The Fruit and Spice Park in Redland, Florida has an unmarked garcinia intermedia It is near , across the sidewalk , of the Olosapo tree

KennyT good tip.

Can confirm, I know that tree KennyT. I don't think this is a lemon drop based on the size and description of the fruit. Maybe it is a hybrid or something else?

That tree across from the large olosapo is labeled rheedia, garcinia sp. The fruit are smaller and more orange-colored. I found it with just a few fruit left on Jun. 11, 2020

Garcinia intermedia is the lemon drop mangosteen you tried in ep. 42. This one looks like the original G. humilis (Achachairu) from Bolivia. The one from Australia is a different variation with less rounded fruit. The farm in Australia purposely found a distinct variation so they could patent the variety.

I think it’s actually Garcinia gardneriana. Looks a LOT like it.
@MHFley
@MHFley 7 месяцев назад
hehe tell you what, I have at least 3 different varieties of garcinia intermedia trees myself. One has extremely thin transparent skin orange flesh and is oval shaped, the second one is also oval shaped and with orange flesh but much bigger and the third one is round with white flesh and with thick skin. Even th trees are very different, the ones with small fruits are very thick bushes, the ones with bigger fruits are also bigger trees with bigger leaves and the ones with round fruits are much less dense in leaves. But in their structure and leaf shape you can notice they all share the same structures. What I've learnd about this species is it is incredibly variable both in fruit and in the tree, you can easily think they're different species when they're all the same.

That is very large and round for Achachairu, I eat them every time I go to Santa Cruz Bolivia, there is a small town called porongo that grows them and they have a festival.

Lucs Mexican garcinia mangosteen. I think in Mexico it's called Limoncillo.

Do you happen to remember the approximate diameter of this fruit? This information would be very useful for identification. Garcinia Intermedia fruits are typically Ø3cm; in the video, the fruits appear quite larger.

It''s such a shame. Argentina's just south of Bolivia which has all these crazy, wild fruit, but nobody there's ever heard of a achachairu, or pacay, or any of those other things. You'd be lucky to even find a loquat or cherimoya there...
@marcosmusixpcmusicam
@marcosmusixpcmusicam 7 лет назад
I am from Argentina and grow garcinia brasilensis, 1m tall (or, we think that it is brasilensis, but it could be intermedia too...), at Misiones they call it pacurí, or bacuparí... I hope I can taste it in 3 years or so...
@davids.5083
@davids.5083 7 лет назад
Ah, that's interesting. I am originally from Cordoba province, and my mother's family was from Catamarca, so we never saw it, at least not sold commercially. My dad's family is from Misiones and Formosa. I haven't been but he tells us there's a little more variety there, but he's never told me of any garcinias.

I've seen these called "yellow mangosteen" and apparently they are called achacha in Bolivia addition to the more famous Garcinia Humilis (achacha). The Humilis is the one famous in Australia. Could be wrong.

This is almost certainly not G.intermedia or G.brasiliensis, as they are juicy, small and with a scant amount of flesh. Have no idea what this could be though.

I'm going to the (Ohio) state capital this weekend and stopping at the huge international market there. I'm hoping to find a few weird fruits to try. Last time I went, I wasn't adventurous enough to get anything except a golden kiwi and an asian pear.

I did further Research and I found out that that is a Garcinia Intermedia, but the one you got was a touch over ripe, so it was confusing cause it didn't have the distinct yellow color! I hope I can help!

This looks like the description and photos of Luc's Garcinia, or Limoncillo - Garcinia Vleerackeii that I've been reading here: www.daleysfruit.com.au/Lucs-Garcenia-Limoncillo.htm
@I.amthatrealJuan
@I.amthatrealJuan 7 лет назад
Ian Woolf Wait, that fruit is found on Mexico. I would be surprised that it would be found in Bolivia. Luc's Garcinia flesh also seems to have a much thicker flesh than this one. G. Vleerackeri is just a tentative name, not officially validated if it indeed is a new species.
@IanWoolf
