The moment I got Fenix 7 sapphire solar I turned off the touch screen. It's useful only for moving maps which I don't use. Got Instinct 2x on sale for less than 300 euros - noticed minimal differences between two in data collection and representation. Love both of them.
That's awesome feedback for people to hear. Thanks for posting this. I agree. I don't use maps all that often and this Instinct 2x is a great option for me. Thanks again. 👌
I am by no mean a runner but I am a firefighter and I just bought it for sleep tracking and heart rate monitoring for calls in the middle of the night. Seeing how my HB goes from ‘0-100’ in a blink of seconds
Yeah, I’m really trying to improve my sleep tracking. Let me know how you end up liking this one!!! Thank you for your work and thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
I used a wellness grant to purchase a few of these for the guys on our department, as well as the Blood pressure monitor and Scales. I plan to use the BP monitor and this Instinct 2x tactical to monitor sleep, heart rate, and BP for calls in the middle of the night as well. Im hoping the Garmin connect app will track it to keep track?
@@envisionbybvinson7516 yes you can track and back track your previous nights of sleep. What I noticed for me (only using the watch for tracking) is that: the night before work is a waste, 24h is a waste even when I was at a slow house and you sleep all night (where I’m at now we run 20-30 calls a shift so no sleep) and the night after is also not good. If you want to do a solid assessment I suggest you track nights off shift as well. You’d be surprised of the results and we get hammered more than just the nights AT work
With the price drop on the 2x, I have been watching reviews. Thanks for the informative video. On an unrelated note, that traffic circle looks terrifying. 😳
LOVE.. LOOOVE my Fenix 6X. It’s been bulletproof for years.. hiking, biking, skiing, running, everything. I only take it off to shower. WTS.. it’s heavy. I know the weight affects HR accuracy. I can afford the 7X but I don’t want/need music, touchscreen or maps..or even any notifications. I think I’m going Instinct 2X. I love the old school screen. In years of owning a Fenix I’ve ever thought.. WHEW.. glad this screen is in color.
Quite sure this is a big upgrade from my samsung galaxy watch gen one. Pulled the trigger last night, going to pick it up tomorrow. Super excited, Ill let ya guys know.
Yes, please let us know what you think of this 👌. I think it’s a very different watch. There’s probably things you’ll miss about the Samsung but things you love about the Garmin. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
Just got the 2x to replace my aged 245. The biggest improvement...clarity! It's monochrome. But it is so much easier to read. It's so bright when there is ambient light. At night the backlight is so bright! 50percent is good enough for me. And the gimmicky flash led...turns out to be my next most used feature. Very useful!
That’s good to know! I’ve been considering getting the 2X ever since it debuted, but I was skeptical. I currently own the Garmin Instinct 2 standard and man I tell yah, I can barely see what’s on the screen 85% of the time! The backlight is no help either unless you turn the watch upside down at the correct angle, then the screen contents are clearly visible. The standard Instinct 2 is definitely for someone with younger 20/20 vision and I bet they’d even have difficulty with the screen. I ’m getting older and my eyes are following suit! I still want a rugged Garmin watch but with a screen that I can see at a glance.
@@uwayzofoster4753 - I'm a big fan of the 2X with it's bigger screen and the addition of a flashlight 🔦 👌🏻 I'll be curious to see what Garmin does with the Instinct 3
So this review was published 1 year ago, are you still using this watch as your daily? How has the battery life held up, i've seen some people mention that only by turning off quite a lot of features does the battery last a decent amount of time, would you still recommend this watch after a year?
I tend to switch watches extremely frequently in order to review a large number of watches here on this channel. I really like the Instinct 2X but can't really speak to any long term battery issues. I'd say trust the people who have been talking about this stuff. Some place like Reddit might have some good feedback. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
I’ve watched your video in recommendations several times, and I’ve decided to subscribe now. Love your way of speech, shifts in video and your personal opinion
I have a few questions: 1. Does it get whatsapp, mail, … notifications if connected to an iPhone? 2. Does it show the heart zone when you’re training, with an always on display? 3. Is it visibile at nighttime?
1. It’ll show basic notifications. Whatever your phone sends over. 2. You can set up a heart rate graph page that shows the actual HR and zone. The display is an always on MIP display. 3. There is a backlight that when triggered makes it visible at night.
You're the first to mention the stormtroopers / clonetroopers. 🤷♂️ I felt they matched the white watch perfectly. But I do tend to put a lot of legos in videos. I think they're good for size comparison and just the fun of it. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
Looking to get this and replace my Apple Watch Series 7, getting for for the g shock look more than anything else, slowly getting into outdoors but more of a weightlifting guy
I think this will be a big adjustment coming from the AWS7. I'll be curious to hear what you think! Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
Today I compared the Garmin Fenix 7X Pro sapphire solar to the Garmin Instinct 2X Solar and... Yes, they are similar and yet quite diverse :) Nice review of the Instinct 2X 👍
Thanks! It is interesting trying to compare these very different devices isn't it. Similar in a lot of features but very different devices at very different price points.
Matt jumps from helicopter into lake. Its for a review I swear... Great review Matt. I love that red color. Reminds me of my 2nd band for fenix3 great price point. I have to admit
I totally agree with you about the touchscreen buttons. For tall people (like myself) pressing such buttons is sometimes difficult no matter how big the display is, let alone accidentally pressing buttons. It happens to me all the time and it's especially annoying when it happens during a workout. This watch definitely has the two things I look for the most: a durable battery and reliability during workouts
Just got an Instinct 2X Solar Tactical that's arriving tomorrow morning. No problem with size - I'm coming from a Casio GWG-1000 series Mudmaster. I've been wearing that watch 24/7/365 for about 8 years now with no thought at all about batteries. Looking for fitness features and GPS primarily. Don't really care about on watch mapping because I always have my phone with me. No touchscreen is OK because using a touch screen while moving is no Bueno. Good video. Spending time familiarizing with the watch before it arrives to 'hit the ground running'. Thx.
Such an in-depth review, man. Would it be ok if we swim with it in saltwater? Also, the boxing feature is so cool. However, boxing is a powerful activity with lots of impacts to the watch. I am just wondering if the watch can actually survive such activity.
I haven't tested this watch in saltwater but it should be fine. I would probably suggest rinsing it out after each salt water exposure just to avoid any rusting of metallic parts. But it should be good. 👍
Instinct = Fenix for the masses, hard to fault Garmin on this line of watches or this particular one. Thanks again for a great video, always first class quality (you must do video production for a living maybe..?). I still find Garmin software differentiation from model to model really annoying though TBH, makes it almost impossible to compare across the watches. Indeed, Garmin has a "Compare" facility which allows people to compare across up to 4 models (although it can only compare against generations ie new models v new models, older models against older models).
Yes, it gets super tricky to compare between models. Even with the 'Compare' feature on their site, it's hard to see some of the glaring difference that you'd notice after using them for a few weeks. My day job is software development. I'm just into the video production stuff as a side hobby. Thanks so much for the kind words Carlos. It means a lot. 👍
It is interesting to me that what makes the Instinct last so long is also what makes it unable to have mapping data. I think they could maybe get away with some basic road, trail and railway lines on a basic map without routing, but it would be very barebones and difficult to see. So between the Instinct and Fenix you have to choose what's more important, an extremely long lasting battery or mapping with climb pro and other things.
I think that’s a really good take on this. You’ve said it much more clearly than me in this video. It’s also a big price difference but the battery life on the Fenix watches is still pretty impressive for what it does. 👍
@@mlegrand Thank you, It was a debate I had with myself a year ago between the new Instinct 2 Solar and the older Fenix 6x Pro so it's a question I tossed around for some time. Ended up with the Fenix after a good sale. I really appreciate content like yours, as it's a debate I'm still having since I know my Fenix will need to be replaced eventually. With the additions of the 2x and the Crossover the Instinct line has gotten a lot more interestng and a lot more tempting.
Quick one mate, do Garmin have lots of subscription shit going on with these devices? I don't want to spent top drawer pricing for a device then have to spend a monthly subscription, as much as I want to get one and think it would be perfect for me.
No. Garmin seems to be avoiding that shit show of an income source. The only thing I can think of is one LTE watch that has a service plan associated with it. 🤔
I keep going back ans fourth. I have an outdoor job in mountain terrain. The 2xs at 450 has an amazing batter and more accurate gps but the 7x solar has way better maps but not as good gps or battery...
I think you might prefer those maps and cleaner display. I’d say it comes down to price sensitivity. The 2X is significantly more affordable. Tricky call. Let me know what you end up with and how you like it. 👌
@@Elephantmoonlight - I think the Pro is a minor update. I’ve tested them both and don’t think you would have noticed a huge difference in accuracy on gps or heart rate. Let me know what you think of it after you’ve had it for a bit. 👌
Recently switched from an Apple Watch SE too the Garmin 2X. Batterylife, rugged en the sort of retro looks made me switch. This review made me turn over to the Garmin side.
Turn to the dark side!!! Hope you enjoy this watch. It really is a fantastic option. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
Had this watch for a few weeks now, love it, its great, except now my step count isn't resetting at midnight. Only every other day does it reset. Anyone have a fix for this? Really frustrating.
Wow, that's a crazy bug. I do think a few other people have reported a similar issue. I'd start by checking if there are any firmware updates available. Otherwise it's a call to Garmin's good ole customer service. Best of luck and keep me posted on what you find out Chris. 🤞
I have a question regarding other bands. You almost swapped the band with another one, but the swap was not complete. With a standard 26mm band that doesn’t have that hole in the middle, will the light from the torch be visible or does the band block the output light?
Seems like the light could be slightly blocked depending on the strap used. The nice part about this strap is that it has a slight curve to it and it wraps your wrist well.
Yes, I'm considering upgrading to the 2x solar tactical, as a hunter I have been using the original (basic) Instinct for a few years and I love the durability and functionality of this GPS watch.
Yes! I do think you'd like the 2X Solar. It's a great device. See if you can find any sort of deals or sales. I think the discount code I have here is only 5-10% off.
I agree. It's a big watch. My wrist is smaller than this suggested size but I really like this watch any way. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
Was about to buy the epix but I don’t need maps or a touchable screen. I have a instinct 1 and this seems like a great upgrade, without dropping 1k. I have the AWU so I feel like the epix would not be needed. I plan on using this for the multi year bicycle tour Im planning on going on in a year or so. AWU battery life makes it a no go for adventure stuff.
@@mlegrand yea I’m in the process of getting used to filming with my GoPros, then gonna start posting my training rides, but onto another channel, since this one is super old and has abunch of video game cringe stuff!!! Thanks for the video though, definitely was the one that made me drop that 500.
excellent review congratulations, I'm just thinking of buying this 2x instead of my apple watch ultra because I don't feel so good, thanks for your review, greetings from Italy
I really like the Apple Watch Ultra also. They’re both great options but target very different use cases. The Instinct 2X has a very different display and Garmin watches focus much more on endurance sports where as the AWU is more of a smart watch device. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍

Purchased the Surf edition, specifically for the tide data, had it less than a week. The first time it got wet, water leaked through the button and fried it. Garmin sent this model as a replacement due to recall on surf edition model. This model (does not display tide on face) ,Tide is third party glance that has to be downloaded, and is buried in prompts to find it, and ERRORS every time GPS button is used to update tide. COMPLETE TRASH of a watch and not worth the money....... Save your time and money ... luckily i still have my G-SHOCK DW7900
Super sorry that this watch has been a bust for you Jesse. I've yet to test a G-Shock on this channel. I'd love to get my hands on one at some point soon. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
Waiting for mine to arrive. When I saw 40 days battery life, strength training support (using entry level forerunner 55 rn which doesn't support much) and the sexy design I just bought one. It fits my style completely. Functional and minimalist. Can't wait.
I don't try to cover every feature in my reviews but this watch is Garmin Pay compatible. Sadly, my bank is not. I've been unable to test it but that list is always updating so maybe some day soon.
I'm not sure it's exciting enough to mention more than once tbh. It's a must for me and was enough for me to change banks to a supported one but very few banks DO support it and there's no function for adding loyalty cards like Apple/Samsung/Google pay etc
FYI. Pox is 1-2% below actual, and sleep monitor has only 50% agreement with eeg. Breadcrumbs are limited to about 5km distance. Way point limited to 50. Still generally a good watch for limited nav and cardio data.
just ( 18Jan24 ) .. about to get my Instinct 2X. Enjoyed your review of the product, thoroughly informative. Gives me the confidence to get this unit, my first Garmin.. moving away from AppleWatch :-) ...... just a little note; i noticed the Suunto Vertical twit at 3'55" :-) ... should that be a consideration??
Awesome video! Question: have you tried to upload a course in the watch and use turn by turn directions? How long were you able to make the course and still use turn by turn navigation? I’m wondering because I’ve seen other reviews of this watch and other instinct watches where there’s a 50 point course limit for the watch. I’ve seen others say it’s not an issue if your course is mainly on roads and not trails where it becomes an issue. I would use it to navigate a course for the group runs I go on with others that can go as far as 17 miles.
I haven't tested that yet. I'll try to put some sort of long trail run together to see if I can run into the max point limit. 🤔 Thanks for posting that Michael!
Yes, and most watches will be able to be used with the HRM Pro Plus. Even non Garmin watches. I didn’t try every bike speed cadence sensor but it should also work.
This watch almost won me over. Well it did until the wrist gesture barley worked on a not so great monochrome display, nothing like Casio displays. 50mm case and Garmin eco system along with a light weight was a great mix. Unfortunately this is another Garmin watch that should've had an e-sim or LTE to really get most out of it for me. Maybe next version 🤞. Thanks again
I keep waiting for Garmin to start making LTE or e-sim a standard on their watches. They made the 945LTE and then nothing afterwards. . . 🤷♂️ I've got to think Garmin is feeling pressure from Apple. I'd expect them to go for it soon.
If there is esim, battery life is 2-4 days for sure. I want also an esim watch too. However, I will wait until one brand made an esim watch that lasts minimum 10 days. Until that time, it is a no go for me. I can't charge my watch every second day!
Hello After a couple of years and prices going up and down. What do u recom if someone has to buy a watch between ENDURO 1 BLACK Ti or INSTINCT 2X SOLAR TAC. What do u recom?
Those are both great options. I’d probably go with whichever watch looks best to you. Personally I love the built in LED flashlight on the Instinct 2X. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
What sort of cloud data tracking is involved with the 2x? (if any) A major reason I avoid any device that does health tracking is the data exposure concern when the telemetry is sent to the cloud and outside of my control.
Yeah, very good concern. Health data and GPS tracking is sent to Garmin’s Connect services. (cloud server system) So lots of data outside of our control. 😬
Thank you! I’ve been trying to decide between the Instinct 2 Solar Tactical or the 2X. I already have a foretrex for more navigational purposes but these watches seem great for fitness and activity
I would expect Garmin to release an Instinct 3 at some point. But these watches are amazing for fitness tracking. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
Planning to get this one too.. and i think its still worth it in 2024.. one question tho.. how is it when tracking calories, heart rate etc. For strength weightlifting sessions?
There are rumors of an Instinct 3. I have no idea when that might drop but this one has been solid for tracking calories and heart rate accuracy. I haven’t tested it for weightlifting. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
really nice reniew and explaination. I think of going for an Instict 2X Tactical thought because of the color they have and the green light. Simple screen and resolution is what we all need which are focused on the sports avtivities. What is missing is a memory to store music as this watch have a solar system that is capable to charge the battery, adding a music to this watch wouldnt be a big issue.
Maybe it's the lack of memory to store music? I'm not sure. But this is an excellent watch. I think you'll really enjoy it. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
What I don't like about Garmin watches, is that it doesn't recognize steps from swingin your arm...I drive forklifts for a living, as in in a seated position most of the time, yet my stepcount is around 14000/day, just from turning the wheel on the forklift 😅
Dang, that's frustrating. I'm guessing that's tricky to fix for manufactures. Do other brands do a better job? Either way, I'm guessing you get a lot of movement at your job. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
@@mlegrand All the different smart watches that I've owned, has had the same problem. Might be an issue, they can't figure out. Just frustrating to not get the right statistics, other than that, the watch is still awesome!🙂
Great video, yours was the review that finally made me bite the bullet [currently run a Fenix 6X Pro], just charging it now ready to setup later. Feels so much lighter, and can't wait to try the Training Readiness feature.
Very informative unbiased review brother. Hey but QUESTION? I noticed on the spec section on the Garmin website that the instinct 2x now has included a gyroscope as an additional sensor? Do you have any idea what it’s used for on the 2x? I came from using the instinct 2 solar which doesn’t have the gyroscope. Thx in advance.
Hey Matt !!! Just love your video man , great review ! Got a subscriber ! I was wondering about this watch , now I know I should buy it's awesome ! But I'll go for the tactical version. Big thanks and cheers from Japan 🙌🏻✨
I love it. Just bought my 2X Tactic version. Love that coyote color. Coming from G-Shock, it makes it look really cool. Like a great upgrade. Tracking your sleep isn’t as accurate as Fitbit. Looks like Garmin is going the Ambled way with Fenix 8.
I wonder if Garmin will move more and more towards AMOLED but keep this Instinct series in this battery friendly monochromatic color. Glad you’re enjoying this one!!! 👌
@@mlegrand I think they will. MIP is great for nighttime. Also outside. But I struggle to read notifications. It’s so bad. Could be my eyes too, but MIP isn’t always easy to read , especially on small font.
Hi Matt, I know Garmin watches use to have 2 different versions. One is APCA and the other one is ROW. The APCA version only contains English and some SE Asian languages, while the ROW version watches support multiple Germanic and Latin languages. For the newly released Instinct 2x, does it still have 2 versions? Or it has combined the SE Asian languages into it which sold in the US market? Thanks in advance.
That's a great question and I don't know. Garmin doesn't advertise that info but they might respond to that question or it could be in the Garmin forum pages. 🤷🏻♂️
I have no idea. That might be a good question for Garmin. They also have a forum where we might find answers to that one. I’d be interested to know if there is a limit or if it comes down to device storage space. 🤔
Hmm Good review seriously considering buying this pity it does not have mapping but I only need mapping for bike touring and I have a Garmin 1030+ Do i need an Instinct 2x probably not will I buy it for £400 I dunno I need a watch for hiking and mountaineering and backup. This baby looks pretty adept that's the question Geez.😮💨
It's a really nice watch. I would probably see what kind of deal you can find to help make the decision. There's been a few holiday sales lately. Currently looks like it's on sale in the US but not the UK: amzn.to/47evSGA
@@mlegrand I bought one for £399 took me a day or two to get to grips with it functionality and OS but getting there now. love the close up shots of the watch so that you can see the detail and pixeldensity. Besides that you need to explain something to your viewers. You say that the link to the cycling store is not an affiliate link. yet under the link in the description you post a discount code, so what happens if i use your discount code?
If you use the discount code you get a discount, that's pretty much it. I use affiliate links for anything going to Amazon, meaning I get a small kick back at no extra cost to you. In the case of the dialed cycling store, I do not get a kick back at all. They are just my local bike shop that I'm friends with and I also dropped off some stickers for them to add to any order that uses my discount code. Again, I just paid for the stickers to drop in. There's not an extra fee or anything. I just thought it would be nice. Be sure to double check prices everywhere because the Dialed group will charge shipping and Amazon may or may not. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
Iv had mine for almost a month. My buttons no longer clicks like they used to. I'll have to contact Garmin about it. Only the light and up button click now. The others are quite now and mushy. I still enjoy the watch. I shouldn't have gotten red. It's so hard to match clothes with that kind of red. It doesn't match any red I can find. It's almost orange/pink. In multigps I was getting 15+% battery drain a day not included flashlight use(which drastically drains battery more) I was lucky to get through the week. I had to turn off spo2, set gps to gps only, and rarely use the flashlight. Now I'm getting 2 weeks of battery. This is with tracking long bike rides, long swims, long walks, short runs, gym workouts, all daily. I'm getting the sun daily to give me 2+%charge(around 160k lux)every day. So the battery is not as great as expected. If I used it as a smart watch and only tracking 1or 2 short activities a day or so, then yes it would be better. Idk if I'm happy with it. I really like the instinct. So this is still great. Idk if I have a bad one or I'm just using it to rough. Hard to tell..
I actually thought the red looked the best on the website. This is really good feedback for people buying to consider. I'm bummed that the buttons have become a little flat. They've been fine for me so far but I'm a few weeks behind you. 😬 I do think it's a good option. It's very feature rich for the price. Hopefully Garmin can fix some of the issues via software updates. Keep me posted on what you're thinking Jay. I imagine you could still get a great price for it if you were to sell it used. 🤷♂️
@@mlegrand I'll see what Garmin says about the buttons. The red looks more red in pictures. In real life its more orange/pink. I can't find anything that has it's matching red. No clothes. So you have a watch that doesn't fit with any outfits. Then putting different watch bands on the red/black face doesn't go well also. Black band kinda works. I'd recommend the black version for anyone else buying the instinct 2x.
@@maxpower2631 hard pass. I returned 2 different Garmin instinct 2xs..one button problems second, update problems. I dished out the 50 bucks more for the 955 and have been loving it so far. The instinct 2x has major lag too with the operating system.
It’s big but I’ve grown accustomed to it. Obviously I can’t guarantee you’d be ok with it but I think after two weeks you won’t notice the bulkiness any more. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
For lap swimming? Yes, it'll count laps and calculate the total distance based on the pool length setting that you set up. It has a ton of other swim features as well.
@@mlegrand sorry I should have been more specific. I’m actually thinking of a paddle board race where you have to complete as many laps in a given time. Thanks for your response!
This review really helped me solidify my purchase. I had an Apple Watch SE that shattered. I wanted an upgrade but battery life and durability were huge for me. It was this or fenix 7. I think I made the right choice in saving almost 300 bucks. I realized that I also prefer no touchscreen. Especially when swimming and not having accidental inputs.
You mentioned the GPS tracking abilities of the watch but that it doesn't provide on device mapping, so if the watch is paired with a phone are there any apps that can sync with the watch to provide offline mapping capabilities? How would that work?
So GPS tracks are typically viewed on a map after a run/bike/hike on a different device. They are often overlayed onto a map. I guess if you had your phone for the mapping side of things you'd probably be using the phone completely for mapping, routing, and navigating.
@@mlegrand I appreciate your response, maybe you can help steer me in the right direction if I better state my intended use. I want to be able to go on 1-2 day hiking / backpacking trips, have my watch track my location, and be able to see my location (where I started, where I've been, where I am, where I'm going, etc.) on a map, ideally through an app on my phone. I understand that the more expensive watches like the Fenix have mapping built in, but I can't imagine the experience of viewing a map on a 2 inch diameter screen to be anywhere close to as good as viewing a map on a 6 inch screen phone or even a 10 inch tablet. As a bonus, it would also be nice to use the gps of the watch for navigating to the starting point of the hike, i.e. from town to the dirt road where I no longer have cell signal, to the trailhead, etc. Seems to me like a pretty basic and common use case, but I haven't seen any videos about how that is accomplished within the Garmin ecosystem. Any additional insights would be greatly appreciated!
A new Garmin 2x solar costs 259 dollars and a new Garmin 2 solar costs 303 dollars in my country. I feel like garmin 2x is gonna be too big for me, but its annoying that I have to spend 50 more dollars on a older watch. What do you think?
If you lived in the greater Portland OR area, I'd be happy to let you try on mine. I think it's super hard to find retailers that carry these brand new watches. I went by my local running store and they had watches from 2 years ago out on display. 😬
They’re different. Do you think you’d prefer a brighter screen or the longer battery life of the Instinct? There’s also rumors of an Instinct 3 although I don’t have any idea about dates.

@@mlegrand I know how much work creating the content is, so the gratitude is all on me. I just found out they are on sale in the UK until 22nd £289 for the 2x and £330 for the 2x tactical. So have picked up the Tactical and gifting the 2x to my dad as a retirememt present.

Luke, no! Somebody has to be your friend and tell you: this watch is not ideally placed to wear with dress clothes. It mostly will look silly there. You can try, but it’s a tough sell. Hear me out. A leather 26mm band (maybe with the dial turned inside of wrist, military style), opposite some leather and/or beaded bracelet stacked on the opposite wrist. It’s a reach, but it could work!
Correct. That was a mistake. (I make lots of them) 1.1 inch screen with a resolution of only 176 x 176 pixels is 226 pixels per inch. Compared to something like the 965 which is 454x454 on a 1.4 inch screen or 458 pixesls per inch. Thanks for posting this Krzysztof!
I’ve actually never been able to use Garmin Pay because of my bank not being available. I’d really love to test it out at some point. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
This watch is actually best suited for wild hiking because it has a really long battery life. Sacrificing a few details and the touchscreen for a long battery life is well worth it on a hike. And the solar charging is a very useful feature in the strong Australian sun. I've had this watch for 9 months now and have completed two long treks (6 and 9 days) without recharging it. The breadcrumb trail is actually sufficient for hiking, and with its multi-frequency positioning (you can use this feature for up to 140 hours, about 6 days) it always alerts about deviations accurately, especially in the rain when signposts are always hard to find.
I have a question..... and by the way, I really enjoyed your presentation. My question is, as a hiker of longish hikes, 25 to 35km per day, does the GPS tracker and all of the altimeter etc detail still get recorded? On another review the guy mentioned something like that the watch kinda stopped recording the details after 12 miles???
Thanks for this sweet review. I was worried I would sell myself short getting this Watch mostly for running /biking. But like you said those features I would not even need. Getting this one for sure 🎉
I think you'll really like it but let me know. I know it's crazy but the flashlight is the best feature on a watch. I'm out camping with my family and it's coming in handy every night. 👌🏻
Yes! I have to use it a good bit because I coach a large group of runners for track workouts. I typically add it to the quick menu. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
Oooh, that could be its own video. What are Matt’s hot keys? I can’t live without stopwatch, timers, and lock/unlock on demand. Set em up the same way on each new garmin. Imagine my surprise when I tried to do it on the 165. 🤨
Nap recording is a new feature on some Garmin watches. Last I checked it was not on the Instinct 2X but I'm guessing it'd get ported over to this device soon.
@@JohnCamacho - I'm seeing it on the 965 and it should be on the 265 also. Those are the two watches I'm about to post a video on right now. Although naps aren't something I've ever tested on Garmin. But damn, today would be a good day for a nap. 🤞🏻
It's been working well for me. These optical HR sensors can vary depending on skin tone, wrist shape and size and what you're doing but I think it's a solid option for HR tracking. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
I don't try to cover every feature in my reviews but this watch is Garmin Pay compatible. Sadly, my bank is not. I've been unable to test it but that list is always updating so maybe some day soon.
The Instinct 2X Solar doesn't feel too heavy to me. It has a bit more plastic which isn't always preferred but it does tend to make the watch a lot lighter. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
Significantly improved!? TELL ME MORE!!! I love that the price stayed the same. Big ups to Garmin for that. I love that you tell people upfront what you think. I want a kill switch!!!! Transflective...look at you and your fancy words. I love the puck charging thing! You rock for recommending them. All the youtubers talk about the flashlights! Having never lived with one, I guess I don't get it. I'm sad to have never seen "UNLIMITED" on my watch, but I love the battery life. I never remember "When was the last time I charged this?" That's a great metric to measure battery life. WHOA-saw your weather, it looks WARM THERE!! HRV question, what do the two sides of the chart mean. Does the left side mean "You're tired" or is that right side of the chart? I'm not sure I'm phrasing the question correctly... Decision time! I would love to hear what you think....upgrade or do not upgrade from the regular instinct 2 solar? I'll keep my mouth shut and tell you what I'm leaning towards after you tell me what you think! XOXO
HRV - It's looking at the time between beats. It takes a few weeks to get a baseline and then you can look at trends. For example, hard workout might leave you with a lower HRV value indicating your body might need a rest day. Should you upgrade? I think you should max out the value of your current watch. There's always other ways to spend those doll hairs.
@@mlegrand on the HRV, that's really helpful. So the lower the value, the less fresh you are? I'm just trying to ensure i understand. And HUZZAH! We see eye to eye on the upgrade. Most excellent. You're a rockstar Matt!
I haven’t seen any fading as of yet but the fear is totally understandable. I’m guessing some activities and people will be harder on these watches than others. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
