Garmin inReach Mini 2 Unboxing & Overview 

I wish my buddy would’ve had one of these, he might still be alive. He lost his life in a motorcycle accident August 23rd 2020 on bike trip across Washington. The accident happened in dead spot, by the time help arrived he had already passed. We used to do a bunch camping up on mount baker, but now that he’s gone I haven’t been camping since. Watching your videos just takes me back to good times and fun it used to be, he an awesome set up that you would probably dig, but thank you for making videos and giving me something to look forward to.

This would be amazing for dementia patients who wander from home. So many wander away and aren't found. Thanks for showing us this.

Thanks Bud, I do a bit of truck camping, backpacking, and such. My daughter would appreciate this more than I will but I'm getting up there a bit. I've seen this type of thing with many folks hiking but. didn't know the cost.

Good idea, should get you a blue driver obd diagnostic scanner also. You can checkout the conditions of a vehicle before heading off into the wilderness. Saves alot of money on repairs.

I have a SpotX.. Bought it for safety oilfield had cpl falls from heat etc, kinda neat but slow and expensive to run.

i think the price you referenced is probably annual. i use a Spot GPS device when heading out with friend for annual backpacking trip in Rockies... it is a similar product and provides peace of mind when you are remote with no cell service. Nice review and keep up the good work.

I have the bar in reach explorer plus the big one and I’ve already used it to find my way out of a canyon after I got to deep in to get out on my own. Only negative is no trees within 109 feet around you to get a good signal. The app is nice to text from your cell phone.

You must have gotten to Cabelas early. I have never seen a Cabelas parking lot that empty.

Does anyone know what is the maximum distance between this inreach mini set to the basecamp where the tracking coordinate is sent to... Or it is limitless, as long as it is still on the globe...

I don't know if you watch Tony from AB Camping but he has one that he carries with him when he is out-Looks very similar to that one. He has not really talked about it a lot but a few times just to explain what it is. Pretty cool thing and smart to have and it didn't seem very expensive either.

Smart move. I use the Garmin Instinct watch for my wife to keep track. Holds a charge for about 3 weeks. Have you heard any feedback from campers in a 5.5 bed? The wife finally gave the green light!

Been carrying the Garmin mini for years. smart move. I keep it on the lowest monthly subscription year round. $12/month. Link it up with your phone and your good to go.

Dude, get yourself a Weboost snd install it on your truck, should get you cell service pretty much anywhere except for the most remote and desolate parts. I love mine, I have it outfitted to be portable for camping, I have the antenna mounted on a telescopic tripod and power it from a portable power station. Can’t live without the internet when camping 😂

Good Investment for sure! What's the farthest away from home you are willing to camp? Have you ever thought of collabs with others? Steve, Lonewolf and so on?

Is it a ham radio? Those are $50. You can get a technician level ham radio operator license. In an emergency even if you don't have a license you can communicate over the air when no cell use is available in an . No monthly cost to use your radio.

People spend thousands of dollars a year on homeowners insurance, auto insurance, health insurance, etc and hope nothing ever happens. Having something like the Garmin is even good during SHTF scenario where maybe the cell towers are down in your area.

I’ve had this device for a year. It’s good piece of mind if you are truly in an emergency. Battery life is fantastic. HOWEVER, if you actually need it to text through the phone app, it is god awfully slow to send and more so to receive a message. Painfully not useful if you actually need to communicate with it.

Good luck with it. As an outdoorsman my whole life, I have owned several Garmin handheld units and they were ALL JUNK! Don't waste your money on Garmin. The units in my trucks were much better than their handheld units.
