No offense to the other ladies, but Marianela’s port de bras is almost magical it’s so beautiful and full of life. I also preferred the texture, how she played with speed in hers, of course that could be more about how she was directed to perform it, but overall it resulted in a more engaging performance.
Wow, all three were wonderfully performed! In comparison, I think I would put Nunez first, Ekaterina second and Bussell third (only because her pirouettes weren’t quite as clean. And did her music seem slower?) But I’d pay every bit of money I could afford to see any one of them perform live (I know Darcy Bussell’s retired, but you get my point). Marianela has such an amazing effortless and yet controlled quality to her dancing-I especially love the way her attitude turns finish in such a turned out position. I would say I find her acting the most compelling too, although not by a large margin from the other two dancers. But I would have to say Ekaterina might be my favorite of these three just because of the timing of her jumps, which are perfect-she knows exactly when to start the jump so that she's fully extended in the air at the perfect moment. They’re more precisely musical than either Marianela or Darcy. I do also like Darcy-there is an ease to her dancing that I feel is almost "slippery" (?) (in a good way!)-but the orchestra plays pretty slowly, especially in the turn sequence-almost 'stately' which I don’t think is right for the impetuous, haughty Gamzatti.
I think Nela and Ekaterina’s versions reminded me that Gamzetti is a young princess, even though she has all vengeance. Darcy’s version shapes the character to be more mature, akin to a queen more than a princess. All are spectacular!
Each dancer brought her unique characterization to the role of Gamzatti. The all captured the difficult elements of the variation. They are all beautiful to watch. ( The Bolshoi orchestra was great and really emphasized the brass section. ) Thanks again for another amazing video, C ❤❤❤
i usually prefer russian dancers in these compilations, but when ms. nuñez is in the lineup, i have to amend my preferences!!! i love the russian training so much but somehow, she is so lovely that i do not even care about the style anymore!
I love love love Gamzatti, bc of the music, the whole thing 👍🏻👍🏻😍👍🏻 So for sure when always there is a Gamzatti video, I'm watching it! 😃 I saw so many variations with a loooooot of different ballerinas.... I can say for sure: NOBODY, really Nobody beats Marinela Nunez in this choreography ! I say this although she isn't my first favorite ballerina.... But I like her extremely of course! 👍🏻 😂❤️❤️❤️She is the best in especially this master piece!
Marienela, everything she brings to her performance. All have great technique, but Marienela just flows through every transition, with her beautiful expressive head and arms and her musicality ❤
The first dancer had more control on Her attitude turns into plié and her pique turns were effortless as if she could continue turning even after the Triple turn. I was also quite fond of the third ballerina.
All of them are amazing yet with different styles. I feel that Nela and Ekaterina are slightly better at turning than Darcy, but ballet isn't about who can turn the most or who can jump the highest. Ekaterina's music is slightly quicker than the first two (which is typical for Bolshoi :D). My personal fav is Nela though, it feels like she is not dancing Gamzatti, she IS Gamzatti. They are gorgeous all of them, actually it is the first time I see krysanova in this variation and the second part of it is really spectacular, good for her. 👍 Darcey and Maria nela are superb always, but in this specific variation Nunez is a joy to watch 👍😊
Nunez always so nunez, what ever she did you can see the same meal. She is correct, OK, but she is without light, and really boring, I don't think that this is a right prima.

Notice how often Marianela looks up towards her hand when her arm is extended upwards. This little touch is but one of the many reasons the whole world loves her.

Thank you truly once again for starting my day off with loveliness! These three are all wonderful and to compare them is not really fair because each is wonderful in every way but since I must I must conclude that for me Nela is not simply dancing her feelings brought out by incredible music, her timing and perfect phrasing of the steps to the music with absolute control and proficiency of it all from the top of her head to the balls other feet proves she is the master of this performance as well as every other she does. Literally flawless! Perfect poetry in motion!
They are all fantastic. Though I felt Krysanova was struggling at the beginning due to the faster tempo of the music. I love the little back bend in the chainees that the Royal Ballet version of the variation has, just adds a little bit of sass. Nela just couldn't stop smiling, just what you would expect for this moment of the ballet.
Nela and then Bussul I could see how much she was trying and I think that's what counts. But Nela wow that's really inspiring for me because I am a young dancer ( when I say young I mean 10 year old young) I think watching the Royal ballets classes are AMAZING they help me look at what I may be doing in the future and I think it helps my technique in classical ballet I would not be the same without Nelas amazing dancing! In questo video (in assoluto la mia preferita è Natalia Osipova) anche se sono tutte bravissime la mia preferita è Marianela Nunez, trovo che Gamzatti sia il ruolo che le viene meglio.
They are all three beautiful in their own way. I love Nunez and Bussell, but I have to say that Krysanova impressed me with the way she appears to 'eat up' the stage. Also she is the only one who properly performed the timing at 2:53: there is one relevé, and one two (two beats,), and where you think the ballerina is almost going to miss the next relevé, and then three relevés, and three and four and five, développé six... Elisabeth Platel and Ludmilla Pagliero elsewhere in RU-vid, perform it very well - but I may be influenced by the Nureyev choreography which I know well.
Yup, and the Bolshoi Historic Stage is the biggest! Krysanova is a master in covering every inch of that stage and making use of the space she gets to perform to the best of her ability. Suits Gamzatti’s character so much.
Krysanova is the best, then goes Nunez, and Bussell is no.3.They are all high class, but if I had money for just one performance, I would definitely have chosen Ekaterina, because she is the only one who really delights me here.
As for British style Ballerinas no one since Fonteyn can compare to Bussell (excepting Alina Cojocaro who is in a unique class and can’t be judged by the same measures) Nela is technically “perfect” but to me she is a precision instrument and even her “emotions” are planned in advance. That being said this is one of the worst example of Darcey’s spectacular style and technique. She’s just extraordinary but she looks a little off her game here. But even so she has those very “creamy” port des bras which is a hallmark of the Royal Ballet style. It’s impossible to compare Russian ballerinas except against each other. They play for the audience more than they inhabit the character. Not as lyrical but more virtuosic. I think she was excellent - very bright and quick tempo. The orchestra seemed particularly slow during Darcey’s performance which dragged it a bit.
Krysanova. I appreciate all of them but Krysanova's faster tempo is exciting and seems right, her turns and jumps are terrific, her port de bras are beautiful addition, and she makes it look effortless. Nunez is very precise but has a stiff torso.
the choreography is slightly different for the last ballerina, it seems that the stage is too small for Darcy Bussell, she almost hit a lady at he back of the stage ! I prefer Ekaterina Krysanova.
All beautiful. Amazing how each one brings different nuances to the same dance. If I had to make a choice, I’d go with Ekatarina. There was just ‘something’ - not the least being her tutu was pretty. Petty to say the others were not attractive at all! She just had a lightness to her. Best way I can describe it. Thank you, amazing 🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺
All wonderful but Darcey just blew my mind with her leaps. It looks like she is floating because of the extra leg extention at the very end of reaching the arch of the leap. Wow
krysanova is my favourite in this variation but darcey's temple destruction scene alone makes her my favourite gamzatti overall. her extensions are just ethereal.
