#roses #horse ploughing
A quick trip around the garden starting with my daily visit today from my mate, the Robin. The delay was me cutting the sunflower seeds in half. Not a lot going on in the garden, just starting to get ready for Autumn/Winter. Some friends and I went to the Weald of Kent Ploughing Match last Saturday and I took some short videos of two pairs of beautiful horses ploughing which are at the end of the video. I hope you like them.

@@lonesomeStu I’m glad to hear you enjoyed the tour Stu. Yes, still a bit of colour but things are set to get colder so we’ll see how things go. Cheers! P.

You'll miss that robin when he goes Peter - I had one that followed me into the garage where I store birdfood each morning a few years ago. At the moment the birdfood I put out is feeding badgers, squirrels, pheasants as well as garden birds. It's a busy time of year now, isn't it, getting the garden in shape for the winter - we get very cold evenings over here in the hilly west (3 degrees forecast for the end of the week), so I expect my toms will not not be worth keeping after this week. And we had truly torrential rain over two days last week too, the worst we've had while living here - there was an empty plastic container last week which now has 6 inches of rainwater in it - you can imagine what that did to the roses. Your Pink Flowercarpet is looking very good still. I enjoyed the ploughing!

Yes Nik, I guess I would miss him although we always seem to have a friendly Robin in the garden. He/she was there again this morning and getting quite vocal. I guess I should call him/her Edelweiss. I've been watching the rainfall across the country and think about you when I see all those huge blue areas swirling around on the weather forecasts. Our water buts are full again but we haven't had any where near the amount of rain you've had. On the weather forecast this morning they were taliking about -3' up in some parts of Scotland tonight! We've not got as low as you yet but watch this space. Fortunately we don't have badgers visiting us and I can't think I want them either. I don't put bird food out yet but will when the weather gets colder. Plenty of people around here feed the birds so they get by OK. Like you, my tomatoes have more or less finished now but they've done very well this year. More than enough out there to keep me busy for some time so I'll be off now. I hope things dry up for you soon. Cheers! P.

Good morning Dilly and I'm glad you like my little friend. He/she was there again this morning and is getting quite vocal now. 'Come on, where've you been?' As I said to Nik, I think I should name him/her, 'Edelweiss'. I hope your roses haven't suffered too much with the rain we've been having? Cheers! P.

Hello Peter, interesting video with the cute Robin and beautiful horses. Your garden has still got lots of colours, big blooms of Hydrangeas which can be used for in door arrangements with candles etc. You mentioned Compassion rose, a climber that I really like. Lovely Dahlia, the 🍊 colour! Thanks for sharing us your paradise! 🌹

Good morning Gemma and thanks for your comments. Robin, 'Edelweiss' was there again this morning to greet me. The horses were lovely and so well behaved. I guess if I want the Hydrangeas for decoration I should be cutting them off and storing them in the dry now? Yes, I know you too have a Compassion and I think it's a lovely rose. I've let mine get a bit too tall so I'll have to bring it down a bit this Autumn/Winter; some others too. I had a problem with the new Spring shoots a couple of years ago. They were all getting eaten. It turned out to be mice! I put traps up in the rose and caught the culprits. Problem solved! I hope your roses haven't suffered too much with the rain we've had recently. Cheers! P.

@@peterhaymaker7562 That‘s the first time I heard about mice eating roses new shoots, Jay Jay has problems with rabbits, probably it is tasty for them. My roses have few flowers and still lots of buds, drastic change of temperature 3 weeks ago then the heat came back for a short time and the ground is very dry. A lovely day to you Peter!🌹

@@rosegardengems Hi Gemma, The mice seem to prefer roses with red shoots rather than the green. I guess they’re sweeter or juicier. Fortunately I don’t get rabbits. Raining here again at the moment. I hope your roses come back into bloom for you soon. Cheers, P.
