The Garmin Fenix 7 Pro and Epix Pro sit at the top of Garmin’s range of sports watches (with an honourable nod to the Garmin Enduro 2, which is basically a Fenix 7 Plus). The Fenix 7 Pro offers more battery life, while the Epix Pro has a brighter AMOLED display. Which should you pick? Mike, Jane and Nick discuss the pros and cons of each in this vid.

In my opinion, one of the best put together review formats and reviews of these watches. You touched on the features yourself and incorporated opinions of others. To which point, they did great as well. Thank you all for this information.

Grear video! One rhing to remember with the fenix is that theyve improved the screen so its brighter than previous mip screens too

I had a Fenix 7 Pro next to my Fenix 6S Pro. Yeah, the screen might be brighter, but you have a touch and a solar layer on top of it. I find the glass of the 7 Pro way more reflective than the 6S Pro glass. And therefore, in most glance kind of situations I struggled to see the Fenix 7 Pro screen as clearly. On top of that the solar panel ring is reflecting as well and it takes away screen real estate. So as an example, the heart rate zone bars are barely visible on the Fenix 7 Pro in comparison with the 6S Pro as you can see at 08:53.

Thanks for this video guys, great content and finally I’ve decided I’ve made my mind up I’m going for the Epix pro Gen2 51mm sapphire the only problem I have to look out for is my wife finding my bank statement lol but finally my mind is made up

I just bought a fenix 7 pro for £600. Amazon daily deal. An amoled screen is not worth £350. I dont think many would argue the value difference there

Quicker battery drain won't it lead to increase the number of battery charging cycles? therefore reducing battery health over the time... I wonder what the battery health would be after a year in a Fenix compared to an Epix....

I’ve had lower end garmin watches for 10 years, batteries have never been a problem. Usually the straps or the hr glass.

I think a lot of us got tempted by the purported increased optical HR accuracy on the Apple Watch Ultra and the iOS integration for Apple users. I certainly did, went from my Garmin Fenix 6x Sapphire to a Apple Watch Ultra. I'm starting to lean back more towards Garmin now and I think a lot of people are I'd love to see you guys do a comparison between the Garmin Fenix/Epix pro and the Apple Watch Ultra. Does anyone else think that'd be useful?

To me the AW is a smart watch and Garmin makes a sports/activity tracker. AW never created digestible ways to take in the metrics as well as Garmin. To me it never changed from the question of do you want an extension of your phone, or the best tracking of your fitness and overall health stats. Plus honestly 2 days on AW was not enough of a battery change to change my mind or most people used to a week or more.

I have an Apple Watch 5 and it needs Dailey charging, sometimes twice Daily. Im finding that other than the gps function on the watch (turn by turn directions - useful as I travel for work and walk big cities) I only really use it as a dress watch. Looks like the epix can be dressed up w leather bands et al. Anyway, Epix is on sale right now (Father’s Day 2024) so I think I’m going for it.

@@waynejohnstone3685 Go for it, after this I sold my AWU and luckily got a good price for it before the AWU came out. I managed to get an Epix pro on a great deal without losing a penny. My initial gut reaction was right, loving the Garmin now and I hand on heart honest would never go back to Apple.

I guess it’s much harder choice for 42mm. For 47-51mm Epix seems to be a better choice but for 42mm? Batterywise I would go for Fenix in 42mm size.

At 8:08 you see AMOLED is unreadable after the timeout unlike the MIP on the right. To me biggest downside with AMOLED that is always requires interaction to brighten it up again (for couple of seconds until it timeouts again). And in watch mode it can only show

i have epix 2 and tactix 7 pro, Amoled is more usable and way better looking in 99 percent of the time. Fenix kinda loses point with big epix watch and pretty decent battery. The only thing that is better with MIP is literally battery and always on mode looks nice imo because it resembles normal watch. But its not even comparable epix amoled screen is miles better looking and more readable in any circumstance other than direct sunlight. Its not that big difference either. You can pretty easly read amoled screen still under sunlight. I would never bought tactix 7 pro because of MIP screen. I bought it only because of the looks of the watch and i like having odd stuff like MIP screen. You can take either of them and wont go wrong, but just comparing visibility, looks and viability of the screen. Amoled just destroys. Point of the mip is just longer battery and always on mode
@luc7976
@luc7976 10 месяцев назад
@@Stockfish1511 using both I'd agree if you use gesture control to brighten up the screen on amoled. I'm usually in brighter conditions and the 955 I can read easily outdoors while epix2 requires constant interaction. Also indoors with light background I find readability just fine. For navigation though amoled is far superior but display remains bit small for rerouting. So both have some downsides. I hope Garmin can improve both display technologies.

@@luc7976 Yeah sure they will do. I mean when epix 2 came out. I bought it. Loved it but everyone had same complaints. No 51 mm variant, no flashlight and couple of other issues and they fixed itright away with epix pro. Im sure garmin takes their consumer seriously and reacts to what the consumer says. But those are still top end watches and you wont go wrong either way. I mean i love epix, but would i go wrong if i only had tactix 7 pro? No its still a beast of a watch and imo garmins best looking watch and performing watch. I think when it comes to garmins top models (epix, fenix, tactix) You cant go wrong no matter which one you buy. But i think fenix might lose a point a bit because new Epix pro comes in same big size, got flashlight and huge battery life for amoled.

I only use my AW as a dress watch and while navigating big cities while walking. Would the epix connect to a map to offer the same? I’m finding I wear my Garmin (forerunner 735) most times especially activity tracking, done with the AW daily charging toy. But love the AW screen. I think Epix is a good blend. Plus I play hockey, atv, motocross and snowmobile, functions the Epix has. LOL it’s always a joke how garmin and apple think I’ve walked 16000 steps and burned 5000 calories on my snowmobile.

Coming from the fenix going to the epix I remembered why I didn’t care for the Apple Watch aside from the lack of training data. The constant glow of the amoled is quite annoying and I think the MIP looks better in sunlight

I really struggle to imagine the accuracy has improved with the OHR? With each iteration of the Fenix range they've promised it's improved, really? My Fenix 6X Pro is horrendous! Just occasionally it would be nice to train without the strap, but I simply can't! So hand on heart, can you honestly say the HR accuracy has improved?

Personal preference but yes I didn't like that outdoors in brighter conditions. Plus every screen except maps is constantly in dark mode (white text on black background). I think both display tech can be improved (improve contrast/colors/reflectivity on MIP, allow white background on AMOLED until it timeouts, reduce glare in darker conditions with AOD,. ...).

AMOLED watches like these....haven't bought one for the simple fact htat I'm afraid the screens will washout in bright sunlight...as odes my Samsung phone if I don't remember to pump up the brightness before going outside....which i never do . :) So as for watches....for day...i'd stick with analogue. these ffigital watches IMHO are really only for the night.....indoors or outside...

I don't have Epix but I have compared my Fenix 6 with Apple Watch Ultra. Even in a sunny day, in almost 90% percent of time, OLED is more visible than MIP. I mean even in a sunny day, most of the time, the screen is shaded by your own shadow or some trees etc which makes the MIP less visible than OLED. I know that Epix is not as bright as AWU and Fenix 7 Pro has improved MIP over Fenix 6 but still think in most realistic situations OLED is more visible. For me reading the maps are the most critical and maps are really awfull on MIP screen (low contrast + limited colours)
