Still without power/heat/water due to recent storm, currently in Dunkin Donuts editing some vlogs. Most likely vlogs will be delayed a couple days. Everyone please stay safe. Should have power back on sometime Wednesday. And everything should resume normally from there.
WHOA !!!!!!! I was hoping you all would be getting some early Spring weather there , can't give up hope it will eventually show up ,hang in there Taco and stay safe
Beautiful Victorian pieces are being cast to the side of the road for trash day; the young kids want IKEA and Mid Century Modern. Many do not even remember growing up with Victorian furniture with either their parents or grandparents. Truly sad. In our city, once a year, a massive throw out day with furniture, lamps, and assorted "stuff". The pickers cruising the streets for hours and hours picking up great finds to re-sell. We live in a throw away society and it says something about how so many things are disposable.
You are so right! I just came across 5 fans that a home owner was throwing away because she got central air installed and didn't have a use for them. She also had couches, tables and dressers out for garbage pickup because she got new stuff and the old stuff had to go so she just stuck it to the curb to be taken away by the garbage men
Last week I came across a house flipper throwing out an entire, basically brand new $1200 dining room set that I picked up. Before watching these videos I honestly probably would’ve driven past it.
Amelia B had my great grandmother's.....loved it until the handle just snapped from age. Still have the tool....just needs a new handle. Pack rat mentality. That one was a Lifetime Craftsman. I guess Sears' lifetime.
That's nice when people thank you for taking the stuff. Some people don't have the means or time to take things someplace, but feel bad throwing it in the garbage.
Great haul, Taco. I love the hat boxes. Glad you wentback for the $2M Picasso art piece. Hope your storms are done for the winter and you get your power back on soon.
I have seen used, painted canvases taken off the stretcher and resewn into tote bags - EXPENSIVE tote bags! They are all one of a kind, and can have other fabrics added to the sides or bottom, or if big enough, just sewn with handles, and a lining. A great, fun use for almost any oil or acrylic painting on canvas.
I’d buy that map, it’s beautiful for an office wall! Book shelves could be cleaned up, kids bedrooms always need shelves.... Lots of young families need furniture and can’t afford new, kids never mind if it’s used, they’ll love it because they need it. It’s amazing what a fresh coat of paint will do to an old item and the child will be so proud to show it off to a friend.
I like that you even find a few things you can use in your own life. Broom and dustpan. Big win. I got to have a set in the garage, one in the kitchen, one out on the back deck for around the pool.
Tree is nice. You are so right on cookbooks. My sister in law had hundreds, no joke, and when she had to down size they got sold by the pound. Beautiful like new cookbooks she paid top dollar for. what a waste.
I’ve determined that the best way is to take out cookbooks from the library, go through them and select my choice of nice recipes, then put them into a recipe program. That way I don’t have a huge bookshelf of seldom, sometimes never, used books.
so sad @@cynthiamoon372 but I like your idea, keep an electronic file of best loved recipes. I keep forgetting to record my successes in the kitchen. My friends want me to bake some bread I shared and I can't remember what I used. Now they are out of luck.
I always thank homeowner's for letting me take their garbage and most people joke with me that I can take it all away. I actually did take all of it once and the lady said" thanks for freeing my curb of all that garbage" lllt
NY Times once reported on a rare painting rescued from beside the curb. Owner had it hanging in his apt for years before learning of its importance. Worth $ millions!
I'm new to your channel I love the name!! I have watch some of your videos but just today decide to subscribe I can believed all the nice things that you find... god job Mr. Taco Stacks.
As long as the frames aren't warped, you can paint over canvas and do another painting on top of the paintings that are less attractive. See if there is a signature on the tree painting and google the artist.
The big clear plastic thing with the watering cups I got at a local yard sale shack and use in the summer time to water my chickens, I paid $2.😊 the artwork people might even buy to paint over, good sized canvas or painting surface.
Another great video. Agree wit others, always buy canvas. Crafters and upcyclers, on this coast anyway use anything eclectic for crafting. My next project is to make christmas wreaths, of a sort using picture frames. The woman selling the place we are in now was a hoarder. The cottage came furnished which really meant we got to throw it out! Repainted a few things, saved some pine shelving but rest was black mold, spiders and scorpions!!! But I saved many picture frames from horrible art. But also many posters and framed book pages, some really old, of local area actually which I gave to the local little museum. Sure they could be worth money in a certain way but no one around here is really going to pay their value and museum so excited to get.
Art is in the eye of the beholder! LOL There was an obscure song many years ago that I often sing to myself when I go to art galleries or museums... Everybody knows that this aint art They're either lying or their fooling themselves Everybody knows that it has a lot of heart, but everybody knows it aint art!
Awesome verse. Yep it is from the heart, most art is created from. But I like to teach how to make things look real, repeating lines and forms to size, sensitivity etc. I agree a lot of art in museums has gotten a lot of hype and respect where there really is nothing much there. Even a lot of Picasso works were made for retail, repeating same themes and character. but you know how much he was revered, so it sells. So look for the art that is made with talent and care to own and occupy your space.
I've always thrown a lot of good things away when is move out of an apartment because I just didn't have room in my new apartment or,was tired of looking at my old stuff. I always knew someone would pick it anyways at the Dumpster
Good scores in the snow! I taco stacked it at the auction last night, at the end there were some box lots for $5 each, so some good pick-ups for garage sale :)
Hey Taco. Another great video. I am glad you went back and got that other painting. I like the tree and the last one you had picked up, but left at first. The two red ones, not my favorite, but someone might like them. That one book in the box was a bible, not just a junky romance. Hat boxes are always a good sale. Thanks for sharing, hope you get power and all soon. Take care and be safe.
Great score! Hat boxes are highly collectible...anything vintage. Vintage is in BIG TIME with the ladies. Make-up, albums, clothes, pictures, furniture..even beat up. The monkey painting I'd sell for $35...down to $15. The big ones $35..they're original...if not damaged by the snow. Probable the tree one $25. Haggle room. Depending on your flea market. You got some nice stuff.
I ditto the title name. I love it when people move out because they often leave out items that they can't bring with them. Otherwise, their large items are too big to fit in the U-Haul.
Just found you! Nice picks. Like the blue amphora and the tree painting and the painting you went back for. The other two someone will buy and gesso over and reuse the canvas. The hatboxes are popular. Loved when you were picking the toddler bed and the guy with the dumpster gave you the bedsprings for it. LOL! First time visitor. New sub!
8:00 couldn't help but notice you were on Awesome Drive. Haha I drive truck for a living and have seen some crazy/weird street names but I've never seen an Awesome Drive. Must be where that $680,000 house was. Haha great video man. 👍👍
Paultro 84, that is a great Street name. Near here, in the town of Jacksboro, TN, is a street named Janeway Lane (a reference to Captain Janeway of Star Trek Voyager.)
Taco stacker. It's time for some of your own power. Honda makes the best generator. For the size of your house about a 6000/7000 watt power plant. It's the deal or the way to go. Hope you stay warm !!!!!!!!!ps next time you think your going to lose power turn you icebox /refrigerator up too the highs cold point you can go...... keep the door closed as long as you can. It will take the food longer to thraw out.. good luck!!!!!! ps think you should get a safety vest to wear when your picketing because your crossing the street a lot of times You don't want our to get run over. Take care JUNKMANDO
I live in a huge apartment complex of at least 20 buildings, maybe more, and some times my neighbors through out some really nice stuff. Unfortunately I have to get rid a bunch of stuff in my spare bedroom because when I moved to where I live now I downsized big time but still have too much stuff. I love the metal bed frame that was picked up in this video.
Had to laugh when you said yes I leave my van running hoping someone steals it. Is that in response to my comment a while back. I might add I live in a gated community haha. those boxes make nice gift boxes nice picking
The blue and white ewer jar is unusual. I've never seen one with curved handles like that. That glossy map was a great find, too. We used to have a lot of stuff set out by people here in east TN, but now we have a Shepherd's Home store where most of the items are donated.
Art like beauty is in the eye of the beholder, give the paintings a good price with room to negotiate and see if the right buyer shows up. I hope your utilities come online soon, take care brother.
What' stuff you can find garbage picking!!! I just scored a box of 22 dvds, A Kinect fir the XBOX 360 and a controller for the 360 in a pile a family threw out!!! Keep up the great work!!!!!
Well hello again. And a good morning.love your videos 😍 great stuff. And most of all when u say that last good thing " peace " that is Awesome. Great view GOD BLESS
Artwork is usually depends on what strikes the buyer....canvas art is popular because its lightweight and usually is done by artists who have good talent so can appeal to many people looking for art for their walls...
That long craftsman thing is a weed knife, for killing dandelions etc by cutting the main roots. Here's hoping the power gets back sooner than expected.
I'M SO HAPPY , YOU RUN INTO NICE PEOPLE , RESTORES MY FAITH IN HUMAN-KIND............I didn't like that vase laying against that glass picture though....................COOL HAUL , thanks for sharing............
My husband loved cook books also, he loved to cook. He would buy them, get them for gifts from people that knew he loved them. He passed away 2 years ago. I DON'T like to cook or like cook books, so I took some of his favorite cook books & taped a picture of him inside it & wrote his birth date & death date & gave them to his friends & some family members. They loved them. I did keep a couple, just because they were his.
When you find more worn teflon pans (especially a little deeper like the one you found) if you're selling at a flea market throw a couple of herb plants in to give people another way to use it. The lid could easily be turned into a hanging light with light kits. Just an idea for the future. You could charge more for the lamp if you do that.
Been watching all your vids as always.... They have a comforting aspect to them for me. I haven't had a chance to comment on all of them though. But this particular one with the art pieces, I just had to. I also watch Tucker Upper all the time (actually it was his shout out about you that got me to start to watch last year around June/July). I know he & Sammie make art and so do I. I'm currently getting my Masters in it. Those paintings definitely look homemade but I would buy them in a second just for the canvases. I love the size & shape of the big ones. The little monkey is kind of strange one but looks more professionally done. You might look into that one if you could find some history; maybe under folk art or something. The poster of the woman's faces looks like it's from the late sixties/ early seventies style and could be worth a pretty penny. Anyway, hope things work out with you either way regarding the snow storm and $$ wise. Take care Taco, stay safe!!
Art is subjective. One person can and will love the art you picked; while others like myself think you should have left it in the garbage. 😂 still your videos continue to be excellent examples of information and entertainment. I look forward to each one and wish you could do more.
The house across from me was cleaning out & I spoted this cool piece of oil painting, it was a 18x24 size so I walked over & brought it home, still hangs on my wall, I've had so many compliments on it. A painting, night on half and day on the other half of a park over looking the city, it's so cool.
I had entered a painting into a poster design competition for a national ice skating competition. I didn't win and I really didn't love the painting because I am just not into ice skating. So I decided to curb it along with another piece I did. A Mom saw it and stopped. She came to my door and said thank you for the piece because her daughter was obsessed with ice skating. I'm glad that even though I did not make any money I did make a little girl's day.
Sweet story about how thoughtful little things can make you feel good. Your reject made the woman and daughter feel good, the woman made you feel good, and you made me and a few others smile tto read this, thanks. :)
When people move out they get rid of so many things and they don’t even bother to see the value of what they are throwing out. It’s so funny. They don’t even want to sell it online. That is how you make some good profit.
mynewname omg whatever. That is definitely not the case for majority of people. Most people just don't want to bother with things. I know this because when my husband and i had to move out of our apartmenta we didnt have time nor felt like packing every little item. We also had so much stuff that was still good that we didnt use anymore. We didn't have time to take it to goodwill or whatever so we set it out purposely so people would come and take it away.
I mean its can take a lot of work I think I sell around 100 items a month just on the side and it doesnt take a lot of work at all really. D: some packaging stuff just sits in the closet until I need it and takes about 5 minutes to stick whatever in a bag and to the post office D:
you find pretty cool stuff, you are right i have thrown away so much stuff, bad you were not in our neighborhood...yikes, i think this is pretty neat and fun to do...!! love it...
Nothing like commenting on a 10 month old vlog...but I just had to say that one of the hat boxes you picked up, the one with the purple flowers, is from Bonwit Teller. A high end store that is now closed...those boxes are highly collectible and go for big bucks! I'm bingeing your video's! Love em! Keep livin' that Dream! 😁
