Garmin OTR 1010 unboxing and initial use. Plus first attempt at using the Garmin ELD device with the Garmin OTR 1010 GPS. Load updates, Rusty back in truck!
Damn , trucking come along way . I started in in 1968 and u used maps from gas stations and a log book, it's amazing that we even got the loads delivered.
Your new "toy" looks really nice. We're always amazed at the amount of information and detail these gadgets can give you. We have a small one with about a 5 inch screen that we always take with us when we travel. It's okay but if we were able to do more traveling we would get a newer model. We still prefer the Garmin to the built in one in our car. Nice to see Rusty back in the truck. He's looking good so he was well taken care at the house. Safe travels and good loads!
Thanks for the review. I’d been interested in this gps for quite so time now.I finally pulled the trigger today and purchased from the pilot in my hometown. On sale for $799. Upon taking pieces out of the box,I noticed how robust the suction cup mount is! I’ve been using RM for the last three years and it’s malfunctioning when it comes to charging. Thanks for your video once again and I look forward to using this gps. Safe travels 👍
❤ Hi RUSTY!!! NICE TO SEE YOU! 😍👋 He he, look at him, he needs a haircut already, looking wild RUSTY 😁💋 He missed you, awww 🥰 just like you missed him, now you aren't alone, you both have each other Glad your getting your new electronic stuff worked out. Seems there's always something we have to do in the truck, is endless. Glad to see you again CLUTCH and RUSTY..be safe out there Hugs!! 🥰❤👋
Maybe try calling ahead to your shipper or receiver for additional information. Always ask for the warehouse. The receptionist only knows how to get her car to work.
I have the 710. Has the same features as the 1010, but doesn't have the magnet charging ability. Just comes with a suction cup mount. And the display options are a little different, I can only display 1 column of data. But still have the birdseye view and the satellite imaging of destination.
8'6" is standard width. Having it set to 8' might cause issues. Those RAM mounts are great if you have a good spot on the dash and you know you want to have it mounted there as long as you own the truck. You can also buy mounts from the RAM mounts company and customize how and where you mount it. I don't like anything mounted to the winshield so I usually mount them on the dash. The connection to the internet is a great option but anyone with limited data plans need to be careful because it can chew through data pretty fast. I love the sattelite vew addition. As long as it is updated and not 10 years old images it can be VERY useful. I have tried the ELogs on the OTR 800 just to see how well they worksd, but found them to be a bit clunky and not super accurate, so hope they work better for you.
@@JohnHallgren I can say for sure his overall length is more than 65' but in most cases length restrictions are based on trailer or trailer combined length. So saying the length is 65' or more may cause issues where the gps thinks he can not go on a road he is actually legal on.
Forgot to mention that you can use Google maps pin point exactly where the truck entrance and then send it to your GPS I love that feature for the Garmin OTR 10000
I sold my 1000 after all the problems with it garmin finally got mine fixed. I’m not sure you remember we both kinda had some of the same issues. Hell it made it through a 75 mph t one from a drunk driver, however my new 2023 Pete and me were not so lucky. The Pete was a complete loss and I got my neck and back messed up from the crash
Would you have an update on this new Garmin Truckers GPS Yet? If so, could you please provide a Link to the Video Update? Frankly, restricted roads still seems to be a problem with Garmin. I'm still on the DEZL-760LMT Model. Twice in the past 2 weeks, it's tried to take me down Roads That Are Restricted For Trucks. I really hate that. It's also my understanding that the Newer Model Rand McNally's are very good in Avoiding Such Restricted Roads. Have you heard the same? Your opinion and feedback is very much appreciated. Thanks, Clutch!!
Just managed to get the LGV1010 - UK version of the OTR1010 as was using the LGV700 but wanted a bigger screen - had the 580 before that one. The 10" is much better and the 'birds eye' is a game changer. I do a lot with builders merchants and an issue is that the "Goods in" is often 'around the back', normally on a different street which usually has either a weight limit or a low bridge at one end or the other - or both! Really quick to save the point by touching the screen and saving for the next time. I sync the 'live travel' through the app which has helped me with road closures....and travel delays. I just need to figure out how I can connect a Bluetooth speaker to it to get a louder sound as well as my mobile as it doesn't seem to do both.
I STILL have and use the original Dezl, SIMPLY because of the 4 option display dashboard with the faux wood display. I have yet to see why they dropped this feature and why they back pedaled it, but I don't care they need to include on every edition & model, everytime.
Thank you for the video! Very informative. Are you still using the garmin eld? If so how do you like it? My company is going to put ends in the trucks and we are doing some research. Was hoping for some input. Thank you drive safe.
You put 80,000 as the max weight. While that would make a lot of sense considering that's what our rigs top out at, I find that if I set my GPS to 60,000lbs it will route me around the 57,650lb roads in places like Mississippi, yet WON'T make me drive 50 miles out of route to avoid a bridge with a 35T weight limit that is obviously perfectly safe at 40 tons.
I’ve been using Garmin ELD for the last 4 plus years, going on 5 years. Had issues 2x in the past, once when the DOT/FMCSA changed split break rules, the software update caused problems with BT connectivity. Second was when they were experiencing a ransomware attack. But for the most part, it’s meh…
I picked this up for $900 on Best Buy i like it so far. Just wished it told you your exact location(ie: town, county, state) like the randmcnally. Also could you please show a rookie how to calibrate a CB apparently I don’t sound quite right and I’m not receiving that well either. Im in a 2020 Peterbilt 579.
If you have a cobra, the instructions tell you how to set your swr using the CB (at least my 29 classic did). If you want more range, you are going to have to go to a CB shop.
Setting the SWR is key. Many newer models have a metered display as you physically adjust your antenna. If you’re new to it, best to go to a trusted CB shop
Hi D, thats too technical for an old fart like me LoL. I do have a Dashcam in my Dodge Journey but it is simple and uncomplicated, LoL. Regards, Bob NZ.
I-80 seems to be closed more than it’s open nowadays. I remember the days when we used common sense and measured the current conditions ourselves. And whether or not to continue. Freedom is too scary now. 🤪
Clutch, did you ever figure out how to change the Garmin HOS clock from a 7/60 to an 8/70 hour clock. Whenever I get close to the 60 hour limit my OTR flashes a warning and suggests taking a break to reset my clock and I've never been able to figure out how to change the settings without investing in the Garmin ELD and that's just an expense I don't need
I currently use my Garmin GPS (800) to do hands-free phone. The sound quality is bad when there's road noise. I've been thinking about purchasing a Garmin headset. Do you ever use a headset? I hear that it integrates with the GPS units.
@@ClutchTrucker It seems as though you will enjoy the integration of your new ELD with your GPS. Would it be advantageous to have a headset that also integrated with your GPS?
I’ve got 120,000+ points at pilot and it’s currently $100 off from $899 to $799 and there a $50 off as of this week. So I’m gonna pull the trigger and get this. It looks pretty good. New driver right now working for FedEx but things are Getting worrisome and I don’t know what’s gonna happen so I’d rather have this as a just incase I have to get another driving job somewhere else. Thanks for this video
Doesn't use any hotspot except for the updates. Connects to your phone via Bluetooth for normal operations. I'm averaging about 17mb per day of my mobile data.
How is the Garmin working. I am needing something for my motorhome. I was looking at the 710 that comes with a dash cam. Will this do or would having a separate dash cam be better. Hi from Nebraska and yss it did snow a bunch.
Yeah, I don’t think it’s worth the upgrade from the 1000. What I really wish is that Garmin would switch from putting out hardware to an app with a yearly fee. That way I can have Drivewyze, pilot, TA, or any other app I need all on one screen and one device.
I don’t want all that stuff running on my GPS, gps should be just that, a gps… have you never experienced your gps device freezing up and needing a reboot while your driving down a busy area. Disable everything except your map application on your gps device to avoid your gps from locking up. Turn everything off except your ELD app so your ELD function is not affected… last thing you need is gap in your data and your going through that dot inspection. Run all your ancillary applications on your personal phone/device that has nothing to do with elog or gps/map. Trust me, you don’t want your map to freeze up while your in the middle of NYC or any other busy places
@@ClutchTrucker since asking that question, I bought the 710. So far I’m very disappointed in the voice interface and saving video. At this point I’m ready to buy a standalone dashcam, because it only saves from the point of me telling it to record for about 30 seconds. My 785 would record the previous 1:30 and foward 1:30 for a total of 3 minutes.
and Samantha will never work on 1010 and they never fixed it on the 1000. I will never buy another one.. I have went back to my 770 diesel. it works a lot better
Garmin je najveće smeće u celom Sunčevom Sistemu. Bačen novac, gubljenje vremena i nerava. Ja odem pola puta a on još traži Satelit . To govno lepo upakovano košta 450 do 650 eu. Stanje je odličan izraz za govno.
Had the 800 for 3 years now biggest piece of garbage ever owned don't know why u would buy the new one doesn't recognize half of the truck stops even the major ones,in Detroit right now trying to route me thru every neighborhood it can when u can get off 10 and make a left try to edit the routing it locks up, talked to other drivers they hate it to does the same thing wouldn't have the new one if they gave it to me.
📅📅📅 I know your new GPS has a calendar function but a new (old school) paper mini 2️⃣0️⃣2️⃣3️⃣Dunk calendar was mailed to you recently Clutch. This year we made them ourselves, made them a bit bigger, and made 2,000+ of them. Enjoy! ~Dunk
