No removal of the opener bar. I only replaced the outer portion of the header and left the inner header in place. Other wise yes you would have to prop up the opener bar. Thanks for watching
Looks like a lot of work for nothing. As you said, it was not failing... even after 23 yrs of your ownership... so was clearly structurally sound. Framing doesn't have to be pretty to be functional. Some framing is structural... other framing is functional. And if there is no issue with the structural or the functionality--then the framing is doing its job. You could have easily just sistered a few new pieces to the existing anywhere it was undermined by termite or rot and it would have lasted another 25+ yrs.
