I like your advice to activate the navigation function on the inReach Device itself (rather than on the paired phone) when first ‘in the field’. This would seem to support the concept of always keeping the device capable of ‘stand-alone’ use for navigation back to the starting point, in the event of any difficulties that the user may encounter.
I can't really find info about this but if I have a phone and use for example osmand for navigating gpx tracks and I have the mini 2 on my chest. Can the mini 2 connect to my phone so my phone can use the mini 2's gps signal/antenna to navigate more precise on my phone?
I don't have any experience with osmand, but I do know that the Mini 2 will sync with your smartphone using the Explore App and the Messenger App. I have tested downloading gpx files to my 67i and I get the same accuracy if I view my course on the device itself or on my phone using the Explore App. If you have additional questions, you may want to talk directly to a Garmin Tech. Have you tried that yet? Rick
Something I’m confused about.. it says “Tracking points refer to the individual "breadcrumbs" sent by the inReach at user-selected intervals ranging from 10 minutes to 4 hours” On the safety plan it says $ .10 for each point. Is that only if I’m sharing those tracking points with someone? Or does it charge you to leave the track points just for personal use?
The Mini 2 will lay down hidden tracks, even if you don't start tracking or navigate. The hidden tracks are put down around every 10 minutes and it will help you find your way back to your starting points. There are bread crumbs that are laid down whether you track or not, which is different than if you start tracking. Tracking is primarily to share your location with family and friends. If you start tracking, then you will be charged for everything over what is covered in the subscription plan you choose. One thing you can do to save money is to stay with the SAFETY PLAN until you go on a long adventure, then switch the plan to RECREATION, or EXPEDITION, then switch it back when you adventure is over. I know this should be simple but it does seem to get confusing at times. Let me know if you have any other questions. Rick
@@outdooremergencytech awesome thankyou! You should have some sort of donation option you’re a huge help. I’m not very tech savvy.. so big thanks. Another one for you, do you have videos on planning your route etc? I don’t know the terminology but I have a trail I’m attempting ( Mt. Whitney ) going solo and will be doing some other trails before hand. I’m sure it’s difficult to answer these questions via RU-vid but how do you plan a route on the inreach mini? If you have a video would you be able to link it? Or if you know where I could get some good info on this if it’s even possible.
Thanks for the thumbs up and compliments. I do have a link near the top of each video about supporting HEB. It's here if you care to know. ✅ Please Consider Supporting Hiking Emergency Beacon www.paypal.com/paypalme/outdooremergencies This is not something I talk much about. I figure that people will help if they want and if not, I'll be fine. As far as navigating with the Mini 2, I have a Mini 2 training playlist that covers this here. ru-vid.com/group/PLinHuRHy8OYf_Zf1JVEPHScncOAcJTlb9. Plus I have several videos on creating routes and courses. I recommend using the Explore App to create your course. It's really simple. Here are the links to those videos. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-1hZrWMRd9aA.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ObW2XnLk30A.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-oYsgFXEDD38.html The 2nd link is creating coursed on the GPSMAP 66i with the Explore App, but creating courses with the Mini 2 on the Explore App is exactly the same. I also have an older video about how to create routes on the computer with the Explore.Garmin page. You can see that video here. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-UlPvu8RPz5w.html Let me know if this helps at all, and I may do another more in depth training on creating courses with the Mini 2 in the near future. Rick
That's one of the first rules I learned when building a website and RU-vid channel. Make sure to respond to all of your comments within 24 hours and preferably less. Rick
