This might be of interest. 'The National Trust has acknowledged that, despite previously stating that drones cannot be flown over its properties, it does not have the authority to enforce such a ban on flights over its land', UK Defence Journal article.
That specific acknowledgement came in writing from NT Central Office in Swindon in response to a FoIA request in May this year. Nearly 6 months later it has yet to filter down to those on the front line.

I have emailed NT filming office and told them i am sick of the lies and bull shit from their employees who are miss informed and have no idea of drone rules/laws, therefore i will be be taking my drone to NT sites and providing there are no FRZ i will be flying from public land...... i have heard nothing back! that speaks volumes!

The 1958 guy has no clue about the drone laws even though he thinks he does. He keeps talking about the "orientation" and you can't use navigation lights for orientation. No that isn't specified in the law. You you only need see which way it's facing. The lights are part of the drone to show orientation so you can use the lights to see the orientation.

The National Trust staff are being deliberately misinformed by senior executives. It is totally irresponsible for a national institution that knows the law AND allows this to continue but chooses to act in this way for its own commercial ideology.
Exactly - by now senior managemt will know eactly what the legal position is but they're happy to misinform and embarrass their own staff. It's clearly a commercial interest situation= the NT want to stop anyone else profiting from their estate. I think their commercial business activities are more of a priority for them than anything else despite the fact they're supposed to be a charity first and foremost.
I find it unbelievable that the people in charge of the National Trust haven't yet sent an email out to ALL their sites warning them of a guy going around these sites purposely flying a drone and 'quizzing' / testing the Trust's employees. Also why they haven't used an email to advise their employees about the actual law. These videos are making the National Trust look very silly and out of touch. If i was the National Trust i'd also employ someone as a drone pilot to fly over their sites capturing official drone footage, they would be taking the initiative, whilst also showing off their beautiful sites. Free, positive promotion of the Trust and their sites. This here, in these videos is negative promotion for the National Trust. Keep up the good work DJE.

I flew at alton towers with a dji phantom 3 about 9 years ago before there was any rules , policies, legislation, CAA blah blah , no licence, operator id insurance required .
