I have SO many seeds that I couldn’t justify ordering more right now. I’m glad that I got to see you open your seeds at least! I love how you explain the plant life cycle. You make plants come alive and have wishes and intentions. I feel like I’m watching an Animal Kingdom documentary. “The chard sees the hungry bunny and releases chemicals to make its leaves bitter. As the bunny takes a bite and hops away, the chard breathes a sigh of relief, knowing her seeds will be on their way soon.” 🤣🤣🤣 You’re the best Jess ❤

It thrills my heart that Jess is feeling so much better :) I too was extremely ill on death's doorstep, and the Lord led me to go carnivore. I fully healed with a year of carnivore, and even healed my thyroid (and I was on tons of thyroid meds for years), and no longer need any meds. After a few years of mostly carnivore (I would eat roasted brussel sprouts, and other CLEAN veggies...anything God gives us for food), my body started craving some carbs. I started added some CLEAN carbs (like italian pasta once per week, NO PROCESSED AMERICAN CARBS) back in, and my body was very happy again. I'm still mostly carnivore, but it's clear our bodies tell us what it needs as we move through this life...we just have to pay attention to what it tells us :) Your content helps me so so much, THANK YOU! This is my first year trying a Fall/Winter garden :)

So I listened to everyone who said pineapple ground cherries were notoriously hard to germinate. Then I bought a pack from botanical interest! I decided to follow the instructions and put 3 seeds per cell and I did 4 cells hoping to just get 1 or 2 to germinate. Yall let me tell you... every single one germinated, and I didn't have the heart to thin them! I ended up giving 10 plants away and keeping 2. This year I pulled up 40+ ground cherry plants growing between the pavers that make up a outside seating area where one of my pots were last year, and I kept the 8 that popped up in a bed on the side yard. Bless the heart of the people who rent this house after we move out in a few weeks cuz they aren't guna kow what hit em when they start popping up next year lol. Side note I've had absolutely amazing germination rates with botanical interests seeds. They make up probably about 1/2 of my seed collection. They also carry the tulsi yall grow

During lockdown had some seed that was almost two decades old with 9/10 germination. Had plants coming out of my ears as I had “compensated” for the age of the seed. Note: I have had more difficulty the past two years. Found that the tap water has a new chemical trio that is designed to impede germination and plant growth in the water system. Now use rainwater or water from the burke water filter and germination is on the uptick.

To anyone else on a fixed income and has little to no yard and wants to grow your own food this is what I did. I purchased a Tower Garden system and put it in my kitchen corner. It’s 108$ a month interest free for 1 year. My 16X16’ backyard has been given to my 13 hens and 1 rooster my chickens are bantam Cochin and started laying a few weeks ago, I’m getting 10-13 eggs a day. I no longer have to purchase any vegetables from the store. By doing this I have become more self sufficient I grow potatoes in grow bags on my patio along with melon plants. In my tower garden I’m growing 40 plants in 2 square feet of space, here’s what I’m growing: Dwarf tomatoes x3 Space maker cucumbers x2 Hunny Nut squash Zucchini Lettuce 3 plants Spinach x3 Calabrian peppers x2 Lunchbox peppers x2 Acorn squash Strawberries x6 Parsley Fennel x4 Butterbush Squash Dwarf peas x2 Sage Plus 6 seedlings I just started including celery, kohlrabi, Pablo lettuce.

I like your seed haul. I just placed an order with Botanical Interest a few hours before seeing this. Needed some flower seeds and picked up a few varieties for the veggie garden. Great suggestion buying seeds now and taking advantage of savings. When everyone is buying their seeds for the spring garden in the dead of winter, I am sowing my seeds for the garden. Some seeds; artichoke, asparagus and some flowers, need 12 weeks before your last frost date or may need to be started and planted before your last frost date. Since I am in zone 8a, this means starting some of my seeds in December, more in January and so forth. I need to get better at succession sowing and having transplants ready like Charles Dowding and James Prigioni.

Hey Jess- want to suggest that you try culantro. Tastes very close to cilantro. Looks completely different. I got a plant in the spring. Grew through the entire Florida summer. When it sends a stalk, cut it off and it'll keep making leaves. I've used it fresh and dehydrated some in case my plant has an unfortunate incident. It's been a game changer for me. Love the taste & the smell. And it grew through the whole FLORIDA SUMMER, still going strong. Wanted to mention it. Thank you for all you've taught me. Blessings.
@betterthanedenoff-gridhome2935
You might want to try growing Popalo aka summer cilantro because Popalo grows well in heat and we love cilantro but I truly prefer Popalo for salsas in the summer. We bought our seeds from growing your greens out of California, 10 years ago and the Popalo volunteers every year.

Absolutely love the way you discuss the seeds you get. I definitely need to order som more seeds. Didn’t know about the lettuces, etc that prefer to be grown in the winter. Being in the high desert in Southern California gives me the time to grow all this stuff. Just really need a bigger garden. Lol thank you so very much for all the knowledge you have just given me. ❤I just placed my order of $54 to the Botanical Seed Company and ordered my catalogue too. Thank you

Very helpful - I also love ordering from botanical interests as I've never had a bad experience with germination. It makes me so happy to see a fellow gardener (Kevin) take over such an amazing company. Again, thank you for doing this! I need one like this for the summer garden hehe

37:13 Rutabagas are almost never seen around Oregon, in my 57 years of life at any rate. I have eaten them only once that I remember, and that was raw in a salad. I had no idea what these little orange squares that looked like cheddar cheese were, so I asked the chef owner of the little Italian restaurant we were in. He had procured a couple of bowling ball sized rutabagas from a local farmers market. I’ve seen them in the grocery stores before, but no one I know buys them. I’m putting them on my list of new things to try. =)

I ❤ botanical interests and I was super excited when Kevin purchased the company because we already use his seed starting trays too and we watch his channel. I have always had almost 100% germination. If something didn’t germ it’s usually an error I have made. I will purchase from other companies but BI is my first choice because they put the best direction and information on their packets. I need all the help I can get even after 20+ years of gardening. 😂

Jess have you tried growing Mashed Potato Squash? We tried it this year and oh my gosh it was amazing. We roadted it with avacardo oil and salt and pepper....kids loved it. Also North Georgia Candy Rocker was AMAZING as well. both new to us this year and quickly our new favorites!

Great video! I learned a lot of new things even though I grew up in a family that survived off of a huge garden and food preservation. Definitely enjoyed your suggestions for tasty uses of certain things, although I’m pretty convinced I will never enjoy Swiss Chard for anything other than how pretty it is. lol

I think you will love growing onions from seed! It is easy to grow so many and easy to save seeds from some that bolt to grow again the next year! And makes them like a penny an onion! I can't wait to see how they do for you!

I Love seed haul opening videos! They are exciting, inspiring and helpful when I go to order. Its like Christmas morning in the middle of the year! Thank you so much for your enthusiasm and all your inspirational videos. God Bless you and your family and the other people that help make your homestead beautiful and thriving. What you do is labor intensive, time consuming and I'm sure exhausting. I don't see how you put all together to share with us. But we thank you so much!

This year almost every single tomato seed from a 2013 Baker's Creek order germinated. 100% with most, only about 30% germination on Amish Paste though. I still call all of that a win. As far as the Botanical Interests packets, I LOVE LOVE LOVE them. I buy things from them just for the package. My butternut squash packet about 3 years ago, maybe more, were in the pamphlet type form. I love it too because I hate having to risk destroying the packet. I did, however, pick up 2x3 plastic envelopes to put my BI seeds in because I always open them to access interior info.

I thought I would rewatch this as I get ready to plan my spring garden for next year. I love your enthusiasm for seeds and the garden. I have just been gifted some grow light that were left in a space that was rented to a relative. That is a blessing in Oregon where the sun doesn't always shine.

I add tillage/daikon radishes to a broth soup. I usually use a chicken broth, and add some carrots, radishes, mushrooms, and green onion. Add whatever else you like but the daikons are delicious in this simple soup.

I have developed a chili sensitivity, so radishes of all kinds are what I use to make my food spicy. I hope to add chilies back very slowly-really pretty to grow.

Totally agree with you on chard. I'm not crazy about eating it but it's so pretty in the garden. My rabbits love it though so I usually grow for them...I love how it keeps on producing.

Make swis chard fritters,! like in Spain. Just saute it w a little watter, addlots of sweet onion (fried), and then, make a type of pancake mix with some flour milk and eggs and nutmeg to bind and fry them. You'll see that it loosses its earthy taste and becomes somewhat sweet.
