Been right in front of him at 2 TFS gigs this year and I've never noticed how beat up that guitar is. To be fair he doesn't stay still enough for one to inspect it. Cheers for this. Also in May he waged war on that pedal board it was awesome and then dragged a full beer bottle across his guitar strings spraying beer everywhere. Just remembered I have one of his picks on my bookshelf from last Monday from that ending actually.
I’ve been right in front of him watching him beat that thing to pieces for the last 15 years. That guitar goes right back to wait long by the river. It’s an icon.
I was actually at the concert they filmed this before! At one point he was just slamming the strings and remixing the sound using the pedals in an extended instrumental jam during I think antimatter animals? It was fucking mind-blowing
I love that he has his same modded jag from when he was a teen that has ended up with the guts of a les paul, I love those multi bank effects boards, I love how he knows that pedals that have microchips in them aren't analogue, I love that he pretty much has a noise music board with a constant signal source which he feeds through an arpeggiator and a multi effects synth thing for when conventional guitar playing is too boring.. and I love that he uses his own sm58. Fuckin cool
Actually he was wrong about the analog part. Sure, the RAT has an IC in it, but it's an op-amp. Op-amps are analog parts even though they're in an IC package. Just because it looks like a chip doesn't mean it's digital. I'm a fan of Gareth's music, but he's wrong on this one.
@@mochnesslonster44 Most pedals are analog. Pick any overdrive/distortion/boost pedal and 99.9% of the time it will be analog. The only pedals that are digital are multieffects, delays, and reverbs. It's not a moot point since digital pedals can vary a lot in sound quality. You can't compare a $2000 Line 6 Helix to a $80 digital pedal... the latter would sound like crap in comparison. Also digital amp modelers are becoming more popular too but they're really just a multieffects pedal that had all the amps removed except for one.
Gareth can play a mean guitar and he knows how to let loose. i like how he was playing barefoot also I think his guitar is just getting cooler with more awesome stories behind each battle scar.
I LOVE this guys style. Trippy and DIRTY!!!!! Awesome sounds! I do not believe I have ever seen anyone coax sounds out of a pedal board that way. I wondered how he got some of the sounds he did on their remake of 1983 A Merman I Should Turn to Be and now I see!
that sounds like an admission to a crime. Souvenir you say? Got that vibrato arm? Was there a raffle? Sir, we will sit down at the station and discuss this tomorrow 8:30am
Thank you SO MUCH for posting this. I saw them for the first time recently after being obsessed for the last year or two and they absolutely tore the place to the ground. One of the best shows I've been to honestly. I've been trying to figure out some of his sounds with my pedals and modeler ever since and this helps tremendously.
I’m a fan of Gaz. All the Drones and Trops music is great. But I wanna hear from the rest of the band too. Especially Fiona. Are there any interviews with em? Post links if ya got em.
The ICs in those pedals arent microchips in the sense hes saying. ICs are components, microchips are enclosed circuits. Still my favorite guitar player currently. hehe
What's that little bit of paper wedged in the nut of his guitar? Looks like it's just under the D string. Maybe it's an intentional mute or maybe it got stuck there by accident... no judgment either way lol just curious.
I always wondering the name of the company of that weird pedal of the 8:00, i can't stand too much cuz i'm from Chile uwu someboody can write me the name :(
Uh...I love TFS...but this dude should join my band. My bassist and keyboardists have crazy ass effect setups like this. I just sing and use nothing but my American Fat Strat and Marshal amp. Half stack with celection speakers. I gotta focus on 2 things at once as I am screaming my guts out. This guy should join me. I love TFS...but I believe if I jouned forces with this dude...we might actually become for real famous. Butterfist has been in the shadows for a while. I dread even saying the name as we have been canceled 3 times. But we are an underground legend.
His tone is not what I'd call great, it's sounds thin, but man there was some interesting shit happening when I saw them play. This is a cool video to see.
