Stars: Anne Nagel, Robert Kent, Charles Trowbridge Director: Lambert Hillyer A ruthless but clever gangster who knows every loophole in the law has the tables turned by a dedicated District Attorney and his assistant.
A hidden gem of a crime noir flick. If some of it seems old hat keep in mind this was written before 1938. This is like the game plan for organized crime of the sixties through eighties - and the clumsiness of the law who suffers many indignities, often of their own mis-placed zeal. This was probably a bit relevant in it's time, more-so today. That makes it worth a look as a hidden gem.
What a great little "B" movie. And 79 years' old. Always happy to spend an hour watching these old movies which still give me so much pleasure. I was two years' old when this was made. The characters were well played and there really was quite a bit of atmosphere. Thank you for this.
An instructive '30's crime-noir film i.e., criminal law is mainly about cracking down on poor snooks doing stupid capers and catching blue-collar jail-cover dims. The uptown white-collar thieves, like the execs at Wells Fargo Bank, walk away with hundreds of millions and float to safety on golden-corporate-parachutes. A swell retirement on investor's dimes.
You didn't mention that Wells Fargo Bank bought out the Norwest Bank in Minneapolis years ago. Norwest was a terrible place to do business. The staff treated you like crap on a routine basis and looked for every chance to screw their customers. I speak from experience.
The daughter did not know that ( it was a setup plan) that the courts knew and the Young lawyer knew but the daughter did not know she actually thought her father was going to jail. And of course neither did the bad guys know that it was a total setup . GREAT --- MOVIE (( Today Sunday, November 20,2016 )) [ Thank's ]
The policing and lawyering in this flick is a stomach-turner for any policemen and lawyers watching … but still entertaining enough to enjoy a double-feature gem. Now, for just one more of your "B" shows PizzaFlix. Thanks again.
At 6:56 referring to the US Constitution cop says to crime boss "that's a bill of human rights, it was never intended to protect human rats!" Anne Nagle who received top billing here died of liver cancer at age 50. Yes, she had a problem.
That's very true, Just Steve. Anne Nagel -- who was born Anna Marie Dolan, on the 29th of September, 1915, and who passed away on the 6th of July, 1966 -- did endure many problems during her 25 year acting career. But, at least she'd been able to work with a variety of great actors and actresses of her day: such as Claudia Dell in A BRIDE FOR HENRY (1937); Joan Barclay in CONVICTS CODE (1939); and also the infamous W. C. Fields in one of his biggest hit movies: 1941's NEVER GIVE A SUCKER AN EVEN BREAK. She was also one of the rather few of her time who'd been able to be cast in TV roles. Her very final role was in the 1st of 49 episodes of the series CIRCUS BOY -- which starred a little boy of 11, Mickey Braddock: best known as the lead-vocalist of The Monkees. Mickey Dolenz, turned 75 on March 8th.
"This is America. You are presumed Guilty until you are proven Guilty." **THAT is 'The American Dream' in so many words. However, if you are female, non-White, or are in this country illegally, you are presumed innocent on all counts. And for that we pay taxes.
Very. And I read Tafts words. 8 thought well that applies id you use a bike lock to club 7 ppl and get a 2 yr bond in Cali. But seriously, I read Taft, and I wonder how applicable that is in the UK on supposed hate speech laws. If you escape those vile laws the public will applaud you
@@jennyjerome5669 HUMAN? Capitalism does not have anything of human nature, is not good for business. Exacerbate the mythological stigmatization of women, family, values the beast aspect of human life; trough class struggle cover as a competition to "success"& "progress" . Hollywood great responsible on the built of that masc. Capitalism does not have anything of human nature; is a PROGRESS WITHOUT WOMEN AND WITHOUT PEOPLE. what can of progress is that fascist progress for a reduced circle of MOLOCH PEOPLE.
I hope this was just a movie, and a not a reflection on what a real district attorney back then would have done. Throwing a bomb out the window without checking if anybody was out there...putting those two thugs in jail with such a low bond that they would be right back out again. Good entertainment, but really a little naïve and silly.
YOU ought to be concerned about what is happening in our country RIGHT NOW - from the top-down-bottoms-up ... On second thought, YOU and many of us ought to be DOING SOMETHING AS SERIOUS AS OUR PROBLEMS ... YEAH, ME TOO.
@@nameskhar1510 When you say "our country", I think you mean the US, as I currently live in Mexico. However, I think I understand what you mean and I do agree with you 100%.
@@nameskhar1510 Forget it. No one wants to listen to the truth these days. They're too hung up on Political Correctness and Critical race Theory and 'wokeism'. This country, under the present administration, is a train wreck in the making.
I always liked Charles Trowbridge. He and Sam Flint and Samuel S. Hinds presented a solid and moral image to the viewer. And then there were Edwin Stanley and Selmer Jackson as well.
This movie's plot Is quite similar to what is happening in USA,with Trump in Oval Office& his Banana Republic family& staff! It demonstrates the indifferent,uncaring,non-compassionate human beings, which IS exemplified by Trump et al.Present " situation" needs to change,a complete overall change!
@@barbaracrickley6191 probably because that was the style back then, much like overgrown butts, lips and bodies in general are in style and "classy" today 😊
