. You chose to collect the bloat faction (SC in AoS, marines in 40k) knowing full well that GW has a proven track record of cutting things rather than fixing the problems they cause (See the entirety of Fantasy). So my issue with SCE culling is not the models, I played this army for 6 or 7 years and own everything in their model range except new Ionus, latest UW band and Questor Soulsworn unit, they can cut the production, I wouldn't care. What I do care about is having tournament valid rules for my models, and rules that don't mess up my old models. New Liberator wascroll was a spit on the grave of the old unit, for 8 years SCE players built their kits with squad leaders taking special weapons because they had an extra attack with it. And now you can't do that anymore, well great, how do I keep track of where my squad leader is? (By buying a new kit, of course)(I'll get all the new shit from recasters, dear GW.) Another issue is bad communication, I expect GW to just return the Sacrosanct Chamber, not reforge it, so I want to know when. I want to know which culled models will get a 1 to 1 replacement before I get the news about culling. And worst of all, Beastmen and Savage Orks, GW just should not move an army between 2 systems on a whim, if they brought it to AoS, it should stay in AoS.

I agree with the rest, but I still don't like BoC getting squatted from AoS being blown off as "Just play fantasy and buy all these new books, materials and bases - again". If your a long time BoC player, that's twice in once decade you've been told to switch to a new game and adjust. Even worse, the NEW BoC battletome set up several events and new characters (like Morghur potentially becoming a chaos god), with everything pointing to a much needed refresh - all for it to be dumped in the trash. GW aren't doing this to "cull bloat". They're doing it so people can't use one army for two games - a "mistake" they've learned from Chaos Deamons.

You could easily reduce the Phobos squads (Reivers, Infiltrators and Incursors) into a single kit and at least one less datasheet. Hellblasters and Infernus: One kit, one datasheet with variant squad rules based on equipment. You could squash a good third or quarter of the infantry range by consolidating kits and rules. Yeah, I totally get that it sucks for people who bought into this stuff, especially the stuff that was newer. It's not consumer-friendly by any means, and the people who are pissed off are justified. Some of those Warcry warbands aren't even two years old. Still, it's 100% an issue of GW producing too much shit, which should've been avoided in the first place, but you can't turn back the clock, so this is the necessary solution. It's clearly less about reducing bloat though, and more about giving them room to re-bloat with newer stuff, instead of sitting back and getting less FOMO sales. And then we'll see another culling in a few years' time, wash, rinse, repeat.

I don't get why you didn't read the article and do a dash of research bruv. It says Beasts of Chaos i.e. Beastmen are going to Old World, we all assumed that. But the Savage Orcs, according to GW's staff on their socials, are BEING SCRAPPED entirely: they're not moving to Old World despite Savage Orcs being an upgrade and the Armies Book. As for the Skaven they're not going to Old World: nothing is being moved to Old World via Skaven, GW want to remove the connection between Fantasy Battles and Skaven in order to try and put AoS on a pedestal. They want Old World to fail and so there's no way Skaven are going to be a faction given how popular Skaven are. Most of those Stormcast are just getting new kits so it's not really a culling. Some of the single characters are going + a few Underworld stormcast kits, well that's expected. GW always retire older character models when they replace them with newer models as tech improves. The Warcry kits - now keep in mind 80% of GW's customers are painters and I believe these kits sold quite well until they raised the price to £35 and put them as webstore only - the Warcry kits should have remained IN BLOOMING WARCRY. I legit don't grasp why they don't just keep those Warcry kits - which are beloved by painters - as the main Warcry catalogue, after all it's just a 10 vs 10 ish skirmish game after all.

Even when it's necessary for the health of the game. Frankly, I don't think Imperial Knights should exist as their own army, but try telling that to people who've spent thousands on their collections. I'm sure they'd disagree. Avoiding the need for things like this requires careful forethought and planning. So, naturally, it's going to keep happening.

All of them seemed to have some sort of fitment problem. Especially all the push fit models. I also like their willingness to redue such recent kits. Honestly, the Primaris could use a similar treatment. please do the same for primaris GW, the infernus squad and primaris assault squad should be options for the intercessors. balistus/brutalis dread? redemptor options. what even is the difference between infiltrators and incursors? repulsor executioner should be an option, all the gladiator varients should be options. many more examples tbh and even some oldmarine units should be consolidated.

What ALOT of you non-AOS players don't realize is that it feels like 3 factions have been canned for AOS as the sacrosanct chamber plays different than the usual SCE setup with lots of magic and being able to teleport and switch between offense and defense buffs for your basic troops. Best way I can describe it for 40k player is like if they removed the grey knights or dark angels from the spacemarines. Doesn't help that for alot of people they're beginning army or only army was just 2K~3K points of Sacrosanct chamber that came in the souls wars box which released during the pandemic. And these models are only six years old which really came as a shock, they really should have focused more on cutting down the ridiculous amount of heroes and consolidate the war scrolls. which easily could have been done. Beasts at least will go to old world but I know many who zero interest in that game and looked forward to playing them in AOS, some are annoyed because they wanted to play both and now are forced into one. Kinda funny that in 10 years beast players have had their faction wiped twice just to be told to rebase it for a different game. Bonesplittaz are just gone no old world back up just gone. GW should really let the SCE take a rest from the spotlight next eddition and let someone else be slotted for the start box. But I doubt it, willing to bet that 5th they will bring back resculpted sacrosanct chamber.

Much prefer Beasts in AoS to TOW/Fantasy. Their fluff in AoS just seems to much more interesting and consequential, and with more room to breathe than solely being 'forest murdergoats who the chaos gods don't care about'. I still like the idea of having a go at converting up some of the Varanfray beasts from the 3rd edition book at some point.

@@joshwenn989 Exactly! Beastmen in old fantasy: just living in the forest. They just NPC race, lubricant for heroic swords. Every Imperial Captain killed 5-10 Beastlords by age 15. Beastmen in AoS: the embodiment of anarchy and rejection of the Chaos Gods (no Malal needed)! Morgur God of Deevolution. The plague turns people into beastmen simply through rumors.

On the whole Excel sheet: have you considered giving inbuilt rules a flat percentage discount? Basically, a model having the choice to pick up a usr or special weapon should be a little more expensive as they can pick more powerful combinations than a model that can not be changed. Making models with fixed rules and loadout slightly cheaper by comparison could offset the opportunity cost of more choice.

I don't think GW understands how popular fantasy is. I played my 1st 2 games last Friday, and the venue was packed. About a quarter were fantasy with the other quarters being sigmar, 40k and cards. I wouldn't be surprised if the cull is to support old world production. Old world may eclipse sigmar in the next year.

They should really be making base kits with upgrade sprues. You need an intercessor kit and a heavy intercessor kit and then you just have either upgrade kits or separate kits for each which have the same body sprue and a different weapon/decoration upgrade sprue in the box. It would solve a lot of production issues for them.

This is a completely made in-house problem where their design-"philosophy" clashes with both their logistics and costumer wishes. i.e. Space Marines always were the largest range but with the Primaris kits each single Firstborn box bloomed into three to five different new kits because they wanted to get rid of options and modular kits. But the problem is that SM players want the modularity and options. GW's solution was releasing different kits for each option which boosted sales but now leaves them with the issue of even worse range bloat. You could easily squash the range by releasing combined boxes and datasheets without major disruptions to the fan base. But that would mean changing their design-"philosophy" and in effect admitting they made a mistake - and you can't have that!

What you're advising GW, w. not introducing bloat and fomo releases, is to make less money 🤣, and ya know how it goes w. large companies! 😁 I also don't really understand the mentioned bloat problem. Slow, gradual nerfs to, uhh, older miniatures achieves the same thing as straight cutting and is less PR-intensive, so to say. While hilarious, what would it hurt if, for example, GW kept dragging 1-wound squat marines through future editions? I guess I just don't get tabletop design in general...

It's fine to agree with them saying that the range is full of bloat regarding the Warcry and Sigmarine figs. The real (and underlying problem) is that they're likely to just refill that bloat with new Malibu Signmarine with new hat models in their typical FOMO release schedule over the next two to three years before they want to do it all over again always at the detriment of the customer. I'm OK with them not selling the models but rather what I think is more worriesome is them not having a permanent set of rules even if generic or "count as" for the customers to use for models that are single digit years old at the most.

The purge from GW happens with everything(at this point only newer or ignorant players are shocked), normally it is slow and in small increments so you don't notice, but now with all these game systems that GW needs to support, they have to do a more aggressive approach. Older editions never die(your books are still yours), you can still go back and play those, if you want to play with newer models, well, it's just a matter of organization. If Armies Projects or IX Age did, all communities can do it, all you need is stats to play with a miniature. Now if you are a Tournament player... Welcome to Magic The Gathering the miniatures game. And who still buys from GW, they don't care for customers, it's better to 3d print at this point, you wouldn't have to pay an arm and a leg to play or paint anything.

The interesting thing about Stormcast is how they've been mostly rejected by the greater AoS community. They of course have their players, but their popularity is on par if not below all the other factions. In a setting with dinosaur riding lizards, delusional flesh eating ghouls, undersea elves that bring the ocean with them, dwarven pirate/merchants piloting fleets of steampunk-esque airships, fleshed out chaos factions, and all rhe other wild and wacky stuff; why would you want to be a bunch of bland knights with screaming helmets? Hell, the new cities line screams character and theme, far more evocative and appealing than the Stormcast.

7:10 So why not just say that? I understand fomo and stuff, but when you're invalidating half the range, including models which are 1 year old, you're really f-ing over everyone that purchased your product. If the plan is to make a return of these kits, with simply changed bases, you'd want people to know their hard-earned money wasn't entirely wasted on kits they won't be able to use.
