Garmin Fenix 5+ is a successor of Fenix 5. It's got a better CPU, more memory, and different location of the antenna.
The body and many of the internal components stay the same. However, there are some significant differences if you look through the photos.
Despite the same size, the battery life on 5+ got substantially worse, probably as a result of a faster CPU.

I ran across your video while looking for information to replace my Fenix 5 plus backplate due to the corrosion of the charging port. I haven’t ordered a backplate yet, but is Fenix 5 and 5plus backplate module (the whole battery & heartbeat sensor module) interchangeable? I would prefer the Fenix 5 backplate that does not have corrosion issues if they are interchangeable. Thanks!

I wish I knew exactly. Based on solely visual comparison I see no functional differences. If I still had these watches I could try to swap the parts, but I don't have 'em anymore. Sorry and good luck figuring it out👌

Just wanna share my story with my fellow DIY enthusiasts - I originally purchased a Fenix 5X back in the day (full price around $600) and it only lasted me about 2 years - it wouldn't turn on. I was pretty dissapointed when I found out Garmin doesn't service their watches. I searched online, tried cleaning the pins - it didn't work. I then bought a battery on Ebay and after following a couple of videos on how to replace it sadly it didn't work. Few days ago I came across a post on Ebay for a Fenix 5X plus for about $120 cause the screen was pretty banged up. Since I'm no longer interested in paying full price for a watch that the manufacturer doesn't service, I jumped on that and bought it. Given everything I've been through with this watch I decided to try one final experiment. I tried the screen from my original Fenix 5X on the banged up Fenix 5X plus I bought on Ebay and to my surprise it worked! Since my original 5X wasn't banged up at all I now have a pretty decent looking 5X plus (for 120 bucks). Not too shabby! There is one difference on the 2 screens - an extra small connector that goes to the display of the 5X plus - I'm assuming it's an antenna still haven't figured exactly what I might be missing due to the screen change (everything seems to work so far). But hey I'll get to squeeze a little something out of this whole ecosystem I was already invested in (if anything I can revert back to the banged up screen I bought it with if needed). It's also good to know I have some replacement parts if needed. This video definitely helped me out with this whole ordeal, so Thx.

hey, thanks for sharing your DIY story! It's hard to believe, but even Coros Apex entirely sealed and glued together watch could be DIY serviced while not leaving a single mark of intrusion hehe. Wrt an extra small connector, you see on 5X Plus display, it could even be NFC, but this is just a blind assumption...

Nice video, I need help, I need to change the battery on my fenix 5 plus. New battery ready ... but I have not found a guide for the 5 plus, all for fenix 5 x but inside they are different. The 5 plus the battery is behind .. could you please make a video on how to change the battery or give me some directions or where to find them please? thank you

I think it's very straightforward to replace the battery on Fenix 5 Plus - just unscrew the back cover, pull the old glued battery with a plastic card, and unplug it from the socket. Repeat in reverse to install the new one. Done. All you need is a T4 (or T5, I don't remember) screwdriver. Good luck with it 👌

@@nehvey Hello! battery change done, everything went well even for me who have never opened a watch. unfortunately, however, not much has changed the battery continues to drop rapidly, 40% in one day. It all started in August after pressing the keys in the water ... water or humidity must have entered .. any advice on what can be that causes the battery to drop so quickly even after changing it?

@@dadamanu well done 👍 If the problem is indeed caused by water, then it could be anything on the motherboard, which is causing now the battery drain. It becomes difficult to advice anything remotely at this point, sorry. Usually technicians use ultrasonic cleaners to remove any potential short-circuits caused by water. Best regards.

@@nehvey Hello, did you have any trouble unscrewing the back. Some have said these screws are fixed with lock tight and may not be undone without damage?

Hi! My Fenix 5x+ titanium's charging contact pins are all corroded very bad, and its very hard to charge now. And unfortunately the warranty periode is already passed. I already contacted garmin support but they are charging like 200 usd for the fix. Any idea that I could use to fix it my self? Thanks.

I would simply replace a back cover as a whole. It should be easy to find a used one in a good condition for cheap.

@Mateusz M4ttx in my case, definitely yes, as I did care and even applied fresh silicone on the sealers, although it was not required to be honest👌
