I feel like you could possibly put the cars closer together to fit an additional 3 cars next insert you make try putting the blanks together a bit more a pencil thin layer of foam is enough to protect them and gives you room for a few more cars saves on wasted space and you could magnetize your cars and have a neodymium magnet in each hole to hold them there better
The diorama was beautiful. I can give you a suggestion. In the next place, put a box with a drawer, to take it out and put the cars on top more easily.
Would be cool if the top part was also foldable, like those children books that you open and a spatial scenery unfolds. That would be quite a challenge though.
