So excited my Egyptian onions are finally having its babies!! Woohooo!! 🎉❤ it took me years of set of failed bulbs 😂 cuz they were planted at wrong season and 8 out of my 10 died but somehow 2 just popped up finally outta nowhere. I had given up on them and threw them in the compost soil. Now they aliving making babies! Woot! Woot!! 🎉❤🎉❤
@marthasundquist5761
@marthasundquist5761 10 дней назад
I live in Central KS. I made the mistake of not harvesting any of mine last year, and their babies are trying to take over my veggie plot...lol...soil moisture when the babies are planted is about all that is needed for them to root. This year, I have removed all the babies, will plant some in fall as they popped up in February this year and started growing great guns. In the snow! I did pull a few babies off in March from last year and popped those in the ground along the outer border to repel moles and voles. I have so many babies, I am trying out making pickled onions from them. They are a bit of work...salt water soak over night, then plopped into boiling water for a few minutes to loosen the skin casing, and then popping out the 'pearl' onions, then making pickle brine and water bathing. Pretty time intensive. Not worth it unless you have some hazelnut or a bit larger sized babies.
@OffgridDreamers
@OffgridDreamers 9 дней назад
@@marthasundquist5761 cool idea pickled onions never heard of that . I hope I get tons of babies more the merrier lol its so exciting I've been waiting and wanting these for years and it's finally happening woo hoo I love raw onion whether as using them like green onions or using the bulbs, well of course of cooking too. So yeah keep them coming I don't wanna deplete my harvest ever lol 😆 I watch Robbie and Gary Easy Gardening love their channel , she's got hundreds of walking onions all over she's the one that inspired me for them. No matter where she goes in her various gardens her walking onions follow and she has a constant supply and I love that so much. Just the natural way they replenish themselves.

Mrs. H.: there are literally millions of spider per acre outside. Without them the other insects would be totally out of control. But a spider does occasionally take me by surprise. I do not want them in the house. Perhaps you should shake the blades upside down for a few moments over the sink or submerge them in a bucket or sink of water to flush out the bugs. I agree about using whatever kitchen tools you have to make the job easier. You appear to have a mountain of onions to process. If you make onion powder it is important to put a desiccant pack or two to keep your onion powder from becoming a brick in the jar and vacuum seal it if you can between uses. A dull knife blade or food processor blade will bruise the cells in an onion or a high sugar content will cause your shredded onions to turn pink. A little color in our food adds eye appeal especially in winter, use them as a pretty garnish for potato salad or any other dish that has less color. You never need to apologize for allowing one small are of your massive gardens to get out of control. We are all amazed at the amount of work you do. You are such a lovely person and you are helping those people who don't know how to do the things you demo on this channel.
