I remember watching this game in the morning in India. Tendulkar started beautifully and Ganguly made a dazzling hundred to give India its only victory in the series. Not to mention the two Ws, Shoaib and Saqlain were a ferocious bowling attack. What made this spectacle magical was the picturesque Adelaide Oval and the delightful voices of the Channel 9 commentary team. Totally enchanting.
Not many are aware that this series saw Ganguly score two ODI hundreds (the other one was against Australia) in Australia, which were first by an Indian on australian soil against australia as well in an ODI.
Time to bring Tri-Series in Australia back. Bill Lawry, Richie Benaud, Tony Greig, Mark Taylor, Ian Chappell were absolute gold on the commentary. This has to be the one of the best Indian ODI jersey.
@@main_lukkha_hoon8795he was also captain and that pressure he could not handle and he had to relieve his captaincy and made way to dada.then the era change came to Indian cricket team
2000 - 2002 was the best time of sourav ganguly as far as his batting performance was concerned, he really gave memorable moments in that time, nostalgic feeling, and also in his captaincy india got world class players like yuvraj singh, virendra sehwag, harbhajan singh and zaheer khan
If I remember correctly, this was the only match India won out of 8 matches. Pakistan was a good side, but Australia had become almost unbeatable at this point. Blanked Pakistan 2-0 in the finals.
India didn't had the luxury of power hitting all rounders like Afridi, Razzak, Azhar and fast bowling attack like Wasim, Waqar, Shoaib. Despite being an inferior side on paper, India completed very well against Pakistan in that era (Especially winning 4 World Cup matches from 1992-2003).
Ganguly had scored 22 odi centuries with more than 11000 odi runs....2nd highest runs scorer in 2003 world cup after sachin....lots of love to sourav ganguly.🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩
I remember watching this entire series, including the tests against Australia. India performed miserably in that tour with a few exceptions like this one
Whenever The highlights of this masterclass from Ganguly aired on Star/ESPN, Wasim always complained that it's the only time Ganguly got on top off him and ESPN always tries to cash on it and air it whenever possible. It's all in good fun. Glad to see all the legends from both sides yet again. This was a very good Pakistani side and India did very well to beat them there.
Sourav was not only the first left handed batsman but also the first Indian to score a century against Australia in Australia in both odi and test. Only 4 Indian batsmen have achieved this feat - Sourav (first), Sachin, VVS Laxman and Virat Kohli.
I was at this game and I remember that catch against the fence and thinking that it should have been six since he was touching it, but also pretty amazed at the catch itself. I don't know if and when the rules changed, and I'm still not convinced that they ever did change and that this was correctly a wicket, but incredible catch.
According to rules in those days batsman was given out even if the fielder touched the fence while taking the catch Only on Australian grounds there were fences instead of boundary rope
Dada is best... Just watched how he dominates such a brutal & ferocious bowling lineup of Pakistan like Shoaib Akhtar, Waseem Akram, Aquib javed, Abdul Razzak, Azahar Mahmood, Saqlain mustahk, Saheed Afridi.. Hats off to u Dada ... U R D BEST..
Hrishikesh Kanitkar, this Indian cricketer always makes me smile out of nostalgia and respect. In some ways, he was what Dinesh Kartik is for India in current times; a player with one career defining innings.
Yuvi was the man who balanced the middle order in odis and later on sehwag the opening slot and Ms dhoni did finishing role. Sachin, sehwag, yuvi and zaheer khan were the main pillars for indian odi setup in 2000s and early 2010s
Watched it LIVE in 1999-2000 while juggling high school, tuitions & Board exams!! Memories still afresh after all these years. 90s were special & enough has been said on that already.
I was in 9th standard back then, I used to wake up at 5am in the morning and wasted my life lol. But this was the first time I followed cricket in Australia and fell in love with their grounds, MCG, SCG, WACA, GABBA, Adelaide. Now I live in Sydney and whenever I go to these grounds I feel so nostalgic.
Uss time ek match mei Sachin aur ek match mei Ganguly 100 lgate thy...,2002 tkk Ganguly Sachin ke badh odi mei sbse jyada run bnane wala batsman tha jiski koi baat ee nhi krta koi
24 years old match - Just have a look at the HD quality video by Channel 9 and Cricket Australia are probably The Best in saving the Memorabilia and Match highlights. We the shoddy Indians don't even have the time, nor the respect for the erstwhile Cricketers and these matches are seldom shown by the Sports channels back in India, we didn't have a World class Bowling attack during the past, so we lost many many matches and series on a trot. Australia, England, South Africa, New Zealand, Pakistan and the West Indies were ahead of India during the 1999 era. Things are vastly different now 24 years later. Thanks for the memories.
Show the present generation how Ganguly batted against the then world's best bowling attack - Waqar, Wasim, Saqlain and Shoaib Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma haven't faced bowlers like Shaoib, Brett Lee, Warne, Murlidharan
Those days even winning one match against Pakistan is like Bangladesh win against india now a days just after dada took over captaincy every thing changed
Ganguly is one of the finest left-handed batsmen ever. I enjoyed watching him bat more than Sachin. His Pakistani counterpart, Saeed Anwar is another left-handed great
Should have uploaded Pak Ind game from Brisbane which went to the last ball - a classic thriller ! Have grown up watching this numerous time on ESPN / STAR in Indo-Pak sub continent as India only win this encounter in that tournament. Anyway still a good upload !!
Log kahate hai Dada Akram aur Shoib Akhter ko khel nahi sakte hai, date hai. Lekin yaha match aur kai match hai Jisme Dada ne srif Akhter ko hi nahi balki poore Pakistani bowler ko Dho Dala.
@@purushottum9792Too bad his career was destroyed by hafeez and waqar younis in 2011. As soon as inzamam retired razzaq wasnt selected on regular basis
Akram in his first spell bowled wider to Ganguly, who was able to convert those into boundaries. In his second spell Akram nailed Ganguly with a yorker.
