Thanks for posting mate. I do know what LT is but I want to see how it works with the Fenix 3 I use to do a few of 30 minutes assesment trainings at specific points of my training season to check my fitness level and set up or change my training plans. If the Fenix 3 can do that for me or at least in an easier way it would be awesome Thus, thanks for the instructional !
FWIW to those of you that are really into physiological measurements, I heavily doubt Garmin's lactic acid threshold measurements are that accurate. Clinically and in exercise labs, the test is usually done as a blood test and there's just no way an algorithm can come close to a lactic acid test in terms of accuracy. It would be interesting to see if Garmin ever publishes a standard estimated error for things like this and VO2 max. That being said, for the recreationalist, it's not that big of a deal and it's certainly better than NOT having an estimate. But if you really wanted SOLID data, the best thing to do is to go to a lab to have the test done. (Dr. Kravitz is the shit btw, great source.)
Hey Doug thanks for posting this. Was the HR data coming from the optical sensors on the Fenix 3 itself or from a chest strap? I'm thinking about waiting for the 5 to come out in March, however I'd consider buying a non-HR 3 now and save half the cost of a new watch if the built in optical HR sensor on the watch is more of a gimmick and I'll need to wear a chest strap anyway. Thoughts or recommendations? Thanks again.
The HR was coming from an old Garmin chest strap. I wear a chest strap on every work out. I found my Fenix 3 HR for 349 on black Friday from amazon. I would wait till the Fenix 3 HR hits 349 somewhere and jump on it. The 5 is just too expensive for me.
Can I run the lactate threshold test on a treadmill with my chest strap and footpod or does it require you to run it outdoors? I've never used my fenix3 for an outdoor run in the 8 months I've had it, only indoors.
I don't know the answer to your question. I tried to start the lactate threshold test without my chest strap connected and it wouldn't allow me to start the test. Try setting up your footpod and chest strap and giving it a go. Turn GPS off in the settings beforehand. Can you let us know? I don't have access to a foot pod or treadmill to try it out for you.
I think there is something wrong with it then I have had the my heart rate in the red many times from 5k to half marathon. Looks like I will need to call Garmin. Thanks for the help.
I'm sorry to be the one to tell you this; but you did not put enough effort into this test! If you are able to talk to the camera during a lactate threshold test, the test result is void. Repeat without the camera💫 Thanks anyway, for trying to show how the watch guides you through the test👍 Cheers
