Very good review, thanks. Better than the others I’ve seen. Nice to see the functionally you pulled up with real world examples. (Unit is on backorder now, or at least some sort of delay.) Do you think the bracket/cage mount that holds the unit in place similar to a phone case is needed? Friend using his said it popped off during a session. The bracket holder apparently has a tether as well.
I just used the suction cup mount the unit came with and attach to windshield. It is VERY strong, no way thats coming loose assuming your glass is clean. I would still order it this month so you can get that rebate. Sorry no experience with any other mounts.
Thanks for this, very helpful. Are you able to explain what is the database of information that Catalyst uses in order to make these opportunity determinations? For example, if you went out and ran one single lap, would it provide any opportunities? Does it wait for some critical number of laps before it can perform this diagnosis? Also, does it use all laps on that track or only from the session? In other words, does the system get smarter after many days and many sessions, always looking for the very best segments? thanks!
Glad you found the review helpful. I will be able to give more feedback once I use it a few more times. The database of information is only what you give it. So the more you use, the more it has to work off of at any given track. Single lap, no opportunities. I will know after next Monday whether is is able to use data collected from my previous day.
i used porsche track app and didn't help me much and cuts too much, so just to confirm this Garmin is great interms of improving my tracks laps correct?
I had a similar experience with the Track Precision app by Porsche. Good when it worked but it was reliable. Then I couldn't export the data off the unit. It was a little annoying. The Garmin Catalyst helps you optimize your own driving and helps you push to that next level. End of the day its a tool to help you get around the track quicker :)
