Sharing with you our family trip to the most accessible gannet colony in New Zealand - the Muriwai Gannet Colony. We watched in awe these adorable gannets as they come and go in the colony, controlling their landings with ease in their precisely arranged nests as they deliver food to their waiting chicks or gugas. We were absolutely delighted to see these seabirds ascend, preen, land, kiss and squawk in this picturesque location. It’s free to visit the Muriwai gannet colony but be mindful that feeding the birds and flying drone over them are not permitted. If planning to visit the colony, come between August and March when about 1,200 pairs of gannets nest and breed from mid-September to mid-December.
