Hey everyone, here's the fix for the "Approach R1" problem some people were seeing. From Matt: I added a line in settings.json to change the bluetoothDeviceName if your launch monitor happened to pair with a name that isnt "Approach R10".
If this does sound like you and it isn't connecting them you might need to change the name in your .JSON file to Approach R1 and this should then connect.
If you weren't seeing any issues with the previous release, there's going to be no benefit in updating to this version.

TROUBLESHOOTING
I have heard from multiple people now that if you are having trouble redownloading everything and extracting the files to the same drive that GS Pro is located on has worked so if you’re having trouble try extracting the files to a different drive. Additionally to this a few people have said they had to allow access through their firewalls! So please check if you have done this.

Thank you Joe and mhollow of course! I just bought gspro (already had an R10) after watching some of your videos. I had no issues at all getting the direct connection from R10 to PC w/GSPro working. It worked perfectly the first time and have been using it almost daily without issues. I'm still new to gspro so I haven't dived into the details yet but so far this is a great way to practice at home. I have a 14x25x9+ room with projector and impact screen.

That's great! I love getting messages like this. The direct connection is sooo much more stable! In fact I have never had a disconnect with it. I think because when it disconnects there in the script it just quickly prompts it to connect again. So if it does disconnect you don't even notice! Amazing bit of software from Matt.

Just did the transition last night from Awesome Golf to GSPro with a Garmin R10. Very easy setup and integration thanks to the awesome guidance and discussion here. Pleased with the change. Running Lite now with built in Intel graphics (HP Elitedesk 800 G4 SFF). Graphics card arrives today to help alleviate stutter even on the driving range.

Just got GS pro a couple of days ago. Had the R10 for a couple of years. Hummed and Hawed about E6 basic subscription because I liked the 5 courses they had but could use some more choices. Then saw a number of your GS Pro videos and decided to make a gaming PC and the E6 portal. Although no regrets with their portal to get to GS Pro, it was frustrating for the dropped signal more than occasionally but was still way better than E6. Now with this direct Bluetooth connection to the PC, absolutely fabulous. Excellent work tipping us off and special thanks to the creator. A real game changer. I also learned about the boost control and realism sliders and I have this puppy humming exactly to suit my distances under my garage sim... Thanks again.

Hi- no problem whatsoever, one it’s paired on the laptop it stays there Only trick I use to make sure R10 connects to GS Pro is to leave the R10 last to connect and switch it on immediately after starting the link/ bridge program

Joe. Your explanations and examples are truly awesome. Just got GS pro a couple of days ago. Have had the R10 for a couple of months and not really trusting it for data yet... seems a bit off / odd - even on the real range. I've subscribed and seen quite a few of your GSPro and R10 videos and decided to get a proper sim setup on a budget'ish 🙂 Got a Lenovo Legion, a monitor (projector a bit later) and GSPro. Now, with the direct Bluetooth connection to the PC, I had it up and running within an hour. Absolutely incredible, and I love what I've seen so far. Carry distances and curves are almost to what I'd expect. You do great work for us novices too. Thank you. 😉

I finally got it working!!! I can't believe how simple the issue was. I thought the API connector that was needed when connecting using E6 still needed to be open even with a direct bluetooth connection to the PC. Having that open made GS Pro API interface want a signal from that, which in turn didn't allow it to accept data from the unit through direct bluetooth connection. After I closed the the API connector it accepted the direct connection of the unit through bluetooth. I'm sure no-one else would assume that the old API connector was still part of the process but if there is someone out there that thinks things are more complicated than they need to be like I do then that's the solution for that particular misunderstanding of the process.

@@Blackcloud319 as long as it's a gaming laptop it should be able to run GS Pro... Even if it's in the lite mode. But do check out the recommended specs on their website then google your GPU vs the recommended one. Also they offer a 7 day refund (minus a restock fee). So worst case you can get most of your money back.

It works flawlessly... He did a great job! I played 18 and did some practice and it seems to be as stable as my GC2 connection! I did have my R10 do a red light hang however I just turned it off and on and the connector picked it back up automatically did a calibration and linked everything up again! No backing out and messing around with re syncing... Easy.

Thanks mate! I really appreciate that. There can still be some random issues that pop up and it can get annoying let us know if you have any issues and hopefully we can get it working. I haven't done a full set up video with the webcam however I did get it working. It was a bit harder and I actually had to contact the dev to get it working. I know that Springbok is working to add putting standalone to his connector which I much prefer it's a lot more intuitive and easy so if and when that happens I'll be doing a video on that. Cheers

It was a nightmare to have a 3rd thing connected to link E6 to GSP and I am Pretty sure this was contributing to add interferences as well, it was just a matter of time for someone to come up with a fix for this . Finally did it and bought GSPro. Thanks for the tutorial! I was scared initially because my PC is in the basement and my sim is in the garage ~60ft away. Found a bluetooth extender that actually worked and everything works great! I mirror my PC screen to my phone and hook my phone to a projector with a USB C to HDMI cable.

Hey Jim yeah it works great!! So you will still need internet connection to initially boot up GS Pro as it checks your licence but after that as long as you have the courses downloaded you will be able to play locally.

Hey Arjun yes absolutely you can see it talking about tilt as it scrolls through. It will automatically do the calibration each time and if you don't want it to you can turn it off in the .JSON file. For me I do the calibration every time. Cheers

Thanks for the video. Hopefully you can help with my issue. I can put the R10 in pairing mode but it’s not discoverable in my bluetooth settings. I removed the Garmin and and disconnected it from my other devices. It’s odd bc I can’t even see the R10 in my phones bluetooth settings, which I used to show before I removed it from everything, but if I connect thru the Garmin app directly it works.

@@JLagGOLF Think I got it! I moved the R10 connect program to my desktop but the settings note pad was in a different folder. I guess those were different drives so I moved both icons to the desktop and it worked. Thanks for the support and for the videos!

Thanks for the fantastic news and another excellent video. How do you decide when you use your R10 or your GC2? Do you need a seperate GS pro licences with your R10 and GC2? I have R10 and GS pro - contemplating getting Ineekor eye mini and wondering whether the current GS pro licence I have will work with it ….

Thanks for the comment mate! So the cool thing about the R10 and the GC2 is that they aren't supported... Hahaha so it's good and bad. But what it means is I can switch between the two with the same licence. I would love the new eye mini but as uneekor is supported I think that it would require a separate licence to then play between the R10 and eye mini. I love using the R10 for the club data... I really miss that using my GC2 and will hopefully eventually get the HMT so then I have club data. When I'm working on my game and swing I use the R10. When I am playing in the events and need putting I use the GC2.

I browsed through your videos, but I didn't see this as a topic. In your opinion is it worth getting a special radar golf ball for more accurate readings or can I just use whatever I'm already using on the course?

Hey Stevo yes you are right I haven't actually done a dedicated RCT video... I should probably do that! So I do recommend using RCT golf balls for accuracy. It makes a massive difference in the spin being calculated vs not calculated. However that being said I don't think using the RCT balls is good all the time. I have found that I get a lot more mis-reads on chip shots while using them. So I generally use them for driver, woods and irons until 9 iron then switch out to regular balls for the wedges and chip shots. It does again depend on the app that I'm using and also if I really need to spin a wedge shot. If I need to rip one back I'll use an RCT ball. I think the RCT integration is fantastic but it still needs a bit of work from Garmin. Hope that helps Cheers mate

Thanks mate! Yes I turn in R10 and let it connect to the computer or pair.. then launch GS Pro once the open API connector is up then I launch the new direct connect connector ⛳ then it will all pair up and your light on the R10 will turn green and you're good to go.

Thanks for the assist on this Joe. I rewatched the video and disconnected my phone from the Garmin and it works. Occassionally the downloaded Bluetooth application force closes but I just fire it back up and keep moving. My phone question now is do you still need to calibrate the device occassionally?

Ok great I love hearing that! No so the application you launch will run through the calibration automatically.. you can see it in the script when it first launches so no need to calibrate. If you don't want it to calibrate you can turn it off in the .JSON file but I always wanted mine to calibrate so just leave it as is. Cheers

I believe the calibration is all done within the new connector on your laptop. Just looking at the script that it runs it looks like it talks about calibration and tilt. I will get a more accurate answer from Matt for you!

Hey mate yes it's all controlled through the computer and honestly it's easier you just turn the Garmin on and it connects and does a calibration for you once you open up the connector. If you are going to be running GS Pro you will control it through the computer anyway so really it's not different. You just have a more stable connection now which is great 👍

Hi Joe, love the videos keep them coming. I bought a gaming laptop to use GS Pro with my garmin. I was able to add the garmin to Bluetooth on the pc but it says disconnected on Bluetooth . Might be a dumb question but Do I need the GS pro software and this connector file for the Bluetooth connection to synch? I wanted to make sure I could add the garmin to Bluetooth on my laptop before buying the gs pro software. Many thanks

Hey mate so yes! It should say paired I think once you have the Garmin on your computer but it won't actually go to connected until you have everything open and running. Thanks Joe. Bought the gs pro software and it synched via Bluetooth seamlessly!! My only issue now is my benq lw600 projector with a max resolution 1:20,000 cannot keep up with the nividia 4060 graphics card. GS Pro looks ok but not great on the sim screen compared to the laptop. Will have to save up for a new projector if I want that immersive experience. Thanks again

Thanks to your previous instruction, I was able to connect my R10 to my laptop via the r10 connect downloaded software earlier this week. I was elated. Today, For the first time, i attempted to connect my laptop to my benq projector via an hdmi cable for some gspro play. Problems I had: (1.) When I connected the hdmi to my laptop, laptop display turne off. Only able to view the gspro on hitting screen. Tried connecting laptop to a small tv, and voila, both screens are mirrored. No idea what benq connection problem is. (2.) Using only one screen, I was able to open up a golf course for play. Hit first shot. No garmin data at all. Laptop shows Garmin is connected. Is there any message on gspro that indicates garmin is ready or "awake?" E6 connect was good about letting me know this. Any help would be most appreciated.

Hey Rudy sorry for the late reply so it sounds like the settings for your BenQ projector needs to be adjusted. So once it's plugged in if you go to your display settings on your PC and make sure you have mirrored display selected then your laptop screen will stay on as well. Plugging it in shouldn't have any effect on connection it should be the exact same process. You have the green bars on top of the open API connector and also the green bar at the bottom right of the GS Pro screen that will indicate when the LM is connected. Hope that helps! If not definitely jump on the Facebook group as you will be able to upload pictures to show what you're taking about and then others will also be able to help out a lot quicker than me in the RU-vid comments. I understand also if you don't have a Facebook as not everyone does. Cheers

Thanks Joe for posting this video! So happy to hear that we can remove middleware and go straight to GSPro. Challenge I am having is that I can’t get the r10 to show up when searching in Bluetooth. However I can see it on my iPad and reconnect it. I also can connect my phone to my computer. So Bluetooth works. Any clue on my challenge of the r10 not showing up on computer Bluetooth? Thanks

@@stephenthompson-in6ry Hey mate the only suggestions I can make would be make sure your Bluetooth drivers are up to date. After that try move the unit (R10) closer to your computer. Computers are notorious for having bad Bluetooth receivers. Another one someone said was when he was on his 2.4ghz network on his laptop the Bluetooth wouldn't work as soon as he went to 5hgz it connected straight away (coincidence maybe). Once you've connected once you don't need to connect every time just turn R10 on, open GS Pro and wait for the API connector to pop up then open the MHOLOW connector. The last thing you could try and do it to buy a separate bluetooth dongle and try to use that. They are relatively cheap around $30. Hope that helps mate.

Hey Tom the new connector will automatically send the calibration command when it connects and runs through the script. You can turn this off in the JSON file if you don't want it to calibrate every time.

Thanks for this super helpful video. I was instrumental in getting my sim set up. I've been using this GSPro R10 Connector for the last 30 days and it's been fantastic! But suddenly yesterday it stopped connecting. My R10 will still connect to my iphone so I know it's working. But when I turn the bluetooth off on my phone and launch the GSP-R10 Connector so that it will connect direct to PC, it launches the connector window but doesn't connect to the R10 and the R10 just blinks blue likes it's looking for a connection. The only thing I can think that changed was there was a Windows update that ran when I shut the computer down a couple nights ago. Maybe that messed something up? Grateful for any help. And thanks for all your great and helpful videos!

Hey mate that's strange! I haven't connected mine up for a while now as I sent it to one of my mates to try... Quite possibly an update. The other thing is have you launched the connector and GS Pro? My R10 will blink until GS Pro is open then once it's open I launch the connector and then it all syncs up and goes green.

I was working great and I was playing everyday without any connection issues. I'm also wondering if maybe the Windows update did something firewall related. I'll try revisiting those firewall settings, too. Super frustrating as I was wanting to play Georgia Golf Club during Masters Week! ;)

Good evening and happy Friday! Purchasing gspro this evening, I've watched multiple videos and scanned the groups for info. I'm going to cast or hdmi my pc to a TV until I decide on a projector/enclosure set up. Using an r10 and hopefully the bluetooth connector but wasn't sure if I should do that or run this commector? Hey mate exciting times! The R10 with a tv is a good combination as you don't have to worry about projector interference so it's one less thing to plan for. Yeah computer bluetooth receivers are notoriously bad. The other option is using a Bluetooth dongle on a long USB cable. But if not then yes the Travis Lang connector would be your go.

Hey Jason I’m back home in a few days and need to do some testing but I suspect that the .JSON file data (environment settings such as altitude) gets overridden by the GS Pro settings so that people cant cheat during the tournaments.

Just purchased R10 and GSpro subscription, connects to R10 fine but after launching GSPro and start a round 1st tee shot never registers. i check the log and it shows R10 connected but GSpro just shows connecting. played one full round after closing and relaunching everything agian. Second round i played the next day same thing started recognizing shots after a couple relaunches then disconnected on 18th tee box. any suggestions

Hey mate It sounds like the connection has been dropped from the mholow connector to the open API connector from GS Pro. If you go into settings you should be able to relaunch the API connect. It should say relaunch GS Pro connector. That might help to establish the connection again so you don't have to relaunch everything.

Hey mate, once you've connected, check your Bluetooth settings on your laptop and make sure the name hasn't changed to approach R1. Some people find that after they connect using the connector the name changes. This is the case, then open the JSON file and amend the name in there from approach R10 to approach R1 and then your device will stay connected

Hi Joe, how can we integrate putting through this file? When the putting is put "TRUE" in the settings file, the error message suggests ball_tracking path is unavailable. I tried downloading the path from somewhere but the executable file doesnot run so I get the error "Cannot open the ball_tracking file". Please advise!

Hey sorry for the late reply so the putting isn't something I'm super familiar with as I don't really use that function. I do have a video showing how it works and comparing it to my EX Putt. Your best resource here would be the discord chat in the R10 forum. There are a lot of people who use the putting webcam that would be able to help out. Followed all instructions, connection established as expected, "connected" and green line showing in the API but the R10 will not leave standby mode (flashing white light). Hey Daniel that's interesting so you have the connector open and see the terminal scrolling through?? It should talk about tilt where it's going through its calibration and then finish and you should see a flashing green light. If this is happening and you see no issues in the scrips that is running in the window that pops up when you open the MHOLOW connector then I'd definitely let him know by reporting the issue on the GitHub page. He is very quick to respond and help out. Cheers

Hey mate no you don't need the old connector this new one is all you need along with GS Pro.. GS Pro will also have its own connector called the open API that will pop up when you launch GS Pro. So MHOLOWs connector is what feeds the data into GS Pros open API connector and that then feeds it into the game. Hope that helps Cheers

Hey Amy yeah I can help in the description there are a few troubleshooting tips have you tried those? The most common one is that when you launch the new MattH connector the name of the Garmin changes in your laptop Bluetooth settings from approach R10 to approach R1 if this is the case you need to update the name within the .JSON file to say Approach R1

When direct connected to pc (btw, seems to work great!) How does it know how far back the R10 is from the ball? Does that matter anymore? Using the 3rd device e6/garmin app you still had to set the distance. Now that isn’t necessary?

I believe you can set that distance in the actual .JSON file however this isn't really necessary as it will only affect the AOA data. It won't change anything with the ball data which is what GS Pro uses. Cheers

Mate, I got my gaming laptop and installed GS Pro, API Connection and got the test shot working no problem. I also connected the R10 to they laptop via bluetooth and installed GSP-R10 connect which looks like it found the R10 as its flashing the green light. Despite this the API connect can't connect to the R10 and I still have a yellow light inside the API R10 connection window. You mentioned that it could be because of firewall setting and the laptop did come with Norton software pre-installed. I thought it might also be because I never hooked up the R10 using E6 connect as a bridge so haven't input any IP or port addresses in anywhere. Do you know if you still have to do the connection setting going through E6 connect before the direct connection will work? I imagine they shouldn't be related but I have seen stranger things. So I tried to hook it up once using e6 connect but my E6 connect in golf simulators didn't have a settings button in the top right corner so I hit a dead end straight away. Any thoughts would be appreciated

Hey John if it doesn't have a settings icon then you must be using an apple product which is no problem you just have to click next and then it will prompt for port and IP in the next step. Apple is a little bit different than android but if you keep going through it will ask for port and IP. I don't think you will need to do this step however because it should automatically find your port and IP. If you open the .JSON file it should be somewhere near the top of that.

@@JLagGOLF Looking at it again, it looks to me that the problem might be to do with R10-E6 server . In GSP-R10 Connect, the first thing that comes up is: R10-E6//Server starting at IP: 192.168..174.144 Port 2483... That is the correct IP and Port that is shown in R10 Connect but the R10 Connect indicator at the top right of the window still says connecting with a yellow light. I wonder if there should be a second line in GSP-R10 Connect that indicates that the server connection has actually started. Do you get just the one line at the top that says server starting or do you have an additional line for R10-E6 that indicates the server has actually started. Your help is appreciated!

This worked for me for a few minutes and was awesome! Now my R10 is flashing blue. I've disconnected and reconnected multiple times and it flashes white for 2 seconds and goes back to flashing blue. Any advice?

Hey mate it sounds like the issue is the actual Bluetooth connection from your computer to your R10. Maybe try moving your computer closer to your R10 just as a test. Additionally, if it's dropping connection you might have to get a third party Bluetooth dongle just to get a bit better. Signal strength from your computer to your R10. Another thing to check Is that you have disconnected your R10 from your phone or the previous device it was connected to? It might be trying to connect back with that other device and causing issues.

hi joe, ive set up as you said with gspro and garmin r10 but each time i set up i have a bluetooth conection between the r10 and laptop and the github conection along with the gspro . it some times takes half an hour to get all running together and ill get halfway through a game and my garmin no longer responds even though i have the green light. seems that when im setting up i get the green light at bottom right but as soon as i start to use gspro this light goes red. any ideas please, thanks mark

Hey mate so I always open them in a specific order which is 1) turn on R10 (it should automatically connect to PC if you haven't got Bluetooth on your phone or other devices that were previously connected) 2) computer on (if not already) 3) open GS Pro and wait for open API to pop up (it will have a red bar at the top) 4) open the new connector (you will see the red bar on the open API go green) And you should be good to go. Hope that helps mate if not I would definitely go to GitHub and open a ticket there as MHOLOW is very responsive and will be able to sort any issues. Cheers

I have made it to the game and the only thing stopping me from playing it seems is the connect box with all the zeros. I clicked on Simple. API and the 3rd one but no connection. The Simple connect says I have make selection from the drop down window for port I assume but there is nothing there so I have courses, setting for me golfer, everything but when I hit the ball nothing happens. Help?

Hey mate, launch monitor first then game wait for the in-game open API to pop up and then open up the connector. If you find it not registering, go into the settings and hit reset GS Pro connect.

No not with GS Pro. Changing the altitude will have no effect because GS Pro will use the algorithm that the course is at or the one that you manually set in game.

Hey mate so the flashing blue light means it's trying to reconnect to a device. For the direct connect the light will be blue until you open the mholow connector and it pairs with the GS Pro open API. Have you paired the Garmin to your PC?

Hey mate no unfortunately there isn't.. it's a windows connector. I'm not sure the ins and outs of the process to be able to get a MAC version.. I can imagine it would be a whole new program and quite difficult to do. You could always reach out to Springbok and ask but unfortunately I don't think he even had this on his radar. Cheers

I am also having this problem. I have the Legion gaming laptop shown on the cover photo. I am able to get the R10 to show the solid blue light, but the PC is not finding it as a bluetooth device. I also have a nice Dell multimedia laptop that also will not see it. My R10 is paired with my Galaxy Fold 4 with no issues and works well with it. A bit frustrating. I have tried rebooting, turning the Garmin off/on multiple times. No luck thus far

Hey Joe, trying to modify temp to see if I can fix yardage issue with r10 (30yards off with 3,4i and driver, 10-12 with irons and 10 with wedges) but when I try to save nothing happens? From what I tested if I modified the environmental setting in the .json file it didn't have any effect in the GS Pro world and that I think is because GS Pro disregards the data and uses its own environmental settings. So if you want to adjust the settings you might need to do it within GS Pro but I'd love to see how you went.

Did the original downloads from prior connections interfere with this way? Meaning did you delete the other files ?

Hmm, got everything installed and the R10 paired to my PC, but my r10 is flashing blue lights and won't register any shots. I clicked forget this device on my ipad I was using before I tried to connect it to my PC. Any ideas as to why it won't stay paired?

Joe, I set it up and from what I can see both the GS Pro & patch have been updated and restarted at least 5 times. Unfortunately, on a few occasions my system will hit for me, or even chip for me closing the hole and not letting me mulligan. Only happens when I'm playing online with a friend. Is there a fix for this, or has this happened to anyone else? Thank you in advance, Chris

Hey Chris ok that is definitely a new one I haven't heard of that happening. Do you have anything that could cause interference in your room? Like a projector or fridge? And when you are getting these "ghost" shots are you doing a practice swing or moving in front of the R10? When I used to get ghost shots it was because I was getting projector interference. I have a few videos showing that.

Hey @joe lagowski golf I have everything connected but it does state approach r1 on the connected screen of the bluetooth connections. i also have downloaded the latest version that nthey fixed that issue but it still doesnt connect. Im wondering what i should do. i also clicked on the setting of the connector and the file does state garmin r 10. but i know the the issue of r1 because it shows that on the computers bluetooth settings

Hey Alan definitely check the description as there are a few troubleshooting tips in there. Make sure everything is up to date including bluetooth drivers. Does the R10 say paired in the Bluetooth settings on your PC?

The calibration takes place every time you open the new connector it automatically does the calibration. You can also edit the .JSON file if you don't want the calibration to take place.

Have a question for you Joe ! I just bought the Garmin r10 and its on its way. However i would love to connect it to my pc so it can project it to the projector! can you help me understand how to connect to pc because my pc its not Bluetooth? or do i hook it straight to projector ? again not Bluetooth! do i need labtop to connect everything? or do i need to buy a adapter or something for pc so garmin can talk to each. Sorry for the ignorance any help would be appreciated.

Hey Edwin no problem at all mate. So if you're connecting your Garmin up to GS Pro then your Garmin will connect to your PC or laptop using Bluetooth. You have to connect your R10 with Bluetooth to your PC. If your PC doesn't have a Bluetooth receiver then that's fine you can purchase an external one that plugs in via USB. Your laptop or PC will have an HDMI port in it like a tv.. You use an HDMI cable and run it from your laptop to your projector to get the image on to your screen. If I set the altitude set to 1000 in the settings notepad file and gspro has it set to 0 by default, will the 1,000 override gspro’s settings? Or should I set them both to 1,000, or will that double up the altitude to 2,000?

Hey mate so from Matt he is currently investigating it now as he is not sure that the R10 uses that data. When I get back I will do some testing myself which will be setting it at 0 and going to the range and getting carry numbers and then setting it at 10,000ft and doing the same thing and then comparing the numbers. It might be the case that GS Pro doesn't take those numbers set in the .JSON file just like it didn't take anything when you changed them in your phone with the other connector. Cheers

Hey mate unfortunately this wouldn't work with the MLM2PRO.. I know there are guys trying to get it working but unfortunately Rapsodo locked down the data quite well. Hopefully in the future a 3rd party connector can link them 🤞🤞🤞🤞
