I have the Tri HRM. This is probably at least my 6-7 HR strap from Garmin over the years. I am lucky if one last more than 2 years. Water leaked into mine but it was not cracked on the outside. I cleaned the corrosion out with isopropyl alcohol. I have been frustrated with the Garmin 945 downloading HR data after swim. Thank you for your video!
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU --- I have been having a connection issue, and I just found that my strap has that same hairline crack and - I can see the internal corrosion --- a light brown / yellow pattern. This will be going back to Garmin.
You are spot on when it comes to the Garmin gear, a 7 week review doesn't cut it. Telling me where the parts came from and what the features are is not a product review. There's actually a lot of basic flaws that I've never heard or seen reported online.
I have purchased numerous chest based HRM's from Garmin. They all have done this thing where once the first battery dies it is not long for this world. I have had a Garmin HRM for at least 8 years and have owned like 6 of them. They have a crummy product IMO and look at this device as an after the sale purchase-repurchase.
What's the answer then.... I did buy a cheap one a while back but lost it moving, if they're going to crap out all the time, might as well be a cheap one. That said never had issues with polar
Mine is 6 months old and has stopped working as well. However I don't even have a hairline crack. I had to replace the battery about three months ago (so the unit was only 3 months old at the time!) I've contacted Garmin and am getting a replacement, I tried every fix, but to no avail.
@@anironmanjourney The battery is fine, has plenty of charge (just under 3v) the o-ring also seems ok, I don't swim with it, sometimes shower with it so that would be the only time it could get water in it but considering it's not submerged wouldn't think it would be an issue. I'm very experienced with o-rings and sealing units so don't think that water would have gotten into the unit, but to be honest there doesn't seem to be any other reason why this would have stopped working. What is interesting is that when I was on the phone to Garmin (they were actually very helpful and very professional) they emailed me these instructions which I didn't see online: Thank you for contacting Garmin Australasia, Please complete the following troubleshoots: 1. Reverse Polarity 1. Remove Battery bay cover 2. Remove battery from bay 3. Flip battery the incorrect way (reverse polarity) and place back into the bay 4. Hold battery in place with finger for 15secs 5. Remove battery for 10 seconds and place back in the correct way 6. Replace battery bay cover
@@the80s365 interesting, they were trying to reset the electric circuit inside I guess, if you put the battery upside down, you are basically using the positive surface of the 2032 battery to short the unit (positive and negative terminals of the Garmin hrm will be connected)...and even that didn't work. So, it's got to be an external factor (other than the electric circuitboard).
An Ironman Journey Ok so wanted to come back on here and update everyone even at the expense of looking like an idiot. Contacted Garmin and they have sent me a new on at no cost which was amazing. Tried to connect the band new unit and low and behold, it didn’t work. That’s when the penny dropped: restart you watch. For some reason with all other technology it’s one of the first things I do when there are problems. But with the watch never thought of it, mainly because I still treat it like a watch, not a computer. Long story longer, it was the watch and now I have two perfect HRM-Tri HRM’s... Moral of the story; restart your phone as the first thing you try!!! PS: what’s curious about all this is that even when on the phone to Garmin, they didn’t ask me to restart watch.
@@the80s365 thank you for taking the time to come back and update...Garmin's support never asked me to restart the watch/communicating unit .... I'm glad you had it resolved... happy training!!
I am here - looking this video, so yeah, my HRM Tri doesnt work. But I have had this one strap during last 2,5 years. And I used it daily. So I have changed more than 4 times batteries and it still worked great. Until now.
Bro, same crack. My HRM-Rum had some water condensation inside. I don’t know if the seal is the main failure. I’ll try to use electrical cleaner and pray to wake up. Due to taxes in Brazil it costs now around USD250.00. That’s disgusting.
Update: After cleaning, it didn’t woke up. Anger take me.... 10 seconds after, decided try another battery. Bingo! Probably the water/sweat drained charge overnight. Thanks for your video!
So probably my 10th Garmin HRM (this one is the Pro), this one I decided not to wash as washing has trashed them before (following Garmin's instructions). After a year, it was pretty gross so I rinsed it, surprise, surprise, stopped working. I changed the battery, was shocked to see it working again, lasted one run, gave a few battery warnings throughout the run. Now nothing, dead. Had siliconed it and now contact cleanered it. Nope dead - How the #### is this acceptable. HRM number ~10 dead after 1 year.
Its extremely poor and pathetic design by Garmin for their over priced sensors and products. I am using the Running HRM (Red one) and I have the same problem. I ended up using a hair dryer, now the little shit is working as expected.
I have bought a brand new garmin HR tri & itcame with no battery. I was expecting it to be working once the battery is installed but results unchanged. What to do now , can any1 help ?
HRM PRO - HR showed today HR 200, when i seat and rest... Same hairline crack, strap is 2 months after warranty expired :( I'm tring to rinse in isopropanol and glue it. EDIT: 3x flushed with isopropyl alcohol, then crack in plastic glued with super glue. It's working again!!
Hi how long do batteries normally last ? mine seems to get through them every couple of weeks which seems a lot , I do turn off the heart rate function on the watch after going for my run , thanks .
The batteries last about 6-7 months with almost daily use (averaging a little over an 1h of use per day). After washing them, leave them to dry, with the hrm sensors (the two black sensors) exposed (not touching anything), they automatically turn off after about 10 minutes of no use. To test that, try to connect your watch to the sensors. The watch should not be able to find the HRM until the sensors are in contact with your body
My HRM-Run (red) started to drop connection. I thought it was the battery, but when I replaced it, I noticed a crack EXACTLY like yours. Some humidity has developed inside, even some corrosion on the battery. Baaaad sign! Really bad sign. I tested the battery and it was still so-so. Of course replacing it didn't solve the connections dropping. So although the unit works, it has a random pattern of connect/disconnect every few seconds. It's frustrating. I guess I won't bother with the crack, since I won't be able to recover it. I had one friend a few months that had exactly the same problem, with a crack in the same spot. In my case I think this unit has more than 2 or 3 years now. I changed the battery 10 times or so. Only now it has developed the MF crack! Not bad. Do you recommend any action? This connect/disconnect behavior is strange. I would prefer to revive a dad unit. I guess this could be more difficult to solve, but surely is corrosion related.
No it's not. The screws have metal inserts inside the plastic as you can clearly see, overtightening does not crack the lower casing, it would only crack the upper casing.
Hi it worked for a while but then after a few sweaty workouts it failed again ... I would have used a stronger sealant if I was to attempt the repair again
I love how they provide wrist heart rate sensors in the watch that are completely inaccurate but sold as accurate. There's a lot I like about Garmin but this is not one of them!!!

DO NOT BUY this hrm!!! Mine cracks 15 days after warranty ends. A tiny little crack near a bolt, that leave water/sweat in... its a common issue (google search) and Garmin dont assume its responsability. Its a big project/manufacture mistake.
