This rare later Gandy has him as “the new sheriff”. Many gags are pale echoes of Bugs Bunny/Yosemite Sam encounters, but the crazy animation and satisfying climax may make it worth your while.
Love how the start has a completely DARK showing of all the sheriffs dead and then just cuts to the goose skipping around happily. Not only is the animation deranged in the shorts, but the tone is too.
I had no deja vu problems with this at all. This kind of toon has a long pedigree going back to Mickey and Bosko and right through the 30s and 40s and they are usually a lot of fun. If you love cartoons you just can't compare everything out there to what the best studios did. I love the old Terrytoons, many of them anyway, and especially Mighty Mouse and Gandy Goose, although I prefer Gandy with Sourpuss. I never saw this, or don't remember ever seeing this, so it was a real treat. And yes the ending was great.
He reminds me of a old Gandy Goose. Gandy Goose was a cartoon character from the early 40s. There is one cartoon called Gandy Goose in "wide open spaces." In the cartoon Gandy, who happens to be an effeminate character, takes on the baddest gun slinger and wins. The Gandy Goose cartoons are funny and entertaining.
And the moral of the story kids, is that gun play solves everything! I've been watching a run of old cartoons, and I realise they were from a certain time; but even in relation to that, the Terry toons seem to love their guns in their shorts a lot more than their contemporaries! Also did Disney know Terry toons had pretty much stolen Pete to be the baddie in this one?
