This is personally one of my favorite games of all time. The art style is beautiful and humorous, the gameplay is swift, and the boss fights are original and intense. Plus, there's so much to do! There's epic music levels that are unlocked after completing each world. Each level in the story mode gets "invaded" which unlocks speed running levels. There are fun weekly and daily challenges. Also, you can unlock all the levels from Rayman Origins!
To unlock the Origins levels, they have to appear on a lucky ticket. Each level (from both Origins and Legends) have lucky tickets that you can get if you collect enough lums. They're decently challenging to get. If you don't want to go through the extra effort of unlocking the Origin levels, I suggest just picking up Origins.
the "generous" checkpoints are actually annoying earlier in the game because you never die, you only restart sequence because you missed something and it always turns out there was a checkpoint between there and here. I would have preferred fewer of them.
Guh.. was this review written in 90's or something? And then that mix of some random song playing in the background while the game's own music plays at the same time.. This wasn't exactly a well done review..
Guys, he wasn't being "anti-Nintendo", he was being honest. The Murphy sections on Wii U take you out of the great platforming and turn the game into something you could find on the iPhone. I liked the Murphy sections on the Xbox because they added a new layer to the gameplay without making it a slow touch game.
Good, but I wish they didn't originally plan it as a WiiU exclusive. You can tell that half the levels were designed around touch screens and co-op. It can get frustrating on the other consoles, as your brain struggles with the inputs to control Rayman, and his sidekick, who has many different functions that can throw off your timing. Patience pays off, as you will eventually conquer it's challenges, but sometimes failure doesn't feel like your fault, because of it's design. That said, they did make the obvious touch screen controls rather playable on the PS3/360. It was a good quick fix, all in all. In more incompetent hands, the game would be unplayable. Overall, Origins is the better game, but this is still great fun, and the sheer amount of content for a game like this should be applauded.
Exactly. I never get where these scores come from. He doesn't mention a SINGLE negative thing about the ENTIRE game in a 5 minute review - all he does is praise it. So please, Gamespot, explain to us all why this got a 9.
I was going for 100 percent completion with this game. I did everything there was to do and then I got to the Murfy's touch levels. I encountered a level where I couldn't get Rayman to move no matter how much I tilted the switch so I had no choice but to give up. I would have given this game a 10/10 but the Murfy's touch levels bring it down to a 7/10.
They weren't always this way. Metroid Prime got a 9.7, Wind Waker 9.3, even ports like Super Mario World on GBA which got a 9.4. Now, they couldn't give a game on a Nintendo console a 9.0 to save their lives.
Why is that, because he didn't give The Last of Us 10 as everyone expected? He just gave his opinions that the game isn't what the advertisements told us it is.
I find it weird that the only game GameSpot review that got a 10.0 score ever is Super Mario Galaxy 2. Don't get me wrong, that was a well deserved score, but I don't know why Rayman Legends didn't get that same score. The game pretty much looks perfect.
Do not underestimate these games. I haven't played Legends yet but in order to finish Origins 100% took more than just a "kiddy" level gaming experience in platformers.
I think Gamespot are getting him to review a lot of games just to troll the people who, for some reason, were personally offended by his review of The Last of Us.
Yeah some of the Murphy stages can be frustrating at times especially when the AI misses a teensy and I hope they bring an update where you can control Murphy like in the other versions. But still, it's pretty ridiculous that Tom took a whole point because of the Murphy stages.
The fact that the video review was made using 360 footage instead of the Wii U version, which is the main/Original SKU for this title, says a lot. Those Murph levels look boring as fuck since all it is is "B...B....B......B......B"
a game could be totally flawless and still get a 9. 10's on gamespot are (usually) only reserved to games that revolutionize the genre like ocarina of time or go so far above expectation that there's nothing better that could be compared to it.
Unless you've got some sort of inflation fetish, that is not a 'creepy panty shot'. It's a mass of green and didn't even look like underwear when I played. The reviewer loved the game, but honestly that small complaint of his seemed unnecessary in this review.
Yet all he said about it is that is surprised him every time, surpassed his expectations, and was an amazing game, and correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't a perfect game one the surpasses all of your expectations? and I'm not saying it's the best game in the world, I'm just saying it's a perfect game, based on this review.
I was pretty happy with Tom McShea finally making a good review...until he had to give the Wii U version an 8 despite others saying it's the best version. Way to be shamelessly anti-Nintendo Gamespot.
Wii U you miss out on all of the murphy maps on the PS3 and xbox because they don't have the touch screen, i think it really gimps the game because it autoplays all of that stuff for you on ps360 so it makes the game way easier
So the music levels, Origins levels, bonus world, and daily challenges weren't enough variety for you? Besides you can't have sub-par gameplay and just let it slide for the sake of "variety".
Taking a whole point off in my mind is an insult to the game because that's far from a justified reason to remove it. Of course for me, that would been frustrating enough for me to consider it a glaring negative on the game. Something that could have easily been remodied by simply giving the option for a button activation - seeing as the code was already there for other platforms. But I didn't play the Wii U version, I play the PC version and it's hands down a 10/10 in my eyes. I love this game.
This score is actually still surprisingly low when you think about it. He said there is one very minor problem he has with the game, and that minor point somehow loses it a whole ten points off the perfect 100 (this obviously includes the fact that games get 0.1 to 0.9 points instead of just 1 to ten)
I'm not saying I don't like the idea because you're more likely to screw up. I said very clearly that I don't like the idea that you're forced to let Rayman run on auto-pilot. I don't like losing control of Rayman, NOT because it might be harder but because in that very instant, the game would start to feel like a mobile game to me. I understand everyone has their reasons for loving this fantastic game, I'm just glad I got the PC version instead seeing as Murphy isn't optional on the Wii U.
I really thought legends would be an entirely new game, since it took them so long to release. Well, it's not a 100% new game, they take many of origins parts and pieces, it's really sad, you pay full retail price for a game that should be an update or a dlc to origins. You do the exact same thing as in origins, with only a few new addons, new characters, but in all it feels no different from origins, in fact i rather prefer origins. They should have started from scratch. But hey its your money
It's probably the best version when you have someone else playing as Murphy, but when you're forced to let Rayman run on auto-pilot while you're forced to man Murphy, especially for as often as Murphy is needed.. and not give any sort of option to use a single button like you do in the Xbox, PS3, and PC versions.. it stands to reason that for many, those versions are better. Among those many is definitely me. Sorry to say.
He probaly mentioned it because he couldnt find a real reason to not give the game a 10/10. Also gamespots rating system is shit, diablo 1 has a 9.6, but diablo 2 got a 8.5 (LoD got 8.2)?
why the hell are the 10 wii-u owners whining about how that version wasn't mentioned? who the hell cares? it's actually the same...just a slightly lower resolution i'm guessing. i played the demo on PC and PS3.
He purposely underrates great games just to get hits on the site. Zelda SS 7.5/10 Ducktales 4.5/10 THE last of us 8.0/10, Simpsons arcade game 3.0/10. oh and he gave Hello kitty a 7.6
well after playing the demos on PS3 and 360 and the challenge pack on WiiU i think the WiiU version will be the best mainly because of the way you control murphy it's a lot more fun and interactive on the WiiU, also why no mention of this or the WiiU version in the review after all they showed both the PS3 and 360 version's or is the WiiU version getting it's own review because of all the extra stuff it has? (such as mario bros costumes)
Platformers are actually compareable to FPS in the sense that they both take a great deal of skill to Master. But yes, that guy is a jackass, People like him need to pop in some old school Castlevania or Megaman so they can get their asses handed to them and be humbled for a change.
"they" (its just this one guy that reviewed the game) gave it a 9, yet believed it deserves a 10. The reviewer sayd that he litterly only had one "flaw" and that was a "panty-shot" at barbaras death. So the reviewers review stated that he thinks the game is a 10, yet he gave it only a 9. Rating systems have always been shit, but if you have litterly no complaints about a game then it should be a 10, if you only got complaints about a game then its a 1.
