You mastered the art of watches reviews, to the point that i don't need to watch other videos, in 10 minutes i get all the informations i need to know. You also give a feeling of honesty.
I’m pretty sure they used to give you 20% off new models when you traded in old ones, if I recall correctly did this when upgrade from Forerunner 235 for Fenix 5.
A friend has visited me recently wearing the marq 2 athlete, we tracked some hikes and workouts together. I cought the bug... while I won't get the marq due to the ridiculous price I have my sights locked on the Epix 2. Considering how many similarities there are! Loved playing with the marq and I think I'll be *very* happy with the Epix
@@DesFit This is what I like to hear, I watched your vid with DCRainMan on the 2022 review of watches, and I still wonder if I'm mad thinking about the Epix 2, when the Fenix 7 series does all the same as the Epix 2, for less.. but that amoled has me hooked! Marq is outside my price range atm, but I will be a few months before getting the Epix 2.. as I am looking for a bit more colour to my current Instinct Tactical Solar (1st edition). Thank you for this vid, as I was wondering what the differences were between this and the Epix 2, I am looking forward to consuming all of your other vids on the Epic 2 :)
I’m looking at the Marq 2 Athlete Carbon. Does your first generation Marq Athlete still run fine?. I’ve never had a smart watch before. I’m a little bit put off by the price tag only due to all the comments about the watches going crap after so many years. As someone who is only really interested in recording my steps, maybe a bit of biking in the park and just owning a nice looking watch to tell the time. Would this be a watch I could use for say 10 years?
@@d_star1278 mine is flawless condition I use it everyday, the build is awesome 👍🏻 I was a Fenix user starting with the Fenix 3, I now use the first generation Marq athlete as my main exercises, daily multi-tool watch, and have just bought the second generation Marq 2 Captain, someone was selling it half price and only 7 days old
The OLED screen on the second generation Marqs has its drawbacks, in direct sunlight, something that the older screen tech doesn't, but in general use the screen is lovely on the Marq 2
Thanks for the great review!! I owned the First Gen Marq Aviator and it was the most accomplished Garmin I ever had (I bought it used and the price was more than fair). I only sold it because I knew that a Next Generation Marq was about to come up and prices would only go downhill. The other reason was that Garmin is still struggling to provide a real Physio True Up which would update any of your Garmin with all your data stored in GC. Apparently they are finally trying to solve the issue. I will be on the look out for a used Marq by the end of the year when prices start to drop significantly.
The only MARQ I'd consider is the Aviator due to the whole metal body (titanium). However, being a smart watch, it will become sluggish and outdated after a few years. I think for that reason I'd prefer an actual luxury brand such as Omega, or even other brands providing all metallic bodies. Might even be worth to save up for a Rolex instead of buying a MARQ then a MARQ gen 2 and so on. Specially considering that my 945 got scratched already during a bike ride crash.
I do understand your thoughts for your post. As a luxury watch(s) owner myself I can honestly say each one is completely useless for cycling, running, swimming, kayaking etc. My Apple Watch Ultra is perfect for the exercise I participate in, this Garmin MARQ Gen2 will also be perfect for all type of sport. My opinion is the Garmin MARQ is much better looking than the my Apple Watch Ultra, in saying this I wouldn’t call the MARQ a luxury watch but it certainly is a great looking watch, I would prefer this MARQ instead of my Apple Ultra. You are correct in saying this MARQ will become sluggish and outdated in a short time, that’s why I struggle to pay the high price. I still want one :)
Excellent review! As per quantified scientist tests, Garmin’s OHR is trash but you showed the results very promising. Hence, I use Garmin HRM pro plus! 😀
Thanks for all the videos you have done on the marq gen 2. Question, do you think the absence of a ceramic bezel on the athlete is an issue? I'm on the fence between that and the golfer which has a ceramic bezel.
I’ve had other Garmin watches with the DLC (diamond-like coating) bezel and they will eventually scratch. You can optimistically call it “a nice patina” once enough scratches are there. For me, I hate high-contrast scratches and would instead get the Explorer/Adventurer (titanium bezel), or a ceramic bezel variant.
Great video Des. Did you notice any difference between gesture mode in activities between Epix and Marq? I’ve found gestures on my Epix when running hit and miss. Sometimes it works, sometimes not.
I wish they made this watch band for the Fenix series. My Instinct is so much more comfortable because of the band holds the watch on my wrist so much better.
I bought one but returned it. It’s beautiful but the SW has some glitches. The active calories data field on the signature watch face can only be green even though every other data field can be any color. Garmin support acknowledged this is so but says it’s a feature, not a problem. So if you want that data, you must have green on that data field? Also, the “performance page” doesn’t show the correct info for VO2Max and recovery time. The markers are off. I’ll keep my Epix for now.
Excelled video as always. May I ask whether I can put all the functions of the Athlete into the Aviation or Captain? I kind of like blue color more. Thank you 😊
The Athlete is the base for all the other models where all the other models will have the Athlete features but not the other way around, for instance the Athlete doesn't have the aviation functions of the Aviator, the boat functions of the Captain, etc... Hope that helps.
I bought into the Garmin ecosystem based on all the reviews. What they don't tell you is how bad Garmin Connect is if you actually want to slice and dice your data. Over the 6 months I have purchased my Garmin products it has gone from being difficult to get all the data to impossible without using external apps. A good example is VO2 max. It will only display the integer i.e. 47 48 but not the decimal data which makes tracking possible. Before you could go into Garmin Connect and just export your VO2 data (and others) and get much more detailed numbers/info. Now after an update, all these features are gone. I will be looking into other ecosystems and looking to sell my Garmin equipment.
If you look into the training status page and then the vo2 max number it will show a graph which you can then determine the decimal point from that , or close enough to it
Don’t think manny people struggle with that choice. Both watches have their own distinct audience and use cases, price is not a deciding factor in the comparison. That might be more the case comparing a Fenix with the ultra. Marq is about about finish, looks and personality. It’s like saying a Ferrari is not worth double the price tag of a tesla, that doesn’t make sense either. .
@@krisvanaut I struggle with that choice! I'm Garmin fan, previously had Fenix 6X, now wearing Tactix 7 Pro. Would be definitely considering Marq 2, but it's simply overpriced. And even if Garmin is so great brand of sport watches, it's not brand of luxury watches.
I would LOVE to get the Marq 2 Captain, simply for the looks of the watch. I just wish the software wasn't so different between the models. I would rather have the athlete in terms of software.
I have a Marq captain. It’s fantastic watch. . Not sure if it misses anything from the athlete, Expt the athlete’s watch face. Is there anything specific you want validation for?
@@krisvanaut The training load watch face is something I would really like to have. I just think for the price of these watches they should include all the "unique" software from each series of the Marq. I currently have an Enduro 2, but would really like to be able to wear a Captain for daily use and the enduro for activities. I'm just not sure all my metrics will sync between the two switching back and forth at once least daily. i.e. training load, sleep data, stress, training readiness.
Hi. It is a great video but I have a question. I got this watch today and I can’t find how to keep screen open all the time. When I don’t do anything, the screen closes and it opens again when I move my arm. How can I keep my screen open all the time to see the time always ?? There is a menu for activity, general use and sleep mode but no menu to keep it open for all the time even when I don’t use it
It's a good looking watch , but it's so similar to the Epix which is $900 while the Marq is $1,900. Just don't see enough to justify that price increase.
You'd only need the other versions if you wanted the specialized features of each of them like the aviation features on the Aviator, Sailing/Boating with the Captain, etc... All of them have the same sports features as the Athlete.
Epix Pro is the most current watch with a flashlight and newer HR sensor than the Marq 2, but the Marq 2 uses more premium materials like grade 5 titanium
Hi, please could you tell me what the two green markers (with double lines) represent on the clock face. They are not fixed - but move from time to time and hence I can only assume they represent data. I have scoured all Garmin documentation - yet can’t establish what they are. Many thanks.
It’s my understanding that the green mark aligns with the number marker on the bezel to indicate your VO2 Max. You know, so you can humble brag while showing someone the current time. There are at least tens of people who would notice and be impressed. Garmin was trying to do something related to athletics to make the bezel marks relevant. I guess they succeeded?
Does anyone know its sensors work through tattoo's? Have one around my wrists and sick of having to return or pass on fitness training watches due to this.
I have the garmin venu, so its older but my left arm has. A tattoo right where it would normally go and i have had issues with my hr data. Some days it was fine other days it wouldnt read anything. My tattoo has some dark linework but light colors so it should be okay. The newer senors could be better, i ended up just wearing on my right hand.
