As a rule I’m a die hard springer man but recently bought the Gamo Phox as an introduction to PCPs. I chose this particular one as the reviews are mainly positive and you get everything you need to get started in the package deal, gun, pump, carry case, pellets and scope (I’ve upgraded the scope). Thanks for this good little tutorial, a great talk through and demonstration . 👍
I just bought one of these to keep the rabbits, rats, pigeons and squirrels down at our cemetery. Needed something cheap and simple, this got the nod. Seems like a nice kit
Really sorry to hear about your heart condition Look after yourself Really pleased to hear bottle lasts you 18 months Always wondered how good they were Thank you
Great to see a video of the stirrup pump. You could see at the end that the effort was needed to get it over the line. I guess if you didn't push those last few pumps you could still shoot but with less shots? ATB MMMD
You could stop short of the last few pumps and it wouldn't make a huge difference. The trick is to use your body weight and bend your knees, rather than your elbows. That needs a bit more space than I had for the video.
A bottle is a much easier option. I have a heart condition and my recovery time isn't great but I can still pump up the pcps manually. A bottle lasts me about 18months.
Is that the filling probe? They are widely available as a spare. Even places like ebay and Amazon. I believe the later ones are quick release and the older ones are threaded.
my cheep pump £40 gives one shot per pump and about one bar per pump to 250 bar the same effort as pumping up a bike tyre cheaper and more convenient than a bottle i wasn't expecting that. strait arms and drop through bent knees to use body weight especial from 200 bar + so extra body weight helps . so the soprt envolces a little exercise and every 12 foot pounds fired you can say i did that
I bought one of these phox today because of your lovely reviews. Now my question is, I'll be shooting in my garden, which is,around 10 meter max what is the best scope for that because I think the one in getting with Phox is too much for this little distance
Hi, I was thinking about making another phox video ax it's been 2 years since the last one. The bundled scope will, I think, do the job at 10 mtrs. It's certainly worth giving it a try, as it will save you a few bob.
Good video id love a chronograph on it but anyway im going to ask a stupid question now, when you let all that air out did you empty the rifle or was that just lingering in the pump itself because that hissing went on for some time, Thanks I just ordered this kit cant wait to find some rats while im bsa super sport is being serviced 😂
@RealAirgunAdventures aaahh I see ok that makes sense. One of quick thing are you able to supply a link for that quick release adaptor on your video ? Many thanks for replying
Bought the phox setup, cracking gun. When using the pump though I get just over 100bar and the rubber gromet on the gauge blows and dumps all the silicone liquid, any idea why there could be such a pressure build up? Much appreciated
Bit of a late reply but This happened to me with my Gamo pump, I purchased a new gauge, installed it, never had any issues since, easy to replace as well.
Hello RAA I wondered if you could please clarify if there is an upper limit of the BAR/PSI you can achieve using the hand pump? I note you filled it on here from 150-200BAR but also noted the Gamo Phox can be filled to max of 232BAR (I have heard/seen on other videos stating that 200BAR down to 100Bar is the sweet spot with less of fps spread/curve etc) but just wondered can the Gamo be filled to 232BAR using the hand pump? or does it require divers bottle/ mains compressor to take it over 200BAR up to the 232BAR limit?
Cheers for that my good fellow. Didn't look to bad at all. Would you recommend I get a moisture trap for the phox or not? And also is the moderator supplied with the phox metal or plastic and could you reccomend a replacement for it or is the one supplied sufficient? Once again thanks for the vid and will let you know how I get on when mine arrives. Regards John
Hi John, The silencer is metal and its pretty good. If you want t to upgrade I think the Weihrauch is as good as any. To be honest the supplied one is more than adequate
@@RealAirgunAdventures ok thank you. As soon as I get my phox and get it zeroed in I will let you know how I'm getting on. Cant wait to get down to my permission with it for a spot of rat and rabbit bashing.
My valve doesn't "click in" like this. It just kind of goes in and moves around. It's got both O rings on it. It's always happened. It's the most unsatisfying connection I've ever felt, and until I saw this video, I thought it was meant to be that way. Any idea why mine won't click in like yours did?
Mine is a good positive fit. I do know that Gamo have changed the probe. Mine is a couole of years old now. I would talk to Gamo, see what they say. Thanks for watching. 👍
Hi chaps, new to all this, just bought a phox without a pump, finally got a pump but I hope this isn’t a nutty question but do the pumps work on the upward stroke or the downward or both,, cheers
@chupacabra7224 my guess is somewhere in the low 30's. Topping up from 100 to 200 bar. So if you live near a gun shop or dive shop, it's probably going to be good for your needs.
Next month, I'm planning to buy a Gamo Arrow which doesn't have a regulator. And this Gamo pump is currently the cheapest one I can find. Do you think it's better to get a more expensive pump with a water-oil separator included/built-in (like the Hill Mk4) or should I go for the cheaper Gamo pump and couple it with the separator you are using (it will still be cheaper overall by quite a bit)?
Hill pumps are excellent but you do pay a premium. The Gamo pump is very good. I've had mine for well over a year now and no issues I have a couple of pump friendly rifles that I top up with. Personally I would save the money.
@@RealAirgunAdventures Thanks for answering. Yeah, I'm going to go cheap - don't want to end up paying the same or more for the pump :D Did the pump come with any silicone oil/grease?
Just thinking , do you think an inline moisture filter would be advantageous when used with a dive bottle? Or , more too the point would it work with one? ..
Divers air is dry air and already filtered. So you won't need to add a moisture trap. If you do there is no moisture to trap. Another advantage of using a tank.
@@RealAirgunAdventures Cheers , just wondering .. im 62 and a physical wreck .. gonna stick with the bottle , think the Phox package , with the stirrup pump is fantastic though , better suited to a younger man then me though ..
Hello, i was just wondering if you know the size of the o-rings on this rifles pump ? Because mine have cracked and I can’t use it anymore, please reply, thank you.
This is pretty much what's in the box www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Pump-Accessories-30mpa-300bar-4500psi-Pump-Hex-Wrench-For-PCP-Pump-Hand-/284741571230?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&_trksid=p2349624.m46890.l49286&mkrid=710-127635-2958-0 this kit will also fit the pump.
I'll have a look tomorrow. I haven't got the standard scope on there at the moment. I've been trying out a couple of digital scopes. I'll be glad to get a standard one back on.
Hi, yes, it's safe and legal. A lot of people carry a bottle with them when shooting. Some rifles have plenty of air on board and don't require a top up. Hope that helps.
@@RealAirgunAdventures you see the gold part you push into the air part of the gun behind it there a screw part below it what do you screw that into because on my pump there no screw I can screw into
Real airgun adventures,, don't suppose you could put a link to the moisture trap in the comments or description can you, I've looked all over..??? Thanks mate.

You just need to screw in a sling swivel. If you take the action out, there is a moulded screw housing inside. Drill through from the inside (3mm drill). Most Harris style bipod fit.
I think it depends on what you plan to use it for. The phox is a good accurate, robust, knock about rifle. The RM8 more one to be cared for. The synthetic stock version is good, they are a little heavy though. If your going to be doing pest control, the phox is ideal. For more targets, plinking and the occassional rat, the RM8.
Hi. I have this set up and absolutely love it but I am having an issue with the pump. When I am pumping, I get to just shy of 200 bar and suddenly the little black plug on the pressure gauge blows out and starts leaving the glycerin / silicone oil that's in side the gauge. Have you ever had an issue with this? Can it still be used without the plug and fluid or should I look at returning it? Thanks and great video BTW
Hi, That needs to go back. Sounds like a faulty pump. It you carry on using it it will eventually fail. Gamo seem to have made some changes, the filling probe is different now and maybe the pump is too. Sorry its not better news.
Thanks for the reply! I have just tried it now and managed to pump it up to 2 bar without the plug in and managed it fine. But if you think it's going to eventually fail then I will take it back ASAP. Thanks for the advise, much appreciated.
Hi I’m struggling to pump the phox up I’ve read on a forum that I need a different connection on the pump but not sure exactly what it is I need any help is much appreciated
Hi, what's the issue? Hard to pump, Air not going in, Air leaking at the pump/probe connection? You should be able to charge with the supplied connections. I swapped mine for quick release but that was just convenience. Let me know what's up and I'll try to help.
@Real Airgun Adventures Many thanks for replying yes air not going in. the dial on the pump not even registering any air going in. I’ve pumped for quite a while the dial on the gun did go up very slightly but for all the effort the dial hardly moved.
@@metalheadz07 OK, the probe has a 1/8" bsp thread as does the pump hose. Once you remove the quick connector (supplied with the pump) the probe will screw straight in. Usually it will seal without any help but it has to be really tight. If it isn't sealed properly, you'll be looseing the air before it gets to the rifle. So you can pump like mad and get nowhere. Does that make sense? The answer is a few turns of ptfe tape (plumbers tape), on the probe thread. Although a nip up with good spanners may sort it. Hope that's helpful. You can test the joint with a little bit of soapy water on a brush.
@@RealAirgunAdventures that’s Brilliant Mate thank you so much I think maybe I just need to try harder also maybe use the ptfe tape like you suggest. But thank you so much again for all your help with this Take Care I will drop you a message to update once rifle is filled.
Just to add if I remove the gold quick connector it leaves me with a threaded part but the probe doesn’t have any thread on at all just a straight part similar to the end that goes into the gun.I need to have the quick connector on for the probe to fit into the pump. Hope I’m doing everything correct and not being stupid. Many thanks again
Hi guys, just purchased a Gamo phox in kit form so comes with the stirrup pump. Question rifle is about 100 bar and when I try to pump air after about 5 pumps I am unable to pump any more with out really putting all my weight onto even then pressure not increasing really. The ease of the pump in the video is nothing like mine. What am doing wrong?
Sounds as if the air isn't going in, just pressurising the hose. If your guage is reading 100 bar the first 25 to 30 pumps should be fairly easy. Check the connection both ends. Let me know if that helps.
@@RealAirgunAdventures plenty of air in hose when I disconnect it. Air conning out of end of pump and looks clear so does the tiny hole on rifle where you connect pump. First time using a PCP and don’t want t knacker anything by forcing it. When you insert the hose into the rifle does it matter if the hole on the pump is in align with the tiny hole on the rifle? I wouldn’t have thought so as the air should still pump. Thanks for your help
@@amillett6863 I think I would give it a twist and if aligning the holes helps. Bit of a long shot but worth a go. Just out of interest does the guage on the rifle correspond with guage on the pump?
