I got really excited when this dropped, thinking I could set dual press on my gravel bike AXS Rival levers to page turn on my garmin (the buttons on the 840 are squishy and really hard to press on bumpy gravel, and the touch screen doesn’t always work right with my gloves) - I have a 1x so it’s completely wasted on my gear shifting. I was pretty bummed this can’t be done. Likewise, I never use the long press on my AXS 1x mountain bike, so I thought I could keep short press to shifting, long press to jump through pages. No dice on that, either… Big missed opportunity for my bikes at least. Unless I did something wrong, but watching through this, I think I did it all right. Maybe this will come someday. I don’t want to add blips, I already have unused controls that should be able to do what I want.
Same setup here as well, hopefully there will be an update available soon, otherwise... Well, I've lived until now with mechanical groupsets, I guess it won't be a huge problem

Any update? I'm getting 1x Rival AXS groupset and was thinking about the same use case for "front derailleur" controls...
Same situation here :-/ the Rival shifters use Ant+ as well right? So you'd think you could assign a long press to aa page shift, I never use the multishift (in gears) function currently assigned to it
🙌 thanks Shane. I asked a recent question on this after watching your SRAM Blip vid. Just the info I needed..just got to work out where I can mount those things cleanly!
I was waiting for this upgrade for ages, but the fact that you have to choose for your BLIPS between SHIFT or CHANGING PAGE is a shame, I hope Sram will upgrade this very soon. I don't want to spend another 100€ on a pair of new Blips (not even sure where I could place them on my handlebar !) Thanks for the video anyway
o! I got an idea for a feature! On the climb, you must hold both buttons pressed all the time. You let it go, it means you passed out and need ambulance! :D :D
Greetings Shane. Fun video...and yes a Wahoo video would be great. I was practically gifted a Wahoo Elemnt Roam 2... I have been wavering on switching to the (now) discounted Edge 1040 so I can use the Garmin training ecosystem seemlessly. Wahoo just works...and seeing all the comments about orphaned 1030s, I am thinking the next gen Garmin flagship will incorporate features that won't trickle down to the 1040. First world issues: deciding which flagship head unit to use on costly bicycles for fitness metrics for a 67 year old enthusiast. 😂🚴♂️🤯🤣🤠
I have a 1030+, which was not that cheap at that time. The fact that Garmin does not support the buttons with these "old" units is the last drop. No more Edge for me. It's a waste of money after a way too short span.
The goodwill that they could have created among Garmin users looking to upgrade in the near future by updating older units is totally lost on them (or ignored by them), total morons.
It’s really ridiculous and annoying for Garmin to not support this feature, as it is a software update, on the 830 or 1030. These units aren’t cheap and perhaps Garmin should give consumers the ability to upgrade their devices even if it’s a small nominal fee. I’m done purchasing Garmin devices just to be able to take advantage of a new software feature. COME ON GARMIN! BTW. Great review as always! You’re one of the best! Keep up the good work
I feel you. Just wanna say that after "not-so-good-either" experience with Wahoo my new rule of thum: no expensive/top line bike computers again. It's just not worth the money and nerves :D Cheers!
I bought a 530 mtb bundle a few years ago. Came with a remote. I now strapped it onto road bike bars and use this. I can mark laps etc but I just use it to scroll through pages. I have force axs without buttons but use this instead. Easy peasy for less money and faff
Plus disabling that Virtual Partner completeley (NO icon and NO message at the end of a ride), and sending a route to the unit after you started a ride. These things feels so like 1990.
Just upgraded both my cyclocross and mountain bike to AXS. I thought it was a bit of a shame I can't assign ANT+ control to combo action of the shift lever and dropper post lever (that could make at least for two function controls even if only short press was allowed), but then I found out my still working well Edge 530 is not compatible anyway…
Do you know if the previously released etap multiclics are compatible with the new RED groupset? Can't imagine they wouldn't be, but the naming on SRAM products makes it confusing and there's no information.
GPLama, great video. Can you configure the blips on a Sram force groups to change gears [single click up single click down] and then use the double click to change Garmin bag? When I get it to work like this it seams to always disconnect one of my break hood gear changes,
@@gplama That was it! Thank you! As soon as I re-added it, it popped up on the screen as an option on the Garmin without even going into the sensor menu.
Does the AXS ANT+ update & using wireless blips include the MTB mechs too? I've got a 1x Rival 11 speed mechanical setup on my bike currently & going 12 speed MTB cassette & mech would give me a useful extra low gear without losing the highest gear (I sometimes swap to a smaller chainring for some rides). Going 2x could also be an option but I've got used to 1x.
Please garmin, give me music control from the extra buttons. and had this been a standard implementation when eTap first came out i may have actually stuck with it.
Can you convince Wahoo to add a "back screen" function at all Shane? Scrolling through data screens in a loop is a terrible user experience and reduces the value of bilps / hidden buttons
I’m confused…with wireless blips, is it shift function and Garmin control or only one or the other? With the buttons being short press only really limits my usability for my 1x setup.
@@chriskennedy1076 I would guess that the blip hardware is not capable of sending a long press signal. In other words, you press the switch and it sends a signal. It doesn't matter if you keep holding the button to try and do a long press - the signal (blip) has already been sent. You have to release the switch before it will send another (short) signal. That's my guess anyway. I bet they do it to save battery life.
Any news on redesigned blips? I love the functionality of these but they're an awful shape and almost impossible to tape around and then you've flat top aero bars? Surely there must be an improvement on the way?
Awesome stuff! From what I can gather online, those helpful “Chainring shift next” notifications I get with Di2 in synchro shift mode on my Garmin don’t work on SRAM. Is that still the case with this updated firmware and the E1 release? I really dig that feature.
@@gplama Thanks for confirming. I’d love to see them add this. I wonder if it’s part of the standard ANT+ spec for gearing or if it’s part of Shimano’s private implementation and we’ll just never see it.
What about the important stuff like next song, pause song? :) Anyone know of an inexpensive micro switch on a barrel plug that can fit into the ports on old and inferior levers so I can put buttons under the hood covers? The SRAM solution is bulky and costly vs low tech always off micro switches
@@gplama Apple supports 7 generations of device with iOS17, I don't think it is unreasonable to expect Garmin to support at least two. The goodwill created would more than pay for itself in return customers.
I almost want to switch back to Garmin. Wahoo doesn't seem to do enough with updates or new features. A new solar unit would be great too. One can only wish 😞
