Grannom (Brachycentrus subnubilis), a member of the Caddis family (Trichoptera order), are among the first of the UK's major hatches in Spring. Hatches can be huge, to the point where every Grannom seemingly tries to crawl up your waders, under your glasses, down your neck, or smack into you as they are blown up or downstream by the usually unstable Spring weather.
Trout can go crazy during these hatches; however, it never appears to be the adult Grannom they are interested in. Instead, trout will usually gravitate to the Grannom pupa and emergers (and even their empty shucks), of which (should you be lucky enough to experience these hatches on your rivers) will be drifting downstream in their millions.

The pattern featured in the video utilises the below materials.
- Hook: Partridge of Redditch Grub/Shrimp Down-Eye (K4A), size 14
- Thread: Semperfli Nano Silk, 18/0 (30D), black
- Body: Semperfli Sparkle Dubbing, Light Olive
- Rib: Semperfli Classic Waxed Thread, 12/0, black (folded-over twice = 4 strands)
- Thorax: Semperfli Sparkle Dubbing, a pinch mix of Light Olive, Black and Orange (with a few black fibres picked out to imitate legs)
- Thorax Cover: Semperfli Swiss Straw/Synthetic Raffia, black
- Wing: CdC, 4x, natural
