I always give myself a "drop - dead date". All work ....other than watering and weeding stops between July 1 and Late Augaust. That is when I enjoy, admire, and plan. All of my planting and pruning and cutting back has been done. And if not....it can wait. Enjoy your gardens Erin, you worked hard. Now it's time to relax.

Erin, Regarding your potted pagoda dogwood, you can cut the bottom off of white pot leaving the sides of the pot intact. Remove the tree, turn the pot upside down, use a cutter or grinder to cut around the bottom perimeter. Place the bottomless potted tree on the lawn or soil and the tree will root into the ground. It will be permanent where you place it. I also love the elevated look and height of potted trees.
@TheImpatientGardener
@TheImpatientGardener 3 года назад
Unfortunately I feel like that's unlikely to work in this climate, but on top of that I like the pots where they soften the driveway a bit. I have seen Bunny Guinness do this to great effect but I'm not sure it would translate well in this case.

Everything in your gardens is looking so beautiful 🤩 Those poppies are stunning! A suggestion for your stock tank: we keep a cinderblock in the bottom of our fresh water cattle tanks and the fish hide in the block when they see a shadow of a bird or crane trying to catch them. That has worked great!

Great tour, yes it of great interest. Thank you for the great tip of winter sowing poppies. I did it with Laurens Grape, and as you said the blue leaves and the height are amazing. Love your pink ones. Love your coffee cups in the urn, they look great. I too am at the point of time to enjoy the garden. I told my husband no more flowers to plant, I just want to enjoy and do a little trimming here and there! :) It was nice how much you fit in video for 15 mins!

Everything looks healthy & ready to burst into full bloom any day! Well done with the beautiful pink poppies! I envy you northern gardeners & your good fortune with growing poppies. Here in Jacksonville, FL we have to put the seeds in the refrigerator to cold stratify. I've tried twice without any luck. So I've given up & moved on, but I love seeing your successful results. Thanks for the tour, Erin!💚

For your trees on the driveway, English gardener and designer Bunny Guinness recommends removing the bottom of the container and letting the tree roots find their own way down into the soil. She has done this and the trees can remain for many many years. I’m sure it would reduce the need to water as often as well…
@TheImpatientGardener
@TheImpatientGardener 3 года назад
You are on the same page as so many other people here! I love the effect Bunny gets doing that but unfortunately it wouldn't work in this instance as those pots are on blacktop (and there would not be room in the grass next to them) and really don't think there are a lot of pots (at least ones I can afford) that would be able to withstand too many years in that circumstance given our winters.

Your Yew reminds me of a Hersheys Kiss. 😀 My begonias just don't want to bloom it seems, not sure what I am doing wrong. I may be overwatering them. After whining about not getting any Laurens Grape poppies coming up I found one blooming today in my Secret Cottage Garden. I think my neighbors across the street heard me squeal with delight.
