Gangsta's Paradise beat STIFF competition for this awards. The song only charted for 19 weeks and still snagged the topped the 1995 Year-end chart. It SOLD MANY COPIES! 3x platinum! Shout out to TLC for having 2 songs in the Top 5 songs of the year! That's NOT easy!
I love how Coolio & LV colaborated with the legendary Stevie Wonder on this performance. Two different genres of music well blended together. The original song is "past time paradise" by Stevie Wonder. 2022 and still love this song. One of the greatest rap songs ever made.
I'm so glad I was born in the 80's and was able to live the essence of the 90's, the best decade without a doubt. This was music! Rest in peace, master.
An absolutely memorable and meaningful performance. Colios lyrics are as important now as it was then. Ain't no gangstas living in paradise. RIP Colio.
i think what i love most about this video is how they incorporate two seemingly different genres of music- rap and classical, children of all races and creeds, and a classic musician. it's absolutely beautiful.
From the chorus to the violinists, from Coolio to L.V to Stevie Wonder, everything in this presentation was pure talent 👏🏻 "Ain't no gangster living in paradise, ain't no racist living in paradise" ❤
Damn, I remember when gangstas paradise came out... I was 11. I STILL bump it, I now understand what THAT songs about. But I’ll admit, I’m 35 now and never ever knew Stevie Wonder made past time paradise until yesterday.. I cried, it was “Wonderful.” 😊✊🇺🇸

Marisa no it didn’t win. The first rap song to win best original song was lose yourself from Eminem. I don’t kno who won in 1995 but it wasn’t coolio. I’m sure it was a film from Disney or Pixar
no... this son was not nominated... oscar DO NOT give award remake song... they give award only NEW song..... whitney's mega hit i'll always love you didn't nominated(remake...)
Amazing...Simply amazing. I love it when they organize an orchestra with a choir and have a musical legend join the artists one stage for a ballad that'll transcend time. Coolio and LV will remember this day and speak of it til the day they die.
I remember this song too. I was only in six grade and I did not understand the meaning. Now that I look back I understand why this song was so popular. I don't like rap but this song really went beyond any song of their time. Its like shinning a light on the issues of death, poverty, and the division of races. I haven't heard a song as powerful as this song since then.
Man… RIP Coolio… I never noticed until today that he changed the lyric “raised by the street life” to “raised by the state” whenever he performed the song live. He was such a badass. Also, the live performances in hip hop back then compared to today are WILD.
