@@lsaacthecraftsman I don't really know actually, I am not a GoW fan and also I would rather watch the English version. I knew he was Kratos voice actor because of Ganondorf. Apparently, he is also Frank West VA in DR4 (but that was awful) He kinda looks like Mark Hamill if you ask me.
I love how everyone says "in my language Ganondorf talks about how back in his days things were different", because the English dub is the only one that actually rewrites entire lines of dialogue.
Yeah it's been a huge problem with English translators for a while, rather than just translating the text as closely as possible they've developed a habit of 'interpreting' it whatever way they prefer. It really skewers the original vision.
As a german myself, i know that Germany itself is famous for its „aggressive Language“. I think here you can see a pretty good example in how it can be used to let evil guys sound absolutely perfect. Shoutout to Tilo Schmitz who did a perfect job in german for this character!
It was nice of Link to wait for him to give his monologue. He's probably been rehearsing it in his head for 10 thousand years. It would have been really disappointing for him if he didn't get to deliver it.
as a Russian speaker i think the dub did a really good job of giving a different personality to Ganon. The English dub makes him sound as if he is a fighter at heart with how he talks about fighting a worthy foe but the literal Russian translation of his lines makes him sound even more irritable at the state of the affairs. His russian lines literally translated are as follows: “How disappointing/sorrowful. This world, which should be covered by darkness, baths in abysmal light.” (His most badass russian line imo) “Cowardly weaklings chirp for tranquility. It wasn’t like this before. Only the strongest used to rejoice.” “I swear, I will do everything to ensure things return to how they were. I will rule the world. I will remedy it myself. As befits a king.” “You will see the resurgence of a king and the birth of a new world.”
The german Ganaondorf actually says something completely different! When the english Ganondorf says: „It would have been more… satisfying to overcone a worthy foe.“ The german one says: „Früher war das anders, wohin man auch sah loderte der Kampfgeist!“ Translation: „It used to be different, wherever you looked the fighting spirit was blazing!“ Quite interesting…
The thing is you cant compare it that way...cause the german voice actor translates the japan (original) version, just like the english one, and most interesting...the german Translation is most of the times more accurate than the english one
@@Lord_Kasuma If both Voiceactors translated from the same thing and you are right with the german version beeing more accurate. What was the english guy doing? If it is slightly different, ok, but that is something completely different!
French one say something roughly translating by "at least, back in the past, they were still proving themselves to be tenacious" Seems like it's the english one that stands out on that line
Translation for French: "How pathetic, the world that should be plunged into darkness is bathed in a detestable light ..." "The beings that inhabit it delight themself in peace and tranquility cowardly that they are. At least in the past they showed tenacity" *_Transforms_* "It is time to give back this kingdom the appearance that should be his ... I was quite let down when I found out what the english translation was. The Italian one seemed a lot more interesting lore-wise. It seemed to imply that Ganondorf knows a lot more than it seems. A literal translation of what he says from 15:03 to 16:41 would be: "Truly pathetic. This world, destined to eternal darkness, is plagued by a stubborn light. Cowards try to pass off their spinelessness as a wish for peace. True courage has vanished a long time ago. This world has to go back to the magnificence of that glorious era. It will bow down to me, its true Lord. This is what being a king means." The rest is quite similar to the english one. I really like how he describes Hyrule as a place "destined to darkess and plagued by a stubborn light", which is the exact opposite of how the story is usually told. But mostrly, that "True courage has vanished a long time ago" part REALLY caught my attention, like, what is he referring to?? Too bad It's not present in the english version. Now I'm really curious about the original japanese dialogue. From my experience, italian adaptation is usually more faithful to the original compared to english (at least in the latest zelda games) but, I have to idea about this case.
My japanese isn't perfect but the sentiment of all translations is basically the same. That the current world is full of cowards that don't have courage/strength/spirit/muscles/whatever other warrior related attribute and that his era was way better because there were true warriors and such( with some even spicing it up saying it had more suffering and was better for it) It's basically Boomer talk
I believe that his views on the current world being "full of cowards wishing for peace" is due to his own hardships surviving in the Gerudo Desert. Living in an arid wasteland is not easy, and Ganondorf must've seen how the strongest survive in the desert, while the weak perish. It's good reason as to why the Gerudo used to be independent before they unified with the Kingdom of Hyrule. By swearing fealty, Ganondorf is placing himself in a weak position by annexing the Gerudo territories to Hyrule's lands for their protection, and he absolutely hates the idea. Besides, the Gerudo are warriors at heart as well, so their fighting spirit is blazing.
Here's the traducted version of ganondorf's speech from french to english : How pathetic The world that should be plunged into darkness is instead bathed in a detestable light The beings who populates it delight in peace and tranquillity, such as the coward they are at least in the past, they still showed tenacity It is time to restore this kingdom to its proper appearance I will make reign my law over the world, I will subjugate it as befits the sovereign that I am open your your eyes the true king is reborn witness the advent of his world
Matt Mercer really killed it, but both Spanish dubs as well as Italian send a very special chill down my spine: "That is what a king must do" in both spanish dubs becomes "That is what a true king would do", but in italian becomes "That is what it means to be the king" "Do not look away, you witness a king's revival" in both spanish dubs becomes "You shall be witness to the return of the legitimate king" and in italian becomes "observe closely the advent of the authentic king" Really doing a good job of conveying Ganondorf's menacing sense of royal purpose
I love the Spanish voice acting for Ganondorf. Not only the translation, but also the way Alfonso Vallés delivers his lines. He really gives Ganondorf a menacing look, resembling an evil king Also the Russian translation just hits different
Looking at all this different translations given by multilingual people in this comment section, it really makes me sad that some aspects of the intended meaning was lost in the English dub. The bits about “Peace loving cowards running rampant” SHOULD have been localized as “Weaklings selling their spineless ness as a wish for peace. True courage no longer exists.” Not only is that ten times cooler, but it gives Ganondorf a more tangible motivation for conquering hyrule other then “Light bad, darkness good, lust for power”. It would’ve retained him being simply pure evil, but would’ve also given him a reason for it.
Here a French traduction: *How pathetic.* _(Comme c'est pathétique)_ *The world that should be shrouded in darkness, is bathed in a detestable light.* _(Le monde qui devrait être plongé dans les ténèbres, est baigné d'une détestable lumière.)_ *The beings who populate it bask in peace and tranquility, cowards that they are.* _(Les êtres qui le peuplent se complaisent dans la paix et la tranquillité, lâches qu'ils sont.)_ *At least in the past, they still showed tenacity.* _(Au moins par le passé, ils faisaient encore preuve de ténacité.)_ *It is time to restore this realm to its proper form.* _(Il est temps de rendre à ce royaume l'apparence qui doit être la sienne.)_ *I will reign and enforce my law over the world. I will subdue it.* _(Je ferai régner ma loi sur le monde. Je vais le subjuguer.)_ [very difficult to translate: "Faire régner ma loi" is a mix between "rule the roost" and "rule the law (his law)"] *As befits the sovereign that I am.* _(Comme il sied le souverain que je suis.)_ *Open your eyes wide.* _(Ouvre grands les yeux.)_ *The true king is reborn.* _(Le véritable roi renaît.)_ *Witness the advent of his world.* _(Soit témoin de l'avènement de son monde)_ French phrasing is quite delightfully odd. It is as the same time literary & formal, yet agressive & egoistical. It gives the odd feeling of an highly educated boomer from 200 years ago.
@@Arenigmae I agree. The Japanese version use the archaic Japanese for Ganondorf speech. The closest in idea would have been using Medieval French, which would be... as fitting as using British English for Ganondorf: a little too cheesy. So I guess they went by using the language "soutenu" instead of the common or familiar language in French, which made Ganondorf sound like a scholar. A very aggressive scholar. Dus the use of less common verb and more literary sentence order like "comme il sied" or "lâche qu'ils sont" which I probably never heard by ear, only saw it in book.
@@Clemehl I don't agree, Ganondorf's strong French is spoken fluently in France, for proof, I myself use the same vocabulary as him and I'm only 16 years old.
@@terminator4790 Justement, il dit que la chose la plus proche du japonais archaïque AURAIT été l'ancien français, mais qu'à la place il utilise un vocabulaire soutenu pour éviter de tomber dans le ridicule.
Speaking of the original Metal Gear Solid, Snake’s French voice is Jimmy T while Ganondorf’s French voice is Wario from Warioware Gold and Warioware Get It Together.
10:22 Spanish ganondorf doesnt say "it would have been more... satisfying to overcome a worthy foe" that translate to "hubiese sido mas satisfactorio superar a un digno adversario" insted he says " en epocas pasadas si que había verdadero sufrimiento " that transalate something like " long time ago there was true suffering " and then the best part he says "do not look away you witness a king's revival and the birth of his new world" he says "You're going to be the witness of the comeback of the only true king and the birth of a new world"
Interesting, i don't know alot of french, but I caught some differences. For example, he says i believe "like the king that I am" instead of "like a king must do". The one I'm more certain about is that he says " the true king is reborn" instead of "you witness a king's rebirth"
translation for german "how regretable. this world was already doomed to fall to darkness. but an insufferable light was laid upon it. it is teeming with cowards that care about nothing but they´re silly peace. in my time it was different, everywhere you looked, the fighting spirit was blazing. transforms but now i will give the world back it´s old face. From the comment section translations, ganondorf appears to just generally be saying “fuck the light, back in my day people he fighting courage, now people are spineless pussies. Imma fix that as the king I am”
Russian translation: "How disgusting... The world that should be shrouded in darknes... Is covered in a insufferable light. All these weak, wimpy cowards clinging on to their peace. Before it was not like that... Only the most strongest walked this earth." After transformation: "I make a vow.. I will make it all be like that again. I will rule the world, imprison it for me. This is what should be for a king. You will see. A revival of a king. And a birth of a new world."
7:52 „it is filled with cowards who‘s own love is to their hilarious peace“ „Back than this was different, everywhere you saw the fighting spirit was burning“ Interesting how german ganondorf dosnt directly wanna reshape the world in his image, but rather wants to recreate the world as it used to be
Direct French Translation : "How pathetic. This world that should be shrouded in darkness, is drowned in a detestable light... The beings that rule it remain content in their peace and tranquillity, cowards that they are. At least in the past, they still showed some amount of tenacity. It is time to give this Kingdom the shape it deserves. I will lay down my law on this world. I will subjugate it. As befits the Sovereign that I am. Keep your eyes wide open. The true King is reborn. Bear witness to the rise of his World." Boomer Ganondorf reminiscing about the good ol' days......
ACTUAL SPANISH (spain) subtitles: How pathetic. The darkness should be filling the world, but that insuferable light invades everything. The world is full of pacifist cowards that roam freely. In past times there was true suffering. (transforms) It is time for me to reshape the world in what it should be. I will make it bow before me. I will rule it Is what every king would do. (The menace unleashed , Demon king Ganondorf) You are going witness, The return of the legitimate king And the birth of a new world. Sorry if there were any mistakes with the spelling, i did my best
I'm really translating the french translation in all of your comment sections 😂 Mummy Ganondorf: How pathetic... The world that should be shrouded in darkness is bathed in a despicable light. The beings who inhabit it delight in peace and tranquility, like cowards that they are. At least in the past, they always showed tenacity. Rehydrated Ganondorf: It is time to restore this realm to its proper form. I will rule my law over the world, I will subjugate it. As befits a sovereign that I am. Open your eyes wide. The true King is reborn. Witness the advent of his world.
I don't know other languages, but Ganondorf in italian say substantially different things from the subs: "How pathetic a world destined to darkness is tortured by a stubborn light. Cowards try to hide their cowardice with a desire of peace. Real courage dissolved time ago." Becomes Hidrated "This world must come back to that glorious age. It will knee in front of me, its true master. This means to be a King, Watch closely, the advent of the autentic King and the birth of a new world" Same thing goes for Zelda when she transforms into a dragon, in english she says "Link! Protect them all!", while in italian is "Link! I believe in you!"
Would prefer to see the different language texts too, the English script deviates one and each has their own little quirks that would be interesting to compare.
Honestly, the Latin America voice actor probably wins it out of them all. German is a close second, English third. I was looking for the voices that had that “timber” quality and these three produced the darkest, deepest voices that I think are appropriate for the kind of Ganondorf Nintendo is trying to convey.
@@dreadnaught1445As a latin American myself I must say that Mummy ganondorf’s voice is better in the spanish dub than in latin dub. Here's a rough translation of the Japanese original: How regrettable A world that should be filled with darkness overflows with abominable light Rampant with a swarm of fools who crave peace It used to feel more grit From here, I'll restore this land to its proper form The world is to be ruled by me, determined by me That's what a king is "The one resurrected from the seal." "Demon King Ganondorf" Carefully observe the true king's resurrection and the beginning of that world!
7:36 "How dissapointing. This world was already dedicated to darkness but this shameful light has layed over it. Now it only reeks of cowards who's nothing worth more than their crappy peace. Back then jt was different, everywhere was fighting spirit. But now i will being the world its former glory. I will form it in my will and reign over it. Just as a King should. Look closely, the true king has returned. His world will rebuild today!" Roughly translated by myself to make it slightly more dramatic but not too much. I just really like hiw thus version fives a little bit more reason for his behavior, it is still very bland tho. The line deliver is still fantastic for a german dub, really like how it turned out.

Actually, Japanese voice and English are different. "...deplorable. This world, which should be filled with darkness, is flooded with light and teeming with hordes of lunatics who crave peace." Italian changed the wording for the better "it is what it means to be the King." "Cowards pass their cowardice as peace. Real courage was lost long ago" So it takes the cake for me Then japan and english are quite similar and get second in my opinion Third for spanish (latin) as he does the change between the two voices the more impactful imo Then I cannot talk about the wording because I do not understand the other languages.
