It's an extremely difficult kata to perform correctly. I was taught this kata almost forty years ago and I still struggle with it. Age has robbed me of my sense of balance, but I still enjoy working through this kata. It's a challenge to be sure!
Especially with a bad hip. I stop doing this kata years ago. About 5 years ago. Due to a bad right knee. Got it replaced in 2020. I lost so much flexibility with my kicks. That make Gankaku and Kangku Dai difficult. I basically started all over. I started doing Tekki Katas first for a year to rebuild my legs 2020 to 2021. Then started the Heian Series in 2022. Kata a month 3 times a week plus basic. Ended the last 3 months doing Kangku Dai. 2024 dedicated to Gankaku. Will be a good year.
I’m not going to tell you to fix Gankaku out of respect for your Sensei who is correcting you properly on Monji Uke ,but Gankaku is a flowing Kata, especially when you execute the slow movements, otherwise it becomes choppy! And it’s only because we were part of the AJKA system taught the JKA way. I used Tanaka Sensei as my guide! Other then that young lady, excellent spirit, and perfection of character!
Aku juga belajar Gankaku, Sampai sekarang muternya tidak bisa sempurna sensei. kalo ada waktu coba tengok vidio ku sensei. Minta pendapat dan masukan supaya aku bisa lebih baik lagi. Salam Karate .. osh .
You’re brilliant, really brilliant but your back stance is not correct/JKA. Back leg should not be pushed out to rear - this is common mistake but incorrect and is causing you problems when changing position. Ok? Oss.
