I agree with you 100% - best racing game that I have played for a long time. Surpasses F1 2011 in every department, and considering I lost several hours of my lifetime glued to that game over the past 12 months - the fact that they have improved it even further is a definite reason to celebrate :)
Been playing the game for a couple of days now and i'm loving it more than 2011. Sure, i liked the paddock menus more and a few other things but i think the game is better where it counts...on the track, racing. It looks better(not a lot but still), it handles better(and i'm playing on a controller), the AI is better...i don't know, maybe it isn't worth the full price and there's still a lot of things they can add to the experience but overall it's a great racing game. I give it an 8.
2011 has the best car handling, 2010 most realistic tyre wear, and 2012 best graphics and sound. Hopefully 2013 is a combination of the three. I find them better on 360 than ps3. Though it could just be that my Madcatz wheel is better than my Gamestop wheel.
Just the all round atmosphere and excitement of race day , more realistic damage and spectacular crashes , and a little more than great drive well done for winning a race , a trophy presentation with champagne spraying and national anthems etc . The on track aspects are phenomenal and with just a little polish elsewhere we fans could have something truly special to look forward to.
September - October is the best time to sell games, because that is why most of the different sporting seasons start and when the summer ends. Fewer people play sport games during the summer (i.e. when the F1 season would start).
I know, I know that there is a lot that Codies can't know by that stage, but their license, at least in 2010, means that they cannot include changes to the cars bodies or liveries post round 6 (Monaco), that's pretty much early season. EA Sports manage to get their games out near the start of each football season, with far more teams and players.
I agree. I love that Kimi is back but it's all about career mode anyway so i might as well continue my F1 2011 career with my driver called Kimi Raikkonen. The regulations haven't changed that much either. Will probably get F1 2013 if it's another step forward.
You can destroy a car, there is slip stream and DRS and you don't automatically get slowed down on corners unless you go off track onto gravel (which is realistic). If you can't destroy your car and you get slowed down automatically you must've picked the option 'I'm new to the game...' or whatever when you started. This gives you braking assist, no damage, full traction ect... To sort this out just go to simulation settings or driving settings and altar the assists.
I can tell that a person who is into this sport would love this game just by watching it, which shows that the game is definitely good. I'm not interested slightly in the because I'm not a fan of the sport or racing games in general. But like I said the game seems to give a fun experience to fans of the game, which even being someone who is not interested can clearly see that. Good job from the dev's.
I think it's the water lifted by the car in front of him. Not because it's not raining in a tunnel that the track is dry... When it's raining and I go into a tunnel, the road is wet.
Fair point on the celebrations but at least having the option to see them would be nice ,they could just include a large celebration at the end of the season for winning the world title. They should also offer some reward for winning a race , ex, unlock a highlight vid of a classic race at that circuit etc, also a managers mode ie create a team where you are given a set amount of money and have to develop your own team , it,s just in danger of becoming a little sameo sameo imo.
2012 is different though. The mechanics are vastly improved and the AI actually respond and make mistakes under pressure! The rules actually work and don't only penalize the player. plus the dynamic weather is a great addition. There are more modes that keep you entertained for long. There are parts that do dissapoint me such as the loss of parc ferme. I wished they would add more depth to your driver like custom helmets/shoes. I was really hoping they would add the celebration and champagne!
They can't release it any earlier because they need to model all the cars which takes a lot of time considering they have to get the models of cars, drivers and tyres exact along with the characteristics of each car, driver and tyres. Also most of these details can't be fully discovered in enough depth to be implemented into the game until at least the third or fourth race of the season.
i feel that kore features couldve been added to vary the game more, maybe scenarios from the past that happened in real life, hamilton getting past fith place on the last lap in the older car or something. id love to see the ability to unlock 'legends' cars or something like sennas honda or mclaren, schumachers benneton, or the tyrrell 6 wheeler :P
im a big fan of 2011, but the biggest short coming i felt in that game was the vagueness of the steering while racing online. if anyone feels the same about that or knows the new game is improved in this area don't hesitate to comment
what an awesome game, graphics fantastic and carrer very exciting. in carrer im with marrusia and enjoy batteling it out for a point or two, then i moved to torro rosso who had kers were brilliant and won 1 race, all races were on professional!
probably, but you'd expect that the steering wheel actually had some weight to it, as of right now, when I turn the steering wheel it feels like the steering wheel is in the air, there's just no feedback from the actual tire and the surface you're driving on, I'd assume this is only an issue with the Driving Force GT, but I guess I don't have any experience with any other steering wheels.
they should have a legends mode where you have challenges like prost v senna and get to race as legends like juan manuel fangio. I think it would be cool if there was a challenge like the 1991 brazillian Grand Prix where you have to hold on to the race in 6th gear haha.
Codemasters have spoken about the damage model many times - the FIA license restricts them from showing F1 cars being broken up on-track. It's something similar to why Gran Turismo never had damage in their games for years... the license just won't allow them to do that. It's not their fault, go back to the likes of Toca 2 on the original Playstation and PC (for example) where they had extremely detailed damage models even back then. The F1 license just won't allow it with F1 games.
gp2 & 3 - better graphics - Test driver modes - classic grand prix modes/ cars - challenge mode - a career mode where in-game drivers switch between teams. I do like these games, i just feel they should put a bit more effort into the campaign mode. For 35/ 40 quid, i think they could put a bit more work into R&D for 2013. Don't want it to end up like the FIFA franchise where the developers idea of improving the game is actually taking features out of the game
Yes 2010 is good for a newcomer, though you will need to learn some of the rules on the fly. But with no DRS or KERS at the time its slightly less complicated to have a good race strategy as it is now.
For a game I don't really feel that the celebration is necessary. Take Mario kart 64 for example. You watched the ceremony at the end the first time then you just skipped it. If they did implement it, it would be the same ceremony with the same animations, just with a different driver and it would become bland very quickly. I do agree however with damage as that does need a realistic upgrade.
I also noticed when i blow an engine, i see that 7th gear jumps to 1st following an engine blow in the replays. People in the forums said usually happens after using a flashback
i usually download games before i buy them. Just to try them. I did the same with this one BUT i played it for 10 minutes and then immediatly bought it. One race and your hooked!!! Buy this game! it's brilliant!
They cant because f1 is so secret they release the design models a few weeks before the season starts so codemasters then develop what the cars look, feel and drive like
No, they should bring the game out in November at the end of the season, then include any drivers that were temporary (Jerome D'Ambrosio for example) like Psygnosis did in 1996 when they made the 1995 game.
Good points, I agree actually, but I thought FIFA do individualised mo-cap for celebrations, and that players have different physiques and faces etc, and there are always far more players than F1 cars, that was really my point
i thought that at first too, but its not driving styles fault. Its cleary a bug, go to the codemasters forum. People been complaining about this, some even blowed engine using auto gears. This only happens to me during FP or qualifying, never in races.
As a new F1, I am learning a lot of things from this game, mostly track layouts. I am certainly having a MASSIVE amount of fun with this game. :D Greetings from the U.S. And go Hamilton!
I liked the f1 2011 career mode as there was more celebrations if u won eg/the press conference, podium celebrations and so on...I miss the lap option to be placed at a lower lap count as I don't really want to spent 15-25 mins trying to complete a race this game would be a 7.9 /10 in my book
Although I do agree with the fact that its more arcade than simulator I cant agree on the no slipstream. How else are you meant to over take someone. Actually I think the drag is the only thing they got +- realistic in this. Automatic slowdown? Im assuming your talking about Auto-Break? You can turn that off in assists. Its for the new players who never played F1 before. And well you can destroy the car but well just the wheels come off hehe.
I don't think there's been enough progress to warrant buying this game. Can you control the pace when the safety car goes in/ does the safety car come out more than once in five seasons worth of gameplay? Also, what's this I hear about tyre wear (the most talked about factor of F1) - apparently it doesn't exist in races below 100%?
I played and beat both former games in the series on pc. The graphics were amazing and the controls were tight. Gameplay was great...but could have used some kind of mode where you can create your own team...budget...car upgrades etc. Im not a big fan of just...playing some guy. If the game had a create a team/player mode...then it would be a great game.
It's an engine issue, the other cars aren't physically there only simulated in the background (a lot of games do this, but also physically show the cars (but their performance etc. isn't the same as if you were following them) its a limitation of the hardware as not physically animating the other cars when they're not there optimises the game and allows it to actually run on a xbox. Next gen should get rid of this, as I'd expect a new Ego engine then as well.
hopefully the crash damage isnt exactly the same like the past two games, when i wreck i want shrapnel everywhere not just my front wing dissapperaing and my wheels falling off
Wow this game is awesome! I know some may not agree with me but the game is a huge step up from 2011. Also the ai is so much harder than last year. In 2011 you could win easily on legend with a Sauber or toro Rosso and now it is more realistic.
Well what they COULD add is a classic championships mode where you're in the old F1 cars. That would be pretty cool. Hey it's just an idea. You asked and I answered.
And as Progin92 said, there are pretty strict possiblities for a change. It is based on real life sport, only major changes that they can make that I can think of are in graphics or in some other gamemodes. So there's whole not of lot they could add or change. I do agree that new games from same gameseries shouldn't be released every year or as often as they are released now and have been totally ruined because of this. For example games like COD, BF, Skate and Need For Speed.
I agree, it's not a bad game in any way, it was awesome when Codemasters totally remade and reincarnated F1 racing, but this is just stupid, same game every year. They should put more work into making GRID 2
I'm not sure about PS3, perhaps it has the right stick throttle and brake controls. Personally I favor the xbox 360 controls. In terms of gameplay and graphics I think the differences are minimal.
And damage mechanics are great.. U see bits of carbon fibre fly into the air on impact and AI apponents make mistakes and run off track unlike most other racing games where computer is perfect
Developing a game doesn't take a couple of weeks, it takes a lot of months, take Project CARS for example, they first announced it in Mid 2011 and they are not planning a release until late 2013, that's 2 years, over double the time Codemasters had to develop F1 2012 and its still not really finished, there's still bugs in the game, they haven't even had time to implement a new HUD. So, there is no way Codemasters could have released the game any earlier as the game is barely finished as it is.
Hey only you can answer that but I think F1 is that type of game that last longer and you have online multiplayer that is fun. But it all comes down to what you want really, some times we want racing other times more action/adventure. I heard Tomb Raider is great I bought it off steam now when it was really cheap but this game is also cheap so I might buy it also. I just hope people are still playing it online. Good luck with your decision hope you enjoy whatever you get.
Goood review but the game disappoints as they still have not included a part where you can help evolve the set up of the car over the FP's and qualy ! this coupled with the in ability to participate in off track activites is kinda sucky !
Braking seems alot tougher to me, idk why, also is there a setting on my racing wheel i can change so im not weaving about on the straights? Its taken me awhile to adjust to this gameas opposed to 2011, though i do love it! any help would be much appreciated!
Penalties are weird. I get penalties for getting bumped into from behind, or when the AI starts drifting and rams their butt into MY side when I make the turn. It's like the game blames almost any contact on the player, no matter who caused it.
