Nice, gonna do it your way. Hesitant in regards to messing with the tension pulley set screws , this looks easier thanks for passing the knowledge

I watched another video where they replaced the cables with the door down and loosened the bolts on the pulley, then installed the cable on the slot on the pulley then the loop onto the other end then rotate the pulley back to put tension on it and tighten the bolts and then lift it manually to insure proper alignment. Then hook your safety back to the motor and try it. But this video was very good to do with the door up!!

I always change cables with door on ground as a rule ...tech since 93'..too many reasons to explain here , still glad it worked for you

So with door closed, you would lock off torsion bar with vice grips, then loosen spool reel, R and R cable, then lock spool/reel back down...?

Buck the springs..tube is loose..reset new cables on drums left to right ..just like new install..sometimes loop ends are hard to get in if there is brick or block.

No ..I use winding bars to Buck springs loosening set screws so they don't have to be unwound..replace cable ... locking with vise grip on left side,.then right side..unbuck springs..then done

I am new at this. When it comes to garage doors I have to think twice about it. Your video is great and the close-ups are nice and clear. You are great. Thank you for sharing this with us.

Hi Todd. Excellent video! Thank you for posting this. I really learned a lot. Glad you pointed out the safety isses with doing a project like this. I understand there's a lot of torgue on that cable! Really appreciate you showing the camera angles (superb) and wearing that mic really helped with the audio. Fantastic! Thanks again. Great looking garage too! Thanks again.

Thanks for the video. I just went thru replacing all of my rollers to upgraded nylon ones plus the hinges. Big difference in noise and function. Curious, they look to be stainless steel or aluminum cables, (I looked at the link, actually says “wood”, haha). Thank you again for taking the time to shoot this video.

Man I would have leather gloves on playing with cables like that. Even on the brand new cables you would be surprised how many times there are tiny little broken strands and sliding your hands down the cables will definitely get you. It does hurt and makes you bleed.also I would try closing door down by hand first cause if something is wrong you can always stop probably faster than hitting the button. But nice job. The whole time I was thinking about your hands with no gloves. You done good though.

Did the cables really measure 9 foot 6 in for a 8 ft door I’m trying to use a universal kit with Farrell and was curious if that was the actual length of the cable that you mentioned in video

Hi, my only suggestion is to check the amazon link in the video description of the cable-set I ordered for our 8' door. You may be able to get more information from the product link: Pair of 8' Garage Door Cable For Torsion Springs | amzn.to/34qsU7U

I have same set up as you do with the liftmaster on side having that black roller that rests on the cable, im just currious that when the garage door is down on the side that doesnt have the lifemaster on is the cable suppose to be very slack not being tight? The side where the liftmaster is mounted that cable feels very snug so do you think i should take cable off the other side & rewrap it around the cable spool? Not sure if i have unloosen the square headed bolts on the spool though to get cable snugger? It just doesnt seem right to leave cable flexable even though it wraps around spool right just not sure bout the slack?

Great stuff. I wonder how you select a cable that won't puke out like the old ones. That really looked atrocious. It would be nice to know you're good for 30 more years, and not 2, on the replacement.

I'm not sure if you fixed it right do to you not opening it up without re. Adjusting them springs seems the lost tension when the wires snapped.

Next time undo the 2 bolts holding that wheel to the shaft as it makes it a lot easier to roll off/on the new cable.
@motoceg
@motoceg Год назад
Undoing the bolt on the drum is a no-no as it will change the distance of travel. You need to leave them there to keep it the same as it was originally installed!
@myutube6422
@myutube6422 Год назад
@@motoceg I've replaced and adjusted many garage doors. All you need to do is when the door is down, put the cable on the drum, rotate it, and use the groves as a guide rotating it to where the cable is tight. Then tighten the 2 bolts.

@@myutube6422 that’s a different story when the door is down , and you didn’t say that and that’s not what he’s doing in the video he’s doing it while it up! By the way, I have done several thousand1

@@myutube6422 If the door is down the torsion spring is loaded. Doesn't the torsion rod have to be vice gripped or the torsion spring itself secured with winding rods so you can safely loosen the bolts on the drum? Question from a rook?...
@myutube6422
@myutube6422 4 месяца назад
@@tompem It's late and I've had a couple of drinks :o) IMO it never hurts to "clamp" the spring in place. But, I think that the drum/cable on the other end will keep the spring/rod in place.
