i think it has to do with the internal eye vs external eye. Thor is more aware for his standards but he might struggle still with unawareness because as a streamer because most of his material is internal like reading himself instead of others, which makes sense...streamer is a rather lonely task. And the funny thing about unawareness is, you are unaware.

This is potentially the most educational and transformative videos you've published on your channel. It might be more powerful the closer you are to the point of being ready for "prestige", but it is rare that we go this in depth and comprehensive on spirituality. I think this is because often in these conversations Dr.K speaks of Step 1-3 pretty often, as that is where a large amount of people are at. Here we started at step 4, and worked our way up to 7.

I first saw this with a guy who also had a remarkable level of shit-togetherness at an old job. He was a programmer at the company I was at and did it for funsies and "pocket money" (pocket money being a laughable term with the ton he made) because he was primarily the president or vice president of this microchip company that also made him quite a few pennies. He was also a hardcore bicyclist, the type to do like 55 mile rides and shit. When people would come to him for his expertise on an issue, which was often, they'd ask him a question, and he wouldn't even ask to think, he'd just fucking do it. He'd just sit there, maybe give a "hmm..." or a "let's see..." before looking off to the side or downwards or what have you, though none of those were a given. He'd just sit silently, for I'd say on average 10-15 seconds, sometimes substantially more, sometimes less and not a soul ever disrespected that - the closest would be to add like a quick extra detail right at the beginning of the thought process that would help. I had never seen that before and I found it hugely fascinating. The amount of power that he had and attention from others who focused so intently on his silence to await his response was incredible.
@jaydonnell
@jaydonnell 8 месяцев назад
He was holding it back, but the tiniest smile came out of Dr. K’s mouth at 53:09 after recognizing that Thor truly prioritized the conversation about the mental health of his community before anything else, even though Dr. K set up the other option as more appealing and Thor seemed very interested personally.

What I learned from this stream is that if you're starting something and are worried about failure, then instead start with something(s) very small which won't have the same stakes. You'll learn a lot, you'll have more confidence going into the bigger thing and it will help reframe the bigger thing as just one more thing.
@Entropy67
@Entropy67 8 месяцев назад
Key is reframing, if you can do that in any way that works you can do anything you want. I've felt that speed reading an entire series of books does that for me (takes a couple days though).
@MarkusLaumann
@MarkusLaumann 8 месяцев назад
Sometimes you'll hear a similar phrase of "fail small, fail fast". It's mainly about feedback loops. The more feedback you can get, the more chances you get to adjust your trajectory to hit your target. Aim for a closer target instead and work your way up to the distant target.
@Tennosoul
@Tennosoul 8 месяцев назад
The problem is not the failure but the all the failures that haunt you and the ego of you. If you can’t change the perception then you can’t follow thors guide you can’t be thor because you’re not thinking like him and processing failure like him
@simonhartley9158
@simonhartley9158 8 месяцев назад
@@Tennosoul Smaller works don't necessarily have the same success criteria and so are more difficult to "fail". Getting better at something through practice helps confidence and so even if you subsequently "fail", it might not sting as much or in the same way. By doing preparatory work your chance of failing also decreases. Even if you are still bad with dealing with the stick of failure, perhaps you can find the carrot of success more enticing. Everything is a process. Everything requires steps. You don't have to be Thor to be a bit better than you are now. The process can help change your thinking, so changing your thinking isn't a prerequisite.

Most of us based off of the nature of psychology, develop our character to not be what we disliked. It would be idiotic to choose to be what we hate. So naturally, yes but also we all are like that to some capacity. There are outliers but those are different reasons as to why. For ex, being abused makes them an abuser. Most of us refuse to even be near hurting someone through abuse.

It's very interesting to hear Dr. K give a lecture to a student who already understands the subject. Thor didn't have the same language that Dr. K had, but every time Dr. K explained a concept it felt like Thor acknowledged it as a concept he already understood. The first hour was for Thor to explain his life and Dr. K to understand. The next two hours was for Dr. K to explain new concepts to us. But I feel like, if the audience wasn't here, these two could've skipped the second half of this video and immediately jump to the next level. They just had to slow down to make sure everyone else is along for the ride '' '

It must be exciting for him to be able to delve this deeply with someone. Usually it’s the same 1-5 conversations over and over again in his interviews. Thor has a level of intuitive understanding, on top of such a developed “Hold Up”, and the innate curiosity for thinking about and analyzing things that he already blew through convos 1-20 years ago. I was excited, too, to finally feel like I’m learning something new from Dr K. We never get this deep into spirituality, and Thor’s linguistic ability to succinctly and uniquely describe phenomena pairs well with Dr K’s own.

I wish Dr. K focused more on the fact that Thor doesn't feel like he "deserves" much. He constantly deflects his own needs in favor of what he believes others need. Would be interesting to hear whether Thor loves himself, considers himself love-able by others, and feels deserving of his current success. There might be some type of trauma response as a result of needing to walk on eggshells for an emotional, narcissistic mother and put her needs first all the time. Otherwise, this was definitely one of the better interviews (and I've been following Dr. K since the beginning.) Looking forward to part 2!

I think this an interesting point of view. But I don't get the general vibe from him that he feels undeserving. I feel like he prepared to be deserving, for example how his channel blew up and has stayed this way so far. How he acknowledges his efforts, but has enough humility to know its not entirely all his efforts. Cues for me also were like him never wanting to be homeless again, and not going into a self-hating spiral like saying to himself that he deserved to be in such a bad situation. The ferret rescue is also something he wants to do, but doing it in a really sustainable way. Like it seems like he gives himself a lot of space emotionally too. Like if something doesn't work out, he allows himself to feel the negative emotions and work them out and realizing that this emotional processing takes time, as much as needed. When he expressed about prioritizing the wellbeing others when deciding the direction of the chat, he made his interests about what he wanted for himself clear too. Another example was how he knew he wasn't ready to have kids, and stuck by that instead of giving into his now ex-wife's wishes and just had kids. I think for me, seeing this comment of yours, makes sense though. Like knowing the history of what he's went through, thinking about the negative experiences of others who have been through something like he had, you really want to make sure he is truly ok. And that's valid.

It reminded me of answers I had stored somewhere within me, it made me recall a path I stumbled upon in the past, it helped me remember that even in this fast-paced modern world, most of the answers lie within me. Dr. K talks about following the next steps; I think I still need the first steps, but this gives me hope. Maybe I'm seeking external answers again, but I wonder where I can find some guidance. But, I feel stuck at the beginning of my journey even though I’ve been trying to learn mental health for the past 4 years. I feel that I’m held back by my emotions, specifically the trauma and emotional baggage I’ve kept from when I was a kid.

Wishing you the best. I hope you can find a therapist that you like that can work on yourself like Thor said at 2:10:24, "Recalling it, reliving the emotion, reframing it, and then filing it back away again using a more analytical approach rather than just having it up at the forefront of your mind"

I thought I had processed the traumas of my past and moved past them long ago, but in reality I disassociated. It wasn't until I finally went to therapy, and let myself feel those emotions fully with somebody guiding me, that I have been able to process and reframe that trauma. I still have work to do on those traumas, but it does get easier each time.

Emotional Processing (2:10:22) : 1) Recall the memory 2) Relive it 3) Reframe it in a way that not only makes sense to you but is also helpful and productive 4) Put it back in it's new reframed form in your memory keep in mind that if your analytical part of the brain is messed up (meaning that you're ability to analyze situations is impaired somehow) this process might make the memory worse, so make sure to take your time in step 3, you might even need someone's help to give you a better perspective or analysis of that memory.

I think Thor's best quality is his openness and natural curiosity. He doesn't live in a world of assumptions, he doesn't rush to judgement or make bad interpretations; everything and everyone deserves to be given a chance to be understood, and he not only takes the time to understand, but he learns infinitely more (which satisfies his curiosity) by being open to a similar experience being new or different in some way that he would have never expected. He really approaches every day as if it brings him something fresh to think about, and that's one of the strongest mindsets to go through life with, because not only are you constantly finding something new each day, but you can receive the events of your life better by being open to the experience. He just has one of the most powerfully curious minds I've seen, and his interest in puzzles and problem solving are excellent assets that he's cultivated which have partly shaped the kind of person he is and how he responds to things.

That first hour as Thor was describing is experiences, his mental, how he's seeing eveything above rock-bottom survival as just hanging around doing stuff, I was right there with Dr. K, getting more and more excited at seeing someone who had amazing "stats" for yoga. And I saw how Dr. K kind of regretted giving him the old "so on what path do you want to continue this talk" and Thor picked the "mental health in game dev" and the Doctor basically railroaded him right back into spirituality. 1:35:36 I constantly experience what Thor is referring to here. I have depression, and I've always perceived ambiguous texts that end with a period in a negative way, not necessarily disrespectful or rude, but I always perceived them to be in a severe tone, even though I know usually that's not the case To my brain an "Okay, I'll talk to you later" is much more lighthearted than an "Okay, I'll talk to you later." The latter makes me immediately think that I've done something wrong, or that you're upset
@christianguest63
@christianguest63 8 месяцев назад
I’ve got a lot of things wrong with my head and one of them is intense amount of anxiety with big spikes of it for no reason sometimes one of the things that does have reasons is every time I get a text or a call my heart rates spikes even if I know it’s about to happen and I have a damn near panic attack every time. Sometimes I’ll get emails saying hurry up before it’s too late for like a sale or something but I read those words and immediately freak the fuck out I find it strange so many little things can affect me so drastically.
@Jervin-Music
@Jervin-Music 8 месяцев назад
I understand this feeling - but I want to add that for me anyway, adding the period sounds formal and completes the sentence in a way that lets me know you mean it. The open ended "okay, I'll talk to you later" feels soft and a bit non committal. I think people just perceive things differently. But the thing I think is worth mentioning regardless of our specific responses, both of us read those two different punctuations as different feelings. is there really a difference ? I'm not sure honestly.

For me, language has rules and punctuation is a part of those rules, I let people perceive my text how they will because managing their response to my text is too difficult.
@BUGHUNTER6
@BUGHUNTER6 8 месяцев назад
To be fair, a lot of people view the period at the end of a sentence as a sarcastic thing. It's not just something subconscious, some people do indeed use the period to imply sarcasm or seriousness etc. Sometimes you can tell that their cadence/attitude changes when they use periods. It's subtle stuff, and it's certainly not universal, but sometimes you can get a sense of the way people apply these things when typing. I tend to leave the period out at the end of messages if I want the tone to be light and not mean or harsh or anything like that

2:10:00 that explanation helps to explain why looking back at my break up nearly half a decade ago over all this time has been getting better as I continually go back into the pain to reframe it and how it has a hold on me today. Not perfect but not as bad as it was and I’m still generally able to function, with still some insecurity to work on with other people and relationships being compared to that situation. The most viewed moment in this conversation happens at 2:10:00. Now what's totally mindblowing is Dr. K expaining something, then Thor summarizing it, and Dr. K acknowledging it's the best and most beautiful summary of it that he can't even repeat when he just heared it. This is the human condition at its core. What Dr. K. immediatly realizes is that it's better than anything he said before, with the realization he can't even recall it. So when your Indriya is fully integrated with your Buddhi you know, you just know without being able to directly repeat it with your other abilities. And it doesn't matter that you can't directly recreate it from memory, what matters is your immediate comprehension. What teacher would give points to that?

This is such a great interview, definitely one of my favourite Dr K videos. Interestingly, I found that I was getting envious of Thor. I started feeling frustrated at what I perceived to be the strength and robust development of his frontal lobe functioning. I'm 29 and was diagnosed with ADHD a little over three years ago, and my mind is screaming at me that Thor was just lucky to have a functioning frontal lobe that can put on the brakes and inhibit his automatic reactions in order to steer his mind to where he wants it to go. I have no idea if this is actually true about him, and it's clear that my ego and its comparison is kicking in like they were talking about in the video. But it's so frustrating to me to think that people like myself, who have been struggling for so long to take control of their lives, even over years and years of trying to work things out, self-reflecting and trying all these different things, can have a near impossible task in becoming someone like Thor just because we were born with a different brain. Combine this with the fact that he then says he only needs to sleep five hours a night, and I just start to think he's a superhuman, and this kind of life is unattainable to most people. I want to hope this kind of thing is possible for me, but at the same time, I don't want to try and open myself up for the hurt of failure and going through this mentsl process again.

Unsolicited youtube advice from someone with a completely different brain. Dont try to be Thor, he's lived his own life to make himself as he is now. You arent him, and how he is is unique to himself. Try to be you, develope your brain to be more of you. Try to be yourself, aim to be the best version of you that you can come up with without being revisionist towards yourself. Its easy to needle out flaws on yourself when lookong for self improvement. BUT Talks is easy, so heres a simple step; Look for something small, and I mean SMALL, that you wish was different, and change it for that day. If you liked the change, try it again the next day. Let yourself get side tracked or forget half way through if that happens, thats normal. If you want a challenge, pick two things the next time. . Have a good one random internet stranger! Hope my words are more than just hot air, good luck in your life!

Personally I am an atheist (formerly Christian), but I have always maintained the mindset that I am no more special than any person I pass in my daily life. I remember at about 16 years old realizing that there are 7 billion people on this planet that share experiences very similar to my own every single day and that my own personal experiences don't give me inherent privilege over others. But at the same time, each person has such immense value and significance that is either unrealized or over-realized.
