Ganzo G704-G Knife 

To my knowledge from what I have gathered from knife forums (Bladeforums, etc...). Sanrenmu/Land, Enlan/Bee, Ganzo, Tekut and Navy (are 5 separate companies with different ownership) are all regarded as High Quality Chinese Knife Manufacturers. They make knives so well that many Name brand knife companies such as Spyderco, Benchmade, Kershaw, etc.. have turned to them to manufacture some of their more affordable budget line of blades. Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on your matter of view) they do create certain knives that are unlicensed copies/clones of much higher end knives, such as Chris Reeve & Rick Hinderer designed knives. They do make some of their own designs as well. The general consensus on the build quality of these knives are that they are very well built with pretty good materials for what you pay (usually between $10-$20). They are definitely high value knives for the money, sometimes surpassing quality over name brand knives 2-3 times the cost of these. The topic on whether it is morally correct/incorrect to buy these knives and support these Chinese companies is not something I'm willing to debate. Ultimately it is up to you whether you decide to purchase one of these knives or not! :) In my opinion if you only have $10-$20 to spend on a folding pocket knife. You will get a much higher quality knife from Sanrenmu/Land, Enlan/Bee, Ganzo, Tekut, Navy, Inron or Harnds when compared to sub $20 offerings from companies such as Kershaw, Byrd, CRKT, SOG, Buck, Gerber, etc... Most of these sub $20 Chinese knives have premium materials such as G10 or Micarta handle scales and 8cr13mov (Chinese AUS-8 equivalent) or 9cr18mov (440C equivalent), and the majority of them feature stainless steel frame locks as well as using premium features such as the unlicensed Benchmade Axis Lock as in the reviewed Ganzo G704-G model. Most name brand knife companies use cheaper materials in their budget line of blades, such as 440A, 420HC (Buck, though their Heat Treatment is top notch), 420J2 (CRKT) or 8cr13mov as well (Byrd/Spyderco). They also use cheaper handle materials such as plastic/polymer, polypropelene, aluminum, 420J2 stainless or lower, FRN, etc... & the majority of these sub $20 knives are liner lock/ lock back frames compared to the usually preferred frame lock of higher end model knives. Anyways that's my input! :-)

After 69 days of waiting, I finally got my Ganzo G704 today (from China to Cancun, Mexico). The lock is very stiff. I cannot play with it the same way I can play with a Benchmade. I hope it gets better after some polishing and lubrication. It was so-so sharp. But after I sharpen for a few minutes it is razor sharp now, in fact I was able to shave some hair on my left arm. It takes a very good edge. I don’t know if it is the steel or the blade geometry but it gets sharper than my Spyderco Endura.

I just got mine today and it looks great. I ordered from the Fasttech link you had up. Instead of "Free Shipping" I picked the USPS one that added a whopping .38 cents. Took a total of 7 days to get the knife. Well worth it I think. Thanks again Fred for the great video and information.

Yea they are great knives! And it's not like they are fakes or anything. They have contracts with Benchmade to make their products which some how allows them to also use the designs in their own knives too. So it's Benchmade design but with less expensive materials.

my favorite ganzo knife besides the 720 but different beast all together..but for everyhing else..definately the 704

I just got my GANZO G704 on Friday and like you said it took a good long time to get it, love it, for $16 bucks you can not beat that deal. a heavy knife!!! The only thing I did not get the sheath with it, no big deal about that I have a few sheaths around here that fits it. like all your videos lots of good infor. you put out there.

Great review..I use fastech alot and I am in UK and always pay the extra 50-60 cents for tracked delivery and always arrives here within 2 weeks. Ganzo and sanrenmu make some amazing knifes for the money.

Great review, I love my one! As it was one of two Ganzo knives that I managed to buy, as they usually won't make through Australian Customs.

Ordered one on eBay. USA shipped for $26 and they offered like 6 or 7 colors. Can't wait to add it to my EDC lineup.

OK...so I bought this knife from Fasttech.com (ex-China) and it arrived at Switzerland in about 2 weeks. You're right...an incredible value. US$16.22 plus 50 cents for faster air shipping. OMG...do they even have a profit margin for either OEM or distributor? Probably single digits for both...gross margin that is.. This thing came out of the box and functioned as smooth as silk. Best axis style lock I've ever used. What a surprise. Quick, smooth...no blade play. Knife was reasonably sharp...but I still sharpened and honed it to a hair popping edge. Extremely comfortable to hold with a solid/no slip grip and thumb ramp/gimping to boot. I got the green with black hardware combo...looks great. Fit and finish...great. What would make this a perfect knife for me (?): 1) skeletonized steel inner liners, 2) dark stone washed blade and steel liners. Already posed the question to LadyLizardGear.com, a US aftermarket customizer, if they plan to offer a custom version of this knife. I've bought custom acid etched knives, like the Ganzo G712 and Enlan EL08, from LLG in the past. Might have to send this one in for the perfect upgrade. Then again...at $16.72 !!!!! it really can't get any better. Of course...then the G720-O arrived and made my jaw drop even lower. Another great knife..could also use the skeletonization of liners...but at US$23.23 for the Hulk of folders..it's also a perfect deal.

Tell me something please, how did the axis lock hold up so far under normal use? I want to get this Ganzo as a beater EDC but I've also heard that axis lock springs are not very durable. Is it worth it, long term? I know it's super cheap, it's just that I'm a little ocd and I don't like potentially flimsy stuff, lol. Thanks

I love ganzos. I have bought a few of their knives like their bedlam and onslaught clones. The are made with great quality and a decent steel. I usually end up giving them away, but at that price I don't mind.

Im getting that this week, just wish the blade was black coating, or black oxidie. to help prevent extra or a little protection from oxidation or rusting.

The black handle version is an even better deal - $15.73 shipped! They're $19.99 on Amazon. Not sure where to order from. Amazon says 7-15 days, but you say Fasttech is over a month. May be worth the extra 4 bucks to save a few weeks.

I have 4 of these in different colors. Great knife, really enjoyable to use. One of mine is the older version with thinner blade. The new version is much nicer.

If your into this knife you should check out the Enlan EL-01. You can find them all over eBay or Amazon. They run anywhere from 15-30 bucks and they are resemble a Hinderer XM-18. Check it out and let me know. I love mine. Carry it every day and not afraid to beat the crap out of it.

I haven't really done this before, but I've been following Fred for a while. I watched this video, and ordered this knife from fastech on april 12. (fully prepared to wait...) It arrived today, april 21, from china. Great knife for $16! And 9 days???!! Cant beat that. I wonder why they made you wait so long, fred??? :-)

On most Benchmades the blade will drop when the lock is released. It didn't appear to do that when you released the lock. I was just wondering if maybe the pivot screw may be to tight. You should take it out in the garage and see how sharp you can get it and do a update. Sixteen dollars seems to good to be true.

Wow Firebird re-released this knife now it's the F-704 the liners are skeletonized and it came with a little bag instead of a sheath. I would rather have had the sheath anyway excellent deal lighter than the original.

You should check out Sanrenmu and Enlan knives if you haven't already. They are high value chinese brand knives.
