Gandhi stops riots, The greatness of this Man was His Simplicity 

When whole India was burning in post independence riots.
Jawahar Lal Nehru, Sardar Patel, Maulana Azad was discussing how grave is the situation and no solution is working. Gandhi stood as he exactly knew what to do.
He decided to go to Calcutta (Kolkata).
The Great Calcutta Killings was perhaps the worst riot that British India witnessed and it was followed by the Noakhali Riot. Gandhiji landed in Sodepur in August, 1947, to address communal tension and wanted to proceed towards Noakhali, but Suhrawardy requested him to extend his stay in Calcutta. “The situation in Calcutta again became tense in end-August and on September 1, Gandhiji undertook a fast. On September 4, the rioters surrendered their arms at his feet and he finally agreed to break the fast after 73 hours.
