BO2 is actually a great game and the only Call of Duty after Cod 4 to really try something new and I think they succeeded in that goal pretty well and deserve respect. This game is just as good as, say the new Battlefields, only different and that's why I like it. Unlike most of the players, I haven't played every single cod that has been released. I played cod 4 and tried mw2 but that's about it. Aside from those two I've been a Battlefield player for years and am starting to grow tired of that formula so this is a nice change of pace. I've had great fun playing this one so far and, at least to me, the purpose of gaming is to have a little fun to kill boredom.
I agree zombies is great because it is a basic horde mode where all your enemies are bullet sponges. Let's say that black ops two was a three course meal. Course one (the campaign) was a Caesar salad and its special addition was grilled chicken. Course 2 (multiplayer) is pizza and its special addition is toppings. Course three (zombies) is brownie cake. Could it be better without an addition? Yes. Is it still awesome without it. Hell yeah! This tangent probably makes mo sense.
I feel kinda bad for this game. By the time this game was released, CoD fatigue was really starting to sink in, which is a shame because this is definitely the most unique and surprisingly different CoD game since CoD 4, but with CoD 4 and WaW being hacked to death, this is probably the best CoD game out right now. I mean, if you are gonna complain about spawns and balance, then you must really despise every other recent entry in the series cause this is the most well balanced CoD in a while, and the spawns arent that bad unless the enemy controls every flag in domination, an experience that is even worse in the Battlefield games than it is here...
I just hate when COD gets so so so much hate but battlefield and halo don't such as halo 4 short campaign same multiplayer but no hate battlefield just has a lackluster campaign with the best but the same multiplayer all the time they need new game modes and some map variation like oh a destroyed city and well a destroyed island which is why I prefer COD more because I have more fun in multiplayer zombies to me is fun as hell campaign I like too all round I like COD just gets too much hate
Believe me, some of those guns have some serious recoil. Particular guns like the type 25 have low recoil but the rest can really kick pretty hard if you don't use the right perks and attachments.
Personally I would go like this: Pro: Zombies Innovative campaign Co-operative Nice gamemodes Good to see old characters again Cons: Immatury community Overpriced game and DLC Most likely lack of growth/customer support/good updates Bad matchmaking system Gun sounds are not the best; either not that well or from previous CoD Modern era again (something different would be nice). Somewhat unbalanced weaponry It seems to have potential for me, but still not what CoD is used to be.
The graphics are upgraded by a lot(at least on PC, if you play on console you have only yourself to blame), the sound effects are changed and the explosions actually sounded more like actual explosions than those in BF3(widely regarded as the game with best sound design in the industry). Also, the maps aren't large enough to implement bullet drop as it would require mork work than it would be worth. There is recoil, but BF3/RO2 recoil is far from realistic; you play as a soldier, not a child.
2:15 "Although sometimes the feeling that you've done it all before creeps in and takes some of the wind out of your sails". Gamespot's way of saying it is "more of the same". I was expecting them to bullshit their way through this review and make the game sound "fresh, new and completely original"
if your going down that route, MW1 was the best CoD as it established the MMS genre on the mainstream market, with the whole of the series following on from that. Both sides have their own edges and flaws, but retain the main from when they were both the same company. For what it's worth, Black Ops has innovated the series (thanks Treyarch) whilst MW has refined what it already had
For singleplayer I would say the Bioshock series, Half Life 2 and episodes, the Desu Ex series, Metroid Prime, the Halo trilogy and spin offs, System Shock 2,far Cry 1, 2 and 3, the first Crysis and so on. Multiplayer: Counter Strike: Global Offensive, BF2, BF:BC, Rainbow Six 3 and Vegas, Team fortress 2, Halo 2/3, Quake 3 Arena, Unreal Turnament, Tribes, Planetside 2 or Left4Dead and Borderlnds for a more coop experience. May even Far Cry 3 if you like map editors and a bit crazier worlds.
I agree. The only reason why I like cod is because personally, I like the fast paced gameplay and I like the customization. I would much prefer Unreal tournament but it lacks the customization.
Thing I like the most about Black Ops 2: It's ACTUALLY TRYING to be different. In its story, setting, gameplay variety - God forbid a long-living franchise try something new. Modern Warfare has gotten stale, and it'll spoil by the time they release MW6, but we can all give Treyarch some credit for taking a different approach!
I never said I played CoD or didn't play CoD. Hating on the game is pointless though, especially if you consider to be Killzone to be in a completely different league. Btw, I think the Killzone games are great too. I even got a platinum in the third one because I liked it so much. Feel free to check my steam profile though, I really don't own any CoD game. Black Ops II will most likely be my first on there.
I stopped buying CoD when I realized it wasn't going anywhere or really bringing anything new. They could have at least changed the knife slice to a full combat takedown or something by now. The amount of differences they've made since CoD 4 could have been added with a simple map pack. Guns, perks and maps are the only major difference. I hear that they're going to be using the new Unreal Engine 4 system for MW4 but to be honest I doubt that would stop them making exactly the same game.
im not complaining because it has the highest sales no that means nothing to me...activision is ruining cod by over flooding the market with them and not allowing the dev to actually do something different, being confined to a 2 year deadline is not at all enough time to truly make a new game... halo has actually evolved throughout its history in many different ways while still retaining its core.. and street fighter has also changed rather drastically throughout the years..
He wasn't starting an arguement and I agree with him he has a dam good point. He justified what he said and he does have a strong background to what he's saying. I mean don't know anyone who is old enough to have played all the CoD games and still thinks they're good games, because really they're not terrible but they're nothing special you can swap out the disc with medal of honor and you probably wouldn't notice much difference. So I agree by now it should be about maybe 6/10.
Well, in the zombie side of the game the small map size makes up for it in numbers. We have 4 maps (5 if you count nuketown zombies) and 3 game modes and the custom game editior plus theater. Compared to 2 medium sized maps in BO1. For me zombies lies in the dlc. The starting point is just a taste of what to come. But I am glad zombies finally get so much support now.
I once read a review of Wolfenstein and the critic complained that "barrels were too conveniently placed everywhere" .........let that sink in a little. WHAT FPS DOESN'T HAVE BARRELS EVERYWHERE?!
Take my word for it, I hated mw3 and felt very ripped off when I bought it. When I first saw the trailer for bo2 I wrote a comment on the video saying how crappy and repetitive the gameplay looks and how it's just a mess. My brother bought this game so I decided why not play it and so far I've been hooked. Trey arch did a very good job with this game, in my opinion best since cod 4
the only thing they need to do to make a good cod is make large, open, linear maps, so lag doesn't play a factor as much in gunfights and spawns as well

It is not the same game every year... The graphics may not change all that much,but everything else is new. The multiplayer unlocks is totally new. And the story is in the future and have multiple endings which it never had before. If you are going to complain that it is the same every year just look at Crysis 3. It looks exactly like the first one and olay like the first one...
Do you know the first thing about guns? Even assault rifles like the M14 have bullet drop after 100 metres or so. Sniper rifles have a much higher range , with bullet drop after 500m or so.
Im sure people that have bought every single call of duty would say it is repetitive, but for me,I think black ops 2 is pretty fun. MW3 was my first Call of Duty(I wanted to see what all the hype was about), and I hated it, I couldn't find any fun in it. But then i got this because my friend told me treyarch does CoD right, and boy was I impressed, major improvement over MW3.
True, but when certain people don't like the game instead of stating their opinion maturely, they go "This game sux... HALO 4!" or "cod needs to fucking die" or "GTA V". This is what most people do and it's ridiculous. You're right, people do deserve a say but it's a dick move when all you do is say stuff like that.
I personally hate it because of my experience with the community, the annual model it uses, it's lack of co-op (though that's changed recently?), the overpriced DLC, Elite Subscriptions (again, recently changed?) and lack of using the millions of dollars in revenue to research in a new game engine or even enhance their existing one. If you like it, that's fine. It just didn't sit well with me and I'm not about to drop yet another $60 on a COD game I know I won't like. I have 3 times already.
What pissed me off the most is these game reviewers will bash really good game for ridiculous reasons yet completely ignore the flaws of every CoD game.
I don't get why people are flipping out over this game, as well as throwing around all the negative reviews. Call of Duty has it's place in the video game world. You don't have to like it to respect it. Why can't we all relax people, it's just a video game? Rather than talk down call of duty why not go talk up the games you actually enjoy, whether it's battlefield, halo, or whatever?
BF3 allows for a large scale battle with more realistic gun mechanics, and the ablity to be your own air support as opposed to an almost godlike helicopter trying to kill you, it gives you the feeling of playing on battlefield instead of a sandbox sized arena shooter, (which in my opinion will always be better executed by unreal tournament anyways) In my opinion, i have more fun playing Battlefield 3 as opposed to COD, but that's just me, i find it kind of boring once you reach 1st prestige.
To be honest, this game is really great. It surprised so many people, especially the ones who were extremely disappointed with MW3 and wasn't really that excited for Black Ops 2. People do say that they don't change anything but they obviously do because it's not the SAME exact game. If they didn't change anything, then Black Ops 2 would be CoD 1 lol. I really hate how people like to come on a video about the game and comment it sucks. Really, if you don't like it, DON'T COMMENT! It's immature.
story is great, they gone a whole new direction with this. being able to change the story at key points. custom load outs in single player. game actualy looks good. long story, replay value. zombies is awsome (why i got the game) mutiplayer is nothing to wright home about, but it is pretty good. now i compleatly lost faith in CoD for the past few years BUT i fell happy i bought this one. they really give u alot of bang for your buck. best cod in years. as long as u dont just look at multiplayer
the battlefield seems alot more open concept and there are more chances of flanking and positions, unlike modernwarfare games where its hide, shoot whats in front of you, move up, most of the time
While the yearly CoDs are getting repetitive, there is no denying that it is still one of the best shooters out there. Nothing quite matches the precision and pace that Call of Duty offers, and for that you have to give Treyarch and Infinity Ward credit. Theres a reason why CoD consistently sells better than the games that you mentioned. Im not a huge fan of the CoD series myself, but you cant ignore the global phenomenon that Activision has masterfully created.
This honestly is one of the best games I have played, the campaign was adrenline pumping, and I was on the edge of my seat going insane over decisions that would change the outcome of the campaign, along with the new amazing zombies and fun competitive multiplayer.
What I think is funny is how people hate CoD for being repetitive, when if you think about a game like Battlefield 3, what is different from Bad Company 2? New guns, maps, and vehicles. Not much else. I love Battlefield, but people need to realise that CoD isn't the only game to repeat.
It's also funny how people keep complaining about how COD is the same. But when Treyarch actually starts making changes, people complain that BOII isn't like COD anymore. And now people are complaining that COD is the same again? People really should be more consistent with their complaints.
I sadly, agree with his opinion on zombies. The environments are dull and repetitive. And if you look at each map alone, they are really small. I hope for the DLC that they will go back to making WaW/Black Ops style zombie maps that are more focused, and have very unique settings and even change up enemy types or add bosses.

id give it a 10/10, the zombies is amazing and tranziut and the bus give it a really epic change, campaign is well planned out , fun ,excitiing to play out, decisions you make change the end cutscene of the game. the challenges and decisions make you want to go back and try something differant, the multiplayer mapa are very varied, they offer lots of colour and lots of cqb and long range combat, the pick 10 system allows you to bend the rules of an average cod. dont blame the game for campers
I'm going to be honest, this is hands down the best COD of the last 4 games (it should be, right?). I'm a Battlefield fanboy, because I've not seen much substance in the last few CODs. I loved MW2 for a while, but of course, it got tiring. (I guess anything will if you play it long enough. I had moved to Bad Company 2, then BF3. In Black Ops 2, everything feels balanced and everything feels like it works. Graphics could be better to keep up visually with others, but overall, quite a good game.
What I can't understand is how MW3 got better scores than BO2 when it was EXACTLY the same shit we saw in MW2. At least Treyarch tried something different...
Zombies is the only reason to buy the game for me. Im not a fan of any other multiplayer shooter either, its just plain shooting other people, no matter how realistic it is
mw2 was pretty good you gotta admit that especially graphics wise it's the 2nd only cod that had graphics up to date with it's time of realease and cod 4 was actually the best looking game of that time (in my opinion).
Seriously? You do realize that we're not all fanboys, right? Heck, I bought Black Ops 2 but that doesn't mean I'm devoted to it. My favorite game for the past year has been Skyrim, and it still is, but I'm willing to play almost anything. Besides, Treyarch fixed most of the issues that plagued previous CoDs, so It's a definite improvement over MW3(anything is better than MW3, even Kinect star wars is better than MW3). The engine does need replacing though, 7 years is too old.
Well to be honestly, any FIRST PERSON game is limited so there is not much improvement you can show in these titles.Im a 3rd person gamer myself. But you can only change so little in first person games, expecially shooters, from year to year. With that said, i think BO2 did a great job adding extra content and slight touch ups for the game. Thats about all i can demand from a 1st person game
Exactly. People like him are the ones who just follow the crowd and like to yell at people for buying a game. Black Ops 2 does NOT get a Zero out of 10. Yes it may not change much, but when you play it, those little changes can feel like drastic changes for the game and for your experience. I like the way they were heading with this game, especially campaign wise and if they keep it up, the game will improve year by year. And tell me, what do you expect to happen in a years time?
I completely disagree. Black Ops 2 is a breath of fresh air. It's way better than the previous Call of Duty games. It's worth a lot more than a gamespot given 8. I've bought it and played it.
What isn't new about Black Ops 2, New Campaign, new guns, how you play the game is new, and zombies got new stuff. I was expecting something new and i got it. Anyone who says that cod is the same every year is stupid and just mad that it is doing so well.
Black ops 2 was to me a cool game. It offers choice in its story mode which i really liked. Black ops 2 is a great game and people should respect people who like the game, I mean no one should hate on other people just for liking it. Its a nice addition to the long and very good series.
I wasn't hating on it for once second. I haven't played it because I know what to expect, the same thing as last year. I don't bother with games when they're made only for money, I like things with substance and passion. Same with films and music, if something's a half-hearted attempt at making something simply for a profit, I'm not interested. I apologise if I prefer games like Portal2 and my opinion bothers you.
don't hate on me, guys, but i personally think that this game should get, at the very least, and 9.0 because it does something called innovating (a word not often used the CoD vocabulary) and it is better than mw3 by far (which got 8.5)
No it's a good review. I played Black Ops 2. It's actually a fun game. You've likely not played the game if you say it's a repetitive game. Now, no doubt, it has the same core to it, but it's plenty of fun and I think I'll put more time into it. Then again, who am I to speak? That last CoD game I played was Modern Warfare 1! Oh well, enjoying the campaign, loved zombies (don't know why this guy hates it. So much better than before. It's like 10x the maps), and multiplier is as fun as ever.
Because whoever reviewed it had that opinion. If it was me I'd give it an 8.5-9/10 because it's very well written but it felt a little repetitive. I'd give the same score for Black Ops 2 campaign.
To all those complaining about Call of Duty being a "Cut and Paste" game: Hop off the bandwagon and look at some games that are TRULY cut and paste... Like EVERY SINGLE SPORTS GAME CREATED? Seriously though they add like one new thing each game, and you can never tell the difference between a seccessor and its predecessor. Seriously hop off.
I was surprised when he said they did not ,like zombies. I love zombies and think it is one of the better maps of all 12 maps. Also the design is like that because of the Moon Easter Egg in Black Ops 1. My only complaint about zombies is I enjoyed the original characters more. I feel like these people are very corny, but I can deal with it because they are following the zombies story. I would give Black Ops 2 9.5 coming from someone who hated MW3.
I just realized from the review of zombies that people want nothing more than a winning value rather than a survival value. People need to learn that difficulty is what made the true gamer, not glitches, graphics, and these "dynamo" perks.
I can also confirm the limited edition is worth it but unfortunately no one can get the limited edition anymore I dont think because its sold out, wwaaaaay sold out. Also no t just a great story, voice acting, visuals, dont forget forge and custom games like thats a game already right there
This review is way better than IGN's more critical. This is a good game with a lot of improvements compared to mw3 but essentially its the same game. i dont get why people hated mw3 look at games like fifa they almost never change but i dont hear people complain about that
The cycle goes as follows: buy it, finish the campaign in a heartbeat and forget about it the next day, go on to multiplayer, have fun for a couple of months, then it just becomes a grind until the next game comes out. Admit it, you all do it. I'm just waiting for this fps craze to boil over, military shooters have become so mass produced and boring. Well for me anyway...
Yeah, they dont sound super realistic and dont have the same quality as sounds from BF3 (like the echoing and what not), but the sounds themselves are very crisp and clear. But yeah, I love the score for this game!
Yes, that's what I mean, and people still end up saying that Black Ops 2 is "the same shit as the last game." I can see that MW3 was like that, but Black Ops 2 actually brought some new things and changes. I just don't get people.. Maybe it's the multiplayer, which I don't touch at all because I suck at it..
I rarely hear complaining kids or ragers (and if I do I can mute them), I put my match preferences to best so I get games with almost no lag, the game has the best balance I have seen in a CoD game (its just that most maps cater to smgs), and the graphics are great when you consider the fact that the game isnt trying to look super realistic. I dont see why so many people dislike the game as much as they do... like it or not, its a really well made game!
Treyarch does listen to their fans, maybe just the wrong ones. At least they're heading in the right direction though. MW2 was addicting yes, but Black Ops 2 was not only good cause of zombies. I'm guessing you haven't played campaign yet or jumped into the online experience with a bunch of friends. Lag compensation is the only thing that ruins the online.
If anything goes wrong blam infinityward not treyarch, because both black ops and waw had awesome campaigns and zombies. infinityward is up next so dont get ya hopes up.
I agree with most of what you said, except the weapon balancing. I thought the weapons were fairly balanced in Black Ops 2. Not being a fan boy or anything, just stating my opinion.
While I do enjoy this game, I believe that the most innovative Call of duty game was 4. There seems to have been little change in graphics, gameplay and design since than. (Although it does appear that Black Ops 2 has a different art style.)
Know, I'm not such a good fan of Call of Duty in general but I think it's a fair enough score and to be honest the one Call of Duty game I like is Black Ops, so why do people hate Call of Duty so much ? If you compare COD with BF3, you can compare both of them with every single other first (FPS)person shooter.
no doubt that Black Ops 2 is the best Call of Duty ever, it have amazing campaign with great story, chaotic and intense gameplay, good enough graphics and sound, and quite packed with contents. Just like Gamespot and IGN review said, the only minus thing is the Strike Force mission. The AI is so stupid, i end up killing most of the enemy. On normal it could be done but on higher level of difficulty, it can be frustrating.
